Nonlinear resonant vibration of a partially immersed beam in viscous fluid.

This article presents an experimental exploration of the nonlinear vibration of a partially immersed cantilever beam. A set of hypotheses was developed to study the influence of the geometry (immersion depth and volume of the fluid) and fluid properties (viscosity and density) on the nonlinear response of the beam, and a test matrix of combinations of different parameters was generated. From the nonlinear experiments, linear parameters such as resonant frequency, damping ratio, and nonlinear parameters such as nonlinear frequency shift and nonlinear damping ratio were extracted. Finally, a reg

Frequency-Specific Alterations in Brain Function in Patients with Primary Dysmenorrhea.

OBJECTIVE: Recent neuroimaging studies have found that brain function is abnormal in primary dysmenorrhea (PDM). The present study aimed to explore frequency-specific brain alterations and their occurrence in the PDM. METHODS: Forty-seven patients with PDM and 36 matched healthy controls were enrolled in the study and underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. The alterations in brain function in patients with PDM were assessed with different frequency filter bands (Slow5, Slow4, Slow3, and full low frequency) and a functional connectivity density (FCD) approach. The clini

In vivo wideband MR elastography for assessing age-related viscoelasticity changes of the human brain.

Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) noninvasively maps brain biomechanics and is highly sensitive to alterations associated with aging and neurodegenerative disease. Most implementations use a single frequency or a narrow frequency band, limiting the analysis of frequency-dependent viscoelasticity parameters. We developed a dual-actuator wideband MRE (5-50 Hz) protocol and acquired wave fields at 13 frequencies in 24 healthy adults (young: 23-39 years; older: 50-63 years). Shear wave speed (SWS) maps were generated as a proxy for stiffness, and SWS dispersion was modeled using Newtonian, Kel

Otosclerosis in a black child: diagnostic acoustic impedance studies.

Otosclerosis classically describes an osteodystrophic change in the bony labyrinth and stapes footplate, of autosomal dominant inheritance, reported rare under the age of 5, extremely "rare" in the Oriental and Black race, "non-existent" in the American Indian, and with a clinical incidence of 5 per 1000 Caucasians. The differential diagnosis of a non-effusion conductive hearing loss in a child should include otosclerosis, congenital malleus or footplate fixation, tympanosclerotic fixation, congenital cholesteatoma, lysis of the incus long process, Paget's disease, osteogenesis imperfecta, and

Using Osstell to Monitor Primary Implant Stability: A Clinical Case Report.

The increased demand for implants in the dental surgeon's clinical routine, methods and techniques have been created that involve non-invasive quantitative analysis, do not damage the bone-implant interface and objectively measure implant stability, such as resonance frequency analysis. The aim of this case report is to present a clinical case of a patient who came to the Dental School Clinic with a diagnosis of oblique root fracture with an indication for root extraction and immediate implant placement. The Osstell was used as another technique, in addition to the torque wrench, to measure th

Default mode network shows alterations for low-frequency fMRI fluctuations in euthymic bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a psychiatric condition causing acute dysfunctional mood states and emotion regulation. Specific neuropsychological features are often present also among patients in euthymic phase, who do not show clear psychotic symptoms, and for whom the characterization from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is very limited. This study aims at identifying the neural and behavioral correlates of the default mode network (DMN) using the fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuations (fALFF). Eighteen euthymic BD patients (10 females; age = 54.50 ± 11.38 years) and sixt

Effect of Additional Mass on Natural Frequencies of Weight-Sensing Structures.

The phenomena of variability and interference in the natural frequencies of weight-sensing structures applied in complex working conditions must solve the problem of reducing or eliminating resonance under low-frequency vibrations to maximize stability, accuracy and reliability. The influence laws of the additional mass with relevant characteristics on the natural frequencies, which include the components of mass, stiffness and center-of-mass distribution, etc. Firstly, the theoretical formulas of the mathematical model are given based on different characteristics of the weight-sensing structu

Multiresonant Membrane Metasurfaces for Multifunctional Molecular Absorption Sensing and Real Time Biochemical Tracking.

Label-free identification and real time tracking of biochemical substances became critical for molecular diagnostics and chemical analysis, yet conventional resonant terahertz (THz) metasurface sensing relies on a single resonance, limiting spectral selectivity and dynamic capability. Here, we suggest multiresonant membrane metasurfaces and employ them for simultaneous static characteristic absorption detection and dynamic reaction monitoring within a single pixel. We consider a membrane metasurface supporting multiple quasi-bound states in the continuum designed at target frequencies and enab

Application of graph theory across multiple frequency bands in drug-naïve obsessive-compulsive disorder with no comorbidity.

Recently, graph theoretical analysis based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging has provided a means of investigating the complex brain connectome in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients. However, these studies have been restricted to spontaneous blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) signals with frequency bands between 0.01 and 0.08 Hz, and the parameters from graph theory across multiple frequency bands have seldom been studied. Here, we calculated global metrics (small-worldness, global efficiency and modularity) and nodal metrics (degree centrality, betweenness centr

Phase coupling between eye and brain pulsations is bidirectional and modulated by the parasympathetic system - An fMREye study.

PURPOSE: Physiological pulsations driven by cardiac, respiratory, and vasomotor activity are essential for solute transport within perivascular and perineural cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways that support brain and eye clearance systems. Previous studies have shown that parasympathetic blockade significantly reduces ocular pulsation power and induces systemic alterations in cerebral pulsations, but the connecting mechanism has been uncertain. METHODS: We first investigated classical cross-correlation (CC) strength and lag values between brain and eye regions of interest (ROIs) and then exam

Alterations in the brain functional network of abstinent male individuals with methamphetamine use disorder.

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive psychostimulant drug that is abused globally and is a serious threat to health worldwide. Unfortunately, the specific mechanism underlying addiction remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the characteristics of functional connectivity in the brain network and the factors influencing methamphetamine use disorder in patients using magnetic resonance imaging. We included 96 abstinent male participants with methamphetamine use disorder and 46 age- and sex-matched healthy controls for magnetic resonance imaging. Compared with healthy controls, p

Hierarchical frequency-locking organization and quint points in a periodically driven FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model.

We uncover the global organization of resonance structures in a periodically driven FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model. High-resolution Lyapunov diagrams with local-maxima (LM) classification expose a hierarchical network of Arnold tongues in parameter space. Frequency-locking regions emerge from quasiperiodic dynamics and extend into chaotic domains, following a period-adding organization consistent with Farey-tree ordering. Successive magnifications reveal multiscale embeddings of stable periodic structures containing quint points, where five periodic domains coalesce and satisfy local LM-adding r

Wide-band multifrequency MR elastography with a fractional viscoelastic model and nonlinear inversion for enhanced viscoelastic parameter mapping.

Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) typically relies on external vibrations, potentially missing diagnostically relevant low-frequency responses. This study presents a wide-band multifrequency MRE framework that combines intrinsic cardiac motion (≈1 Hz) with conventional 30-60 Hz actuation and reconstructs tissue mechanics with a three-parameter Kelvin-Voigt fractional-derivative (KVFD) model. Subzone nonlinear inversion estimates the baseline stiffness (θ0), fractional exponent (α), and reference frequency (ωo) parameters from which frequency-dependent storage (G'), loss (G″), and magnitude

Quantum calculation of highly excited vibrational energy levels of CS2(X) on a new empirical potential energy surface and semiclassical analysis of 1:2 Fermi resonance.

We report a refined potential energy function for the ground electronic state of CS2 based on a least-squares fitting to several low-lying experimental vibrational frequencies. Energy levels up to 20,000 cm(-1) have been obtained on this empirical potential using the Lanczos algorithm and potential optimized discrete variable representation. Among them, 329 levels below 10,000 cm(-1) are assigned with approximate normal mode quantum numbers (n1, n(0)2, n3), based on expectation values of one-dimensional (1D) reference Hamiltonians. An effective Hamiltonian is extracted from these assigned leve

The adverse effects of car seats and vibration frequencies on different lumbar intervertebral discs in different age groups.

The prolonged whole-body vibration (WBV) may be one of the important factors contributing to low back pain. This study used a validated whole-body model and the WBV evaluation standard (ISO 2631-5:2018) to investigate the effects of car seat, frequency and age on the risk factors of the lumbar spine during prolonged exposure to WBV. The modal frequencies contributing more to the human resonance were first preliminarily predicted by modal analysis, and then sinusoidal excitations with frequencies of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 Hz were applied for transient analysis. On this basis, the adverse effe

Long-term TMJ effects of Herbst treatment: a clinical and MRI study.

The long-term effects of the Herbst appliance on the temporomandibular joint were assessed in 20 patients (10 girls and 10 boys) who had completed treatment an average of 4 years previously. The TMJ analysis comprised of: (1) an anamnestic questionnaire (2) a clinical investigation (manual functional analysis) and (3) magnetic resonance imaging of the left and right joints. The results revealed that the incidence of anamnestic and clinical signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders was within the range of "normal" reported in the literature. The frequency of disk displacement was not hi

Magnetic Resonance Elastography for Mechanical Modeling of the Human Lumbar Intervertebral Disc.

Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) is a phase-contrast imaging technique that allows for determination of mechanical properties of tissue in-vivo. Due to physiological and morphological changes leading to changes in tissue mechanical properties, MRE may be a promising imaging tool for detection of intervertebral disc degeneration. We therefore performed a preliminary study to determine the frequency dependent mechanical properties of the lumbar intervertebral discs. Six healthy volunteers underwent multifrequency MRE (50, 80, and 100 Hz) to measure the mechanical properties of the intervert

A new method for detecting exchanging amide protons using chemical exchange rotation transfer.

In this study, we introduce a new method for amide proton transfer imaging based on chemical exchange rotation transfer. It avoids several artifacts that plague conventional chemical exchange saturation transfer approaches by creating label and reference scans based on varying the irradiation pulse rotation angle (π and 2π radians) instead of the frequency offset (3.5 and -3.5 ppm). Specifically, conventional analysis is sensitive to confounding contributions from magnetic field (B(0)) inhomogeneities and, more problematically, inherently asymmetric macromolecular resonances. In addition, the
