Do social media campaigns foster vaccination adherence? A systematic review of prior intervention-based campaigns on social media.

The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of large-scale campaigns to facilitate vaccination adherence. Social media presents unique opportunities to reach broader audiences and reduces the costs of conducting national or global campaigns aimed at achieving herd immunity. Nonetheless, few studies have reviewed the effectiveness of prior social media campaigns for vaccination adherence, and several prior studies have shown that social media campaigns do not increase uptake rates. Hence, our objective is to conduct a systematic review to examine the effectiveness of social media camp

Characterizing non-heroin opioid overdoses using electronic health records.

INTRODUCTION: The opioid epidemic is a modern public health emergency. Common interventions to alleviate the opioid epidemic aim to discourage excessive prescription of opioids. However, these methods often take place over large municipal areas (state-level) and may fail to address the diversity that exists within each opioid case (individual-level). An intervention to combat the opioid epidemic that takes place at the individual-level would be preferable. METHODS: This research leverages computational tools and methods to characterize the opioid epidemic at the individual-level using the ele

Predicting the retention time of Synthetic Cannabinoids using a combinatorial QSAR approach.

BACKGROUND: Abuse of Synthetic Cannabinoids (SCs) has become a serious threat to public health. Due to the various structural and chemical group modified by criminals, their detection is a major challenge in forensic toxicological identification. Therefore, rapid and efficient identification of SCs is important for forensic toxicology and drug bans. The prediction of an analyte's retention time in liquid chromatography is an important index for the qualitative analysis of compounds and can provide informatics solutions for the interpretation of chromatographic data. METHODS: In this study, ex

Automated retinal lesion detection via image saliency analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The detection of abnormalities such as lesions or leakage from retinal images is an important health informatics task for automated early diagnosis of diabetic and malarial retinopathy or other eye diseases, in order to prevent blindness and common systematic conditions. In this work, we propose a novel retinal lesion detection method by adapting the concepts of saliency. METHODS: Retinal images are first segmented as superpixels, two new saliency feature representations: uniqueness and compactness, are then derived to represent the superpixels. The pixel level salie

Artificial intelligence in nutritional health: sustainable consumers' right to quality of life with special reference to youth.

BACKGROUND: Maintaining optimal youth nutritional health is an urgent socio-economic imperative that underpins long-term human productivity and rights-based development. However, modern youth cohorts face unique dietary threats caused by the widespread availability of ultra-processed foods, targeted digital marketing, and complex food labeling protocols. Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents innovative avenues for personalized dietary profiling, existing systems remain largely technocentric and detached from statutory frameworks or behavioral realities. OBJECTIVE: This study bridges

The Folate Concentration and/or Folic Acid Metabolites in Plasma as Factor for COVID-19 Infection.

Pregnant women appear to be more susceptible to infectious diseases than women in reproductive age. According to the California Department of Public Health pregnant women were 9.6-folds more likely to be hospitalized during the 2009 influenza outbreak when compared to non-pregnant women in reproductive age. In contrast, it was reported that of 16,749 COVID-19 patients that were hospitalized in the UK, the probability for pregnant women to require in-patient care due to infection by SARS-CoV-2 was 0.95 versus non-pregnant women. Therefore 9.6/0.95 = 10.10, which brings us to the conclusion that
