The contribution of reproductive factors and family history towards premenopausal breast cancer risk in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Malaysian women. This study aimed to determine the reproductive for premenopausal breast cancer risk in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A case-control study was conducted in 216 histopathologically confirmed cases of premenopausal breast cancer and 216 community-based controls that were matched by age within a 5-year period and ethnicity. The results of this study showed that premenopausal breast cancer risks were strongly related to parity, number of live births and family history of breast cancer. Premenopausal women with these known reproductive and fam

Reproductive history and later-life health: examining the link between birth intervals and CKD in postmenopausal women.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the associations between birth interval and prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in United States (U.S.) postmenopausal women with two deliveries. METHODS: The study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) covering 1999 to 2018, which is publicly available. Weighted multivariable logistic regression, subgroup analysis and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were used to study association of reproductive factors (birth interval) with CKD risk in postmenopausal women with two deliveries. Additionally, the assoc

Spectrum of genital findings in ART-conceived male neonates: A blinded case series analyzing parental reproductive history.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: An increase in genital abnormalities in boys born via assisted reproductive technologies (ART) is possibly linked to either the technical aspects of ART or parental health, regardless of the type of ART procedure. This study aimed to describe the spectrum and prevalence of genital findings in ART-conceived male infants and to identify potential modifiable factors associated with genital development in this subpopulation. METHODS: An observational, exploratory/hypothesis-generating case series was conducted from August 2006 to July 2007. A total of 294 consecutively

Life history, dormancy regulation, reproductive physiology and basic behaviour of the subtropical fruit fly Rhagoletotrypeta pastranai (Diptera:Tephritidae).

With the purpose of broadening knowledge on the evolution of life history strategies and behaviour of fruit flies within the tribe Carpomyini, the natural history and mating behaviour of the poorly known species Rhagoletotrypeta pastranai Aczél, are described for the first time. Larvae of R. pastranai were recovered from infested Celtis tala Gillies ex Planch and Celtis iguanaea (Jacq.) Sarg. during a 2-month fruiting period. Adults emerged from the recovered pupae after an average of 144.9 ± 3.9 days for females and 143.2 ± 3.38 days for males, suggesting that most individuals became dormant.

Reproductive and menstrual history and papillary thyroid cancer risk: the San Francisco Bay Area thyroid cancer study.

Thyroid cancer rates are three times higher in women than men during the period between puberty and menopause, suggesting that the etiology of thyroid cancer may be related to female sex hormones and reproductive function. However, the results from epidemiological studies have been mixed. To assess this hypothesis, data on menstrual history, pregnancy history, and exogenous hormone use were analyzed from a population-based, case-control study conducted in the San Francisco Bay Area. Of 817 incident thyroid cancer patients (cases), ages 20-74 years, who were diagnosed in 1992-1998 and 793 contr

[Prediction of complications of I trimester of pregnancy in women with distressed reproductive history by detection of transcervical trophoblastic cells].

The present study investigated the possibility of using trophoblastic (fetal) cells in cervical mucus of pregnant women with complicated reproductive history to predict the course of early I trimester of pregnancy. We examined 86 women at 5-6 weeks of gestation, 56 of them with normal pregnancy, 12 with missed abortion, 18 with tubal pregnancy. As a control we used 21 non-pregnant womеn with primary infertility. Trophoblastic cells we detected by immunohistochemical method and then counted. It was revealed that in the normal course of early I trimester transcervical trophoblastic cells were de

Variable aneuploidy mechanisms in embryos from couples with poor reproductive histories undergoing preimplantation genetic screening.

BACKGROUND: Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) is used to determine the chromosome status of human embryos from patients with advanced maternal age (AMA), recurrent miscarriage (RM) or repeated implantation failure (RIF). METHODS: Embryos from 47 such couples were investigated for chromosomes 13, 15, 16, 18, 21 and 22 using fluorescence in situ hybridization with two rounds of hybridization. The investigation included parental lymphocyte work-up, the screening of blastomeres on day 3 and full follow-up on day 5/6 of untransferred embryos. RESULTS: The outcome of 60 PGS cycles is describ

Birth characteristics, maternal reproductive history, and the risk of infant leukemia: a report from the Children's Oncology Group.

Leukemias with MLL gene rearrangements predominate in infants (<1 year of age), but not in older children, and may have a distinct etiology. High birth weight, higher birth order, and prior fetal loss have, with varying consistency, been associated with infant leukemia, but no studies have reported results with respect to MLL status. Here, we report for the first time such an analysis. During 1999 to 2003, mothers of 240 incident cases (113 MLL(+), 80 MLL(-), and 47 indeterminate) and 255 random digit dialed controls completed a telephone interview. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for

Relation of demographic factors, menstrual history, reproduction and medication use to sex hormone levels in postmenopausal women.

In postmenopausal women, levels of estrogens, androgens, and perhaps prolactin have been related to risk of breast and other hormonal cancers in women. However, the determinants of these hormone concentrations have not been firmly established. Associations among various demographic, menstrual, and reproductive factors, medication use and endogenous sex hormone concentrations (estradiol, free estradiol, estrone, estrone sulfate, testosterone, free testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin, androstenedione, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), DHEA sulfate (DHEAS), dihydrotestosterone, and prolactin)

The reliability and validity of self-reported reproductive history and obstetric morbidity amongst Birth to Ten mothers in Soweto.

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether self-reports of reproductive history and obstetric morbidity provide an accurate basis for clinical decision-making. SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Self-reports of maternal age and reproductive history, together with clinical measurements of five medical disorders, were abstracted from the obstetric notes of 517 mothers whose children were enrolled in the Birth to Ten study. These data were compared to self-reported information collected by interview during the Birth to Ten study. FINDINGS: The reliability of self-reported age and gravidity was high (R = 0.810

The effect of the introduction of prenatal diagnosis on the reproductive history of women at increased risk from neural tube defects.

The reproductive history of 45 couples at increased risk for neural tube defect (NTD) who came for genetic counselling in 1970 and 1971 were compared with a similar number counselled in 1975 and 1976, when prenatal diagnostic tests were freely offered. They were subsequently interviewed in their homes and had their reproductive history recorded to the end of 1973 and 1978 respectively. Nearly all had a previous child with an NTD and none of the women were pregnant at the time of counselling. The effect of prenatal diagnosis was to speed somewhat the decision about further pregnancies, but the

Mosaicism for Autosomal Trisomies: A Comprehensive Analysis of 1266 Published Cases Focusing on Maternal Age and Reproductive History.

Mosaicism for autosomal trisomy is uncommon in clinical practice. However, despite its rarity among both prenatally and postnatally diagnoses, there are a large number of characterized and published cases. Surprisingly, in contrast to regular trisomies, no attempts at systematic analyses of mosaic carriers' demographics were undertaken. This is the first study aimed to address this gap. For that, we have screened more than eight hundred publications on mosaic trisomies, reviewing data including gender and clinical status of mosaic carriers, maternal age and reproductive history. In total, 596

Hyperhomocysteinemia in men with a reproductive history of fetal neural tube defects: Three case reports and literature review.

RATIONALE: Hereditary hyperhomocysteinemia results from a polymorphism in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene that reduces folate metabolism. Mutations in the MTHFR gene are common in parents who have given birth to children with neural tube defects (NTDs). Most research has focused on the risk for fetal NTDs in women with hyperhomocysteinemia and MTHFR gene mutations. Studies investigating the association between hyperhomocysteinemia, MTHFR gene mutations, and the risk for fetal NTDs in men are scarce. PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we report on 3 men with hyperhomocysteinemia and

A tale of two tracts: history, current advances, and future directions of research on sexual differentiation of reproductive tracts†.

Alfred Jost's work in the 1940s laid the foundation of the current paradigm of sexual differentiation of reproductive tracts, which contends that testicular hormones drive the male patterning of reproductive tract system whereas the female phenotype arises by default. Once established, the sex-specific reproductive tracts undergo morphogenesis, giving rise to anatomically and functionally distinct tubular organs along the rostral-caudal axis. Impairment of sexual differentiation of reproductive tracts by genetic alteration and environmental exposure are the main causes of disorders of sex deve

Coronary microvascular dysfunction is not associated with a history of reproductive risk factors in women with angina pectoris-An iPOWER substudy.

BACKGROUND: Reproductive risk factors such as preeclampsia and recurrent miscarriages have been associated with adverse cardiovascular (CV) events. Underlying coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) may be a common denominator. PURPOSE: We investigated whether a history of reproductive risk factors was associated with CMD in women with angina pectoris and no obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS: Participants from the iPOWER study, including women with angina pectoris and no obstructive CAD (<50% stenosis), were invited to complete an electronic survey regarding reproductive ri

Association of reproductive history with hypertension and prehypertension in Chinese postmenopausal women: a population-based cross-sectional study.

Hypertension and prehypertension may have important roles in the etiology of cardiovascular disease. However, the risk factors of hypertension and prehypertension have not been thoroughly elucidated to date. This study intended to explore the relative effects between reproductive history and the prevalence of hypertension and prehypertension. A population-based cross-sectional survey of postmenopausal women (n=6252), aged 41-93 years, was conducted from August 2013 to August 2015. All subjects, selected by the multistage random sampling method in Henan province, were categorized as normotensio

Reproductive and family planning history, knowledge, and needs: a community survey of low-income women in Beijing, China.

BACKGROUND: The reproductive health status of China's low-income urban women is believed to be poor. Therefore, understanding their reproductive history and needs and improving services provision is very important. However, few studies have been done to assess reproductive health status, knowledge and needs in this low-income population. The purpose of this study is to broadly assess reproductive and family planning history, knowledge and health needs among low income urban women with an aim to informing health services interventions. METHODS: 1642 low-income women age 18-49 from Haidian dist
