The luteal phase of 20 infertile women with endometriosis who were treated with danazol (600 mg daily for 6 months) was studied by basal body temperature, plasma progesterone (P), oestradiol (E2) and prolactin (PRL) determination, and endometrial biopsy, in any one of the first three cycles after discontinuation of danazol. The Authors report their experience in a double-blind, crossover study (danazol versus placebo) in 38 patients suffering from severe benign mastopathy. The advent of hysteroscopic laser surgery has provided an alternative to hysterectomy in women with menorrhagia refractory to other forms of treatment. In 17 patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura unresponsive to treatment with steroids, immunosuppression or splenectomy, allogenic vincristine-loaded platelets were used. In 85 patients with psoriasis vulgaris the efficacy and tolerance of domoprednate and betamethasone valerate were studied in a double-blind, randomized trial lasting 4 weeks. Complete or satisfactory remission was obtained in 36% in the domoprednate group and in 53% in the betamethasone group. This difference is not statistically significant (p greater than 0.10). 3 patients on each treatment experienced some local irritation. No laboratory abnormalities were found during the study.

Six of seven women treated for endometriosis with daily administrations of 800 mg of danazol over 4.7 to 9 months developed one or more mildly abnormal serum enzyme levels. Ovarian endocrine function in endometriosis was studied in 19 women before, during, and after treatment with danazol. Striking abnormalities were seen during treatment. The results of treatment of 20 female patients with fibrocystic degeneration of the breast with danazol are discussed. Diagnosis was made with the aid of mammography. Danazol was administered in the dose of 200 mg twice a day for 2 months, followed by 100 mg thrice a day, and 100 mg twice a day for further 2 months. An improvement in the clinical symptoms, decrease in LH, FSH, estradiol and progesterone levels was produced by danazol. The drug did not change LH response to LH-RH stimulation while blockade of dopaminergic receptors with metoclopramide decreased PRL response.
