Radiomics for Growth Prediction of Vestibular Schwannomas in Neurofibromatosis Type 2.

BACKGROUND/AIM: NF2-related schwannomatosis, formerly known as Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) is characterized by bilateral vestibular schwannomas (VS). Managing NF2 requires balancing watchful waiting with surgical intervention, each carrying inherent risks. While these risks are acknowledged, they have not yet been subjected to systematic investigation. Accurate prognosis of tumor growth is crucial for clinical decision-making. This study investigated radiomics features from longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data to predict VS growth. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Radiomics features wer

Radiomics-based prediction of intraoperative blood loss during intracranial meningiomas surgery.

Meningiomas surgery is frequently accompanied by substantial blood loss, which is associated with an increased incidence of medical morbidities. Neuroimaging features, such as radiomic characteristics, could provide additional quantitative information on the tumor. Nonetheless, the usefulness of radiomics in predicting intraoperative blood loss has yet to be validated. Our objective was to examine the potential of radiomics to predict intraoperative blood loss in patients with intracranial meningiomas. A total of 137 patients with primary diagnosed intracranial meningiomas were evaluated via h

Lung nodule classification using radiomics model trained on degraded SDCT images.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening has shown promise in reducing lung cancer mortality; however, it suffers from high false positive rates and a scarcity of available annotated datasets. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel approach using synthetic LDCT images generated from standard-dose CT (SDCT) scans from the LIDC-IDRI dataset. Our objective is to develop and validate an interpretable radiomics-based model for distinguishing likely benign from likely malignant pulmonary nodules. METHODS: From a total of 1010 CT images (695 SDCTs and 315 LDC

[Advancements in Radiomics for Immunotherapy of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer].

Lung cancer is the main cause of cancer-related deaths, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) being the predominant subtype. At present, immunotherapy represented by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) of programmed cell death receptor 1 or its ligand has been widely used in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with NSCLC. However, only a few patients can benefit from it, and reliable predictive markers for immunotherapy are lacking. Radiomics is a tool that uses computer software and algorithms to extract a large amount of quantitative information from biomedical images. A large

Radiomics analysis to predict pulmonary nodule malignancy using machine learning approaches.

BACKGROUND: Low-dose CT screening can reduce lung cancer-related mortality. However, most screen-detected pulmonary abnormalities do not develop into cancer and it often remains challenging to identify malignant nodules, particularly among indeterminate nodules. We aimed to develop and assess prediction models based on radiological features to discriminate between benign and malignant pulmonary lesions detected on a baseline screen. METHODS: Using four international lung cancer screening studies, we extracted 2060 radiomic features for each of 16 797 nodules (513 malignant) among 6865 partici
