Dose-response-defined physiological framework enables comparative analysis of transcriptional response dynamics across multiple herbicides in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Herbicides elicit diverse physiological responses in plants largely due to distinct modes of action of individual compounds. However, it remains unclear how plants differentially respond to herbicides with distinct modes of action when applied at herbicide-specific treatment levels corresponding to comparable degrees of growth inhibition. In this study, we integrated physiological and transcriptomic analyses to characterize the responses of Arabidopsis thaliana exposed to seven herbicides (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, acifluorfen, atrazine, glyphosate, imazethapyr, mesotrione, and paraquat)

Association Between Vitamin D Status, Metabolic Syndrome, and Menopausal Type: A Comparative Observational Study in Women with Early and Physiological Menopause.

Background: The adverse cardiometabolic outcomes that have been associated with early menopause include obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. Other studies have also linked metabolic dysfunction with vitamin D deficiency. However, the independent association of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] concentrations with metabolic syndrome and type of menopause is unclear. Thus, the present study was designed to assess the association between vitamin D status and metabolic syndrome in women with early menopause compared with those with natural menopause. Methods: A total of 301 postm

The Impact of Standard Care Versus Intrinsic Relaxation at Home on Physiological Parameters in Patients with Fibromyalgia: A Comparative Cohort Study from Romania.

Background and Objectives: Fibromyalgia (FM), through the presence of widespread chronic pain, stiffens the musculoskeletal system and causes sleep disturbances and fatigue. Through this study, we aimed to compare the effectiveness of two different recovery interventions for improving sleep quality: a standard, multidisciplinary intervention in a recovery hospital versus a therapy focused on intrinsic relaxation at home. Materials and Methods: This study included 60 adult patients who participated voluntarily and were diagnosed with FM by a rheumatologist, randomly divided into two groups. Dur

Comparative Physiological and Transcriptomic Analyses Reveal Mechanisms of Exogenous Spermidine-Induced Tolerance to Low-Iron Stress in Solanum lycopersicum L.

Iron (Fe) deficiency in plants is a major problem in agriculture. Therefore, we investigated both the physiological features and molecular mechanisms of plants' response to low-Fe (LF) stress along with the mitigation of LF with exogenous spermidine (Spd) in tomato plants. The results showed that exogenous Spd foliar application relieved the suppressing effect of LF stress on tomato plants by regulating the photosynthetic efficiency, chlorophyll metabolism, antioxidant levels, organic acid secretion, polyamine metabolism and osmoregulatory systems. Analysis of transcriptomic sequencing results

Gastroesophageal reflux-related physiologic changes after sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: a prospective comparative study.

BACKGROUND: The development of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a major concern as it affects the quality of life of the patients and potentially exposes them to the complications of GERD. The reported incidence of GERD after LSG is up to 35%. Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) is considered the procedure of choice for patients with morbid obesity with GERD but objective evidence based on physiologic studies for the same are limited. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of the study were to determine the physiologic changes related to gastr

Prediction of Clearance and Dose of Midazolam in Preterm and Term Neonates: A Comparative Study Between Allometric Scaling and Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic Modeling.

Children are not small adults because besides size there are subtle physiological and biochemical differences between children and adults. Like adults, children also require medicine for the management or cure for the underlying diseases. To select a right dose in children, pharmacokinetic (PK) information is warranted. However, in many instances, a PK study in neonates and infants may not be possible. Therefore, various methods are used to predict PK parameters in this group of population, and these predicted parameters may help to calculate a safe dose for the very young children. Allometry

Morphological and physiological differences in the upper trapezius muscle in patients with work-related trapezius myalgia compared to healthy controls: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Trapezius myalgia is a common musculoskeletal complaint, characterized by pain, stiffness and tightness of the upper trapezius muscle. It is often work-related and caused by prolonged static and repetitive work tasks. It is hypothesized that this leads to various morphological and physiological alterations in muscle tissue but the pathophysiology is poorly understood. These alterations can be investigated by analysing muscle biopsies in order to reveal the underlying cellular mechanisms. OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aimed at providing a summary of the existing literature reg

Comparative associative and discriminative value of inflammatory, coagulation, hypoxia-perfusion, and electrolyte-metabolic indices for early respiratory physiological decompensation in acute pancreatitis.

BACKGROUND: Respiratory failure is a significant determinant of early mortality in cases of acute pancreatitis; however, the relative contributions of various pathophysiological processes remain ambiguous. Comparing the associative and discriminative values of inflammatory, coagulation, hypoxia-perfusion, and electrolyte-metabolic indices for respiratory failure holds substantial clinical implications. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving adult patients hospitalized with acute pancreatitis from 2019 to 2023. Four composite indices, which reflect systemic inflammation,

Exploring The Physiological and Physical Basis of RPE Responses in Soccer: A Comparative Analysis of Internal and External Load Determinants Across Different Training Drills.

This study investigated the relationships between Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) and various objective internal and external training load measures across multiple drill types in youth academy soccer players, a comparative approach that has been rarely examined. Forty-six male outfield soccer players (16.3 ± 0.4 years) from two under-17 academy-level teams competing in a city-level league, training three times per week with weekend matches, were monitored over two weeks during regular training. Data included RPE (CR-10 scale), heart rate responses (HRaverage, HRmax), and external load variab

Comparative Physiological and Metabolic Analysis Reveals a Complex Mechanism Involved in Drought Tolerance in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) Induced by PGPR and PGRs.

The plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and plant growth regulators (PGRs) can be applied to improve the growth and productivity of plants, with potential to be used for genetic improvement of drought tolerance. However, for genetic improvement to be achieved, a solid understanding of the physiological and biochemical changes in plants induced by PGPR and PGR is required. The present study was carried out to investigate the role of PGPR and PGRs on the physiology and biochemical changes in chickpea grown under drought stress conditions and their association with drought tolerance. Physiological and Comparative Genomic Analysis of Arthrobacter sp. SRS-W-1-2016 Provides Insights on Niche Adaptation for Survival in Uraniferous Soils.

Arthrobacter sp. strain SRS-W-1-2016 was isolated on high concentrations of uranium (U) from the Savannah River Site (SRS) that remains co-contaminated by radionuclides, heavy metals, and organics. SRS is located on the northeast bank of the Savannah River (South Carolina, USA), which is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) managed ecosystem left historically contaminated from decades of nuclear weapons production activities. Predominant contaminants within the impacted SRS environment include U and Nickel (Ni), both of which can be transformed microbially into less toxic forms via metal complexa

A Review of the Comparative Anatomy, Histology, Physiology and Pathology of the Nasal Cavity of Rats, Mice, Dogs and Non-human Primates. Relevance to Inhalation Toxicology and Human Health Risk Assessment.

There are many significant differences in the structural and functional anatomy of the nasal cavity of man and laboratory animals. Some of the differences may be responsible for the species-specific nasal lesions that are often observed in response to inhaled toxicants. This paper reviews the comparative anatomy, physiology and pathology of the nasal cavity of the rat, mouse, dog, monkey and man, highlighting factors that may influence the distribution of nasal lesions. Gross anatomical variations such as turbinate structure, folds or grooves on nasal walls, or presence or absence of accessory
