Implementing the Lolli-Method and pooled RT-qPCR testing for SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in schools: a pilot project.

PURPOSE: School closures have been used as part of lockdown strategies to contain the spread of SARS-CoV-2, adversely affecting children's health and education. To ensure the accessibility of educational institutions without exposing society to the risk of increased transmissions, it is essential to establish SARS-CoV-2 testing strategies that are child-friendly, scalable and implementable in a daily school routine. Self-sampling using non-invasive saliva swabs combined with pooled RT-qPCR testing (Lolli-Method) has been proven to be a sensitive method for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. METHODS

Standardizing Strep Throat Documentation in a Pediatric Outpatient Setting During COVID-19: A Quality Improvement Pilot Project.

Clinicians' nonadherence to the 2012 Infectious Diseases Society of America's group A streptococcal (GAS) pharyngitis guidelines leads to unnecessary in-person clinic visits, unnecessary use of bacterial testing, and inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions. Quality improvement methodology was used during nurse telephone triage at an outpatient pediatric clinic to standardize nurse documentation to align with the GAS guidelines. This pilot project's standardization resulted in improved communication among clinicians and decreased unnecessary resource and antibiotic use despite encountering barri

[The CCM Project "Preventing vector-borne diseases through the development and pilot implementation of new operational supporting tools"].

The relevant ecological changes due to the anthropological pressure on the planet is causing reactions in the biological systems, which we must understand and characterize at the local scale to assist the adoption of suitable decisions in the public health risk management. The project presented in this paper is focused on the vector-borne diseases, mainly transmitted by mosquitoes. The species of mosquito currently playing an active role of public health importance in Italy are Aedes albopictus, as a vector of Chikungunya, Dengue and Zika viruses, as well as Culex pipiens, as a vector of West

Importance of prudent antibiotic use on dairy farms in South Carolina: a pilot project on farmers' knowledge, attitudes and practices.

Inappropriate use of antibiotics in humans and animals contributes to decreased antimicrobial susceptibility in bacteria of medical importance. Resistant bacteria being transferred from animals to humans are causing public health concern. In-person interviews were conducted with 20 dairy farmers in rural counties of South Carolina to determine farmers' knowledge and attitudes about prudent antibiotic use among livestock. Four focus groups (n = 22) were also conducted to ascertain farmers' specific information needs about proper antibiotic use. Survey results showed that participants (100%) typ

Piloting a Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial on the Effects of Integrated Psychosocial Care in Intensive Care Units (Phase B of the Integrated Psychosocial Care-Pilot Project): Protocol for a Feasibility Study.

BACKGROUND: Intensive care units (ICUs) present a highly stressful environment for patients, relatives, and health care professionals, often resulting in psychological distress. Despite the well-documented psychosocial burden, there is a lack of low-threshold, integrated support structures for all target groups. Based on the findings of phase A, a complex intervention was developed involving the permanent integration of study therapists into ICU teams. OBJECTIVE: This pilot study (phase B of the Integrated Psychosocial Care [IPS]-Pilot project) aims to assess the feasibility of a pragmatic, c

Clinico-epidemiological profile findings of the screened population under NPCDCS-Ayush (Integration of Homeopathy along with Yoga): a pilot project.

BACKGROUND: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a major global health challenge, accounting for nearly 74% of deaths worldwide, with the highest burden in low- and middle-income countries. In India, 66% of total deaths are attributed to NCDs, reflecting a rapid epidemiological transition and a dual burden of disease. To address this, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) in 2010, integrating Ayush systems (Homeopathy along with Yoga) to strengthen prevention and earl

Development and pilot-testing of an evidence-based quality indicator set for home mechanical ventilation care: the OVER-BEAS project.

BACKGROUND: The number of patients depending on home mechanical ventilation (HMV) has increased substantially in Germany in recent years. These patients receive long-term care in different nursing facilities (nursing home, shared living community, private home). However, there are limited data available on the quality of care of HMV patients. The aim of the OVER-BEAS project was to identify quality indicators (QIs) of HMV care using an evidence-based approach. METHODS: A multidisciplinary board consisting of professionals and experts of HMV provision compiled a set of QIs between March and Se

Implementation and findings on a one-minute sit-stand test for prehospital triage in patients with suspected COVID-19-a pilot project.

INTRODUCTION: During the initial Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic wave, sparse personal protection equipment made telephone triage of suscpeted COVID-19 patients for ambulance transport necessary. To spare resources, stable patients were often treated and released on-scene, but reports from Italy suggested that some later detoriated. We implemented a prehospital sit-stand test to identify patients in risk for detoriation. METHODS: The test was implemented as part of a new guideline in stable suspected COVID-19 patients younger than 70 years with no risk factors for serious disease
