PURPOSE: To evaluate factors associated with progression-free and disease-specific survival in patients with paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma, we performed a cohort study. Also, since many patients present to our institution after initial therapy, we analyzed the effects of salvage therapy for scrotal violation.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of all consecutive patients with histologically confirmed paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma treated at our institution between 1978 and 2015. Fifty-one patients were initially identified, but two with incomplete data were excl

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) is a rare malignant neoplasm found in both male and female children. It typically presents as a protruding vaginal mass with vaginal bleeding in girls less than 8 years of age. It is often seen as the sarcoma botryoides histologic sub type. This report represents the first case study of ERMS presenting as a vulvar mass. The article further explores the etiologies of pediatric vulvar masses, including ERMS, and the suggested diagnostic and treatment modalities.

INTRODUCTION: An embryonic paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma is a very rare mesenchymal tumor. It is an intrascrotal tumor that is localized in paratesticular structures such as the epididymis or spermatic cord. Rhabdomyosarcoma is most often observed in children and adolescents, presenting as a painless scrotal mass.
CASE PRESENTATION: Our patient was an 18-year-old Moroccan man who presented with a painless left scrotal mass that had evolved over four months. An inguinal orchiectomy was performed. A histological examination of the excised tissue revealed an embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma. Our pati

We report the case of a 52-year-old man who presented with a 10-day history of right eye and eyelid inflammation and intermittent diplopia following blunt trauma to the right eyebrow. The CT and MRI scans revealed an extraconal soft tissue mass on the orbital floor with maxillary and ethmoid sinus wall destruction, which on orbital biopsy was proven to be an Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. The patient had a central retinal vein occlusion due to mass effect that resulted in total visual loss at 2 months. He was referred to oncologists who treated him according to the paediatric RMS protocol and is s

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the commonest paediatric soft-tissue sarcoma constituting 3-5% of all malignancies in childhood. RMS has a predilection for the head and neck area and tumours in this location account for 40% of all childhood RMS cases. In this review we address the clinical and imaging presentations of craniofacial RMS, discuss the most appropriate imaging techniques, present characteristic imaging features and offer an overview of differential diagnostic considerations. Post-treatment changes will be briefly addressed.

The authors present a rare form of orbital cavitary rhabdomyosarcoma in which lymphangioma was mistakenly diagnosed on the basis of echography and MRI. Rhabdomyosarcoma can usually be differentiated from lymphangioma by echographic and MR imaging, because cavitation is very rare in orbital rhabdomyosarcoma, but rhabdomyosarcoma should be suspected whenever the clinical presentation of a rapidly progressive unilateral exophthalmos is observed in a child.

We describe a case of fetal rhabdomyosarcoma detected during the third trimester of pregnancy by prenatal sonography. At 33 weeks' gestation, sonography performed because of suspected polyhydramnios showed a solid mass of 120 x 54 mm arising from the anterior wall of the fetal thoracic cage. Another mass within the left maxillary area which originated from the left orbital floor was also detected. In the abdomen, there were multiple round masses in and around the liver. As the previous scan at 28 weeks had appeared normal, the multiple masses which became visible and enlarged rapidly in differ

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) occurs infrequently in the liver and biliary tree. Although the radiological diagnosis may be simple when the tumour involves the extrahepatic bile ducts, no specific imaging features are known for hepatic RMS. We present four cases and discuss the role of diagnostic radiology in the management of this tumour.

This case report concerns an embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the testis in a 31-yr-old white male patient who underwent radical left orchiectomy, followed by combined irradiation and chemotherapy, and who 2 yr later presented with dyspnea at rest, nonproductive cough, and lower back pain for 1 wk. Chest radiographs demonstrated a bilateral pleural effusion and diffuse infiltrating lesion of the pleurae, mimicking a mesothelioma. The pleural fluid displayed noncohesive, malignant, small, round cells about 2-5 times larger than mature lymphocytes. They had large, darkly stained, pleomorphic nuclei

PURPOSE: Combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy have improved the survival of children with primary orbital rhabdomyosarcoma, but recurrence or persistence of the local orbital tumor still occurs. There are no established guidelines for dealing with these uncommon patients, and the authors present a review of the combined method treatment and outcome of children with refractory primary orbital rhabdomyosarcoma.
METHODS: From clinical databases, 67 children with orbital rhabdomyosarcoma were identified. Seven (10%) of the 67 children had tumors refractory to combined chemotherapy and radi

Rhabdomyosarcoma, a common soft tissue sarcoma in children, is rarely reported. The head and neck are the most common sites of occurrence. A case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the nasopharynx is presented. The patient, a five-year-old boy, presented with a two-monthly history of epistaxis. Ear-Nose-Throat examination revealed a mass at the hard palate. Head and neck MRI showed a nasopharyngeal mass with invasion to the skull base, and intracranial extention. Histological examination of the mass revealed embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. A combination chemotherapy and intrathecal medication was ad

Seventeen (13 male, 4 female) patients, aged 13 months to 13 years, with benign cystitis had imaging findings that mimicked those of rhabdomyosarcoma. Our experience indicates that in the child with hematuria, dysuria, and frequency plus cystographic or sonographic demonstration of a bladder with reduced capacity and circumferential wall thickening or sonographic findings of isoechoic bladder wall thickening (focal, multifocal or circumferential distribution), intact mucosa, and bullous lesions should strongly suggest inflammation and not malignancy. When an inflammatory lesion is suspected, f

The third in a series of Paediatric Therapeutic Development Workshops focused on rhabdomyosarcoma. Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children, with 90% survival for those with the lowest risk disease, but just 20-30% in children with metastatic disease. An urgent unmet need exists to develop targeted therapeutics for high-risk disease and to reduce the toxicity of treatment. The results of trials of CAR T-cells and ADCs against FGFR4 are awaited with great interest, and developing a FGFR4 degrader is a priority. Directly targeting PAX3::FOXO1 and PAX7::FOXO1 fusion pro

Cardiac tumors are rare and complex, with malignant forms carrying a poor prognosis. These tumors are classified as either primary or secondary, with the latter, including metastases, being more prevalent. Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare but aggressive soft tissue sarcoma, can occasionally metastasize to the heart. Here, we report the case of a 75-year-old male with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma originating in the fibular muscles, extending to the left atrium, left ventricle, and bronchi. The patient presented with acute dyspnea, palpitations, and cardiogenic shock. Imaging revealed a large intracardia

Uterine rhabdomyosarcoma is exceedingly rare. The treatment strategy has evolved from aggressive local control with upfront surgery followed by radiation to a more conservative approach with chemotherapy followed by additional treatment pending response, which is outlined in a recent consensus statement from the International Soft-Tissue Sarcoma Consortium. We present a case of a 2-year-old with intermediate risk uterine rhabdomyosarcoma. She was treated with a multimodal regimen including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery with abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingectomy, oophoropexy, p

INTRODUCTION: Paratesticular sarcoma is an aggressive malignant tumor of mesenchymal origin. The rhabdomyosarcoma is the most common among children. Rhabdomyosarcoma treatment consists of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Prognosic depends on local recurrence and distant metastasis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We present the case of a 16-year-old male, who in April 2016 underwent right radical orchiectomy surgery by testicular mass rapidly evolving, with pathological results indicating a paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma. The extension study showed a precaval adenopathy suggestive of lymph node

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a highly aggressive cancer that is generally considered a disease of childhood. A vast majority of cases occur in those below the age of 20. Rhabdomyosarcoma can occur in any soft tissue in the body but is primarily found in the head, neck, orbit, genitourinary tract, genitals, and extremities. Prognosis is closely tied to the location of the primary tumor and the extent of metastatic spread. As with most sarcomas, rhabdomyosarcoma has a pattern of hematogenous spread which favors metastasis to the lungs. Other common areas include bone marrows, liver, breasts, and brain. O

Primary pineal rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is extremely rare, and only three cases have been reported so far. Here, we report a case of 12-year-old male who presented with complaints of diplopia and diminution of vision since 15 days. He also had left-sided facial paresis. Magnetic resonance imaging brain revealed a space-occupying lesion in the region of pineal gland. The patient underwent midline suboccipital craniectomy with excision of tumor. Microscopic examination revealed a highly cellular tumor with areas showing small round cells admixed with cells having abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm re
