We performed lipiodolization and immunochemotherapy for recurrent pelvic tumor of sigmoid colon cancer using an infuserport which was implanted and connected to the catheter placed in the right internal iliac artery. Following lipiodolization, the level of CEA (980 ng/ml) decreased to within the normal range. MRI showed necrotic change and regression (more than 50%) of tumor. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Talc pleurodesis is commonly performed to manage refractory pleural effusion or pneumothorax. It is considered as a safe procedure as long as a limited amount of large particle size talc is used. However, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a rare but serious complication after talc pleurodesis. We sought to determine the risk factors for the development of ARDS after pleurodesis using a limited amount of large particle size talc.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent pleurodesis with talc or OK-432 at the University of Tokyo Hospital.

Bacterial endotoxin, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), is a causative agent of Gram-negative septic shock. However, if preadministered at a low dose, LPS makes mice resistant to subsequent endotoxin challenge, the phenomenon known as LPS tolerance. Lymphatic malformations are rare slow-flow vascular malformations, with high tendency to appear in the head and neck region. Enough amounts of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in mice serum for the therapy were observed by treatment with 100 units of recombinant human TNF-alpha (rHuTNF-alpha) followed by administration of OK-432 (a streptococcal preparation). Pleural effusion is a common complication in patients with malignant neoplasm. OBJECTIVE: Congenital arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in the maxillofacial region are rare, potentially life-threatening, vascular lesions. This study reviewed our experience with a multidisciplinary approach to treating maxillofacial AVMs in children.

OBJECTIVES: OK-432 has been widely used to treat lymphangioma and ranula; however, there are few studies for its use in treatment of branchial cleft cyst (BCC). We conducted this study to evaluate the effectiveness of sclerotherapy using OK-432 in treatment of BCC.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Case series with planned data collection.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: From 2004 to 2007, we treated 23 patients with BCC using OK-432 sclerotherapy. Of these 23 patients, 18 had unilocular cysts and five had multilocular cysts. The sizes of the BCCs were measured and compared before and after treatment.
