The auxin conjugate indole-3-acetyl-aspartate affects responses to cadmium and salt stress in Pisum sativum L.

The synthesis of IAA-amino acid conjugates is one of the crucial regulatory mechanisms for the control of auxin activity during physiological and pathophysiological responses. Indole-3-acetyl-aspartate (IAA-Asp) is a low molecular weight amide conjugate that predominates in pea (Pisum sativum L.) tissues. IAA-Asp acts as an intermediate during the auxin degradation pathway. However, some recent investigations suggest a direct signaling function of this conjugate in various processes. In this study, we examine the effect of 100 μM IAA-Asp alone and in combination with salt stress (160 mM NaCl)

Critical role of angiotensin II in excess salt-induced brain oxidative stress of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The detailed role of angiotensin II in salt-exacerbated stroke is unclear. We examined the role of angiotensin II in salt-accelerated stroke of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRSP). METHODS: Salt-loaded SHRSP were orally given the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor blocker candesartan (0.3 to 3 mg/kg per day) and calcium channel blocker amlodipine (1 mg/kg per day), and the effects on stroke (n=61) and brain superoxide were compared between them. We also examined the effect of angiotensin II infusion (200 ng/kg per min) on brain superoxide production

Dietary dimethylglycine sodium salt improves growth performance, liver function, and meat quality of broilers exposed to heat stress.

Heat stress is a major environmental challenge that impairs growth performance, hepatic redox homeostasis, and meat quality in broilers, primarily through oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Dimethylglycine sodium salt (DMG-Na), a methyl donor involved in one-carbon metabolism, is known to regulate redox balance and mitochondrial function, indicating its potential to alleviate heat stress-induced physiological disturbances. This study evaluated the protective effects of dietary DMG-Na on heat stress-induced physiological and metabolic disturbances in broilers. Eight hundred 21-day-

Characterization of the major latex protein gene family and functional analysis of GmMLP9 under salt stress in soybean.

INTRODUCTION: The major latex proteins (MLPs) belong to the Bet v 1/PR-10 protein family, which is widely distributed among in higher plants and crucial for plant growth, hormone signaling, and abiotic stress responses. While MLP genes have been characterized in various plant species, the soybean MLP gene family and its contributions to salt tolerance remain poorly understood. METHODS: In this study, we integrated soybean genomic and transcriptomic data to comprehensively identify MLP family members using bioinformatics approaches. We systematically analyzed their physicochemical properties,

Genome-Wide and GWAS Dissection of Maize Fibrillin Genes Reveals Plastid Regulators of Drought and Salt Stress Tolerance.

Fibrillins (FBNs) are conserved plastid-associated proteins implicated in plant development and abiotic stress responses; however, their roles in maize remain unclear. In this study, through a genome-wide bioinformatic analysis, we identified 14 ZmFBN genes in the maize genome and characterized their phylogeny, chromosomal distribution, gene structure, conserved motifs, and promoter cis-elements. ZmFBN members were grouped into several subfamilies that all retain a conserved PAP_fibrillin domain, whereas the variation in exon-intron organization, motif composition, and regulatory elements sugg

Aconserved salt-stress co-expression network in japonica rice reveals partially dissociated hub gene connectivity and transcriptional induction.

INTRODUCTION: Soil salinity severely compromises rice (Oryza sativa L.) growth and grain yield by disrupting ionic and osmotic homeostasis. Although transcriptome profiling has advanced understanding of salt-stress responses in rice, the conservation of co-expression networks across genetic backgrounds and the relationship between network connectivity and transcriptional induction remain poorly characterized. METHODS: We performed integrated RNA sequencing and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) on three japonica rice varieties under control (0 mM), moderate (85.6 mM), and se

Multi-omics integration maps CHH methylation and gene regulatory networks across heat, drought, and salt stress in rice.

Plant phenotypes arise from complex interactions among genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors. Deciphering the molecular mechanisms responsible for phenotypic variation requires comprehensive multi-omics approaches that integrate diverse genomic, transcriptomic, and environmental datasets. Here, we perform high-throughput phenotyping of rice subspecies cultivars (Nip and 93-11), covering key growth stages under heat, drought, and salt stress. Using the EfficientNet framework, we generate image embeddings for cultivar classification and stress-type identification. Whole-genome bisulfite

Integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis reveals zinc oxide nanoparticles associated modulation of salt stress responses in Glycyrrhiza uralensis.

The depletion of wild Glycyrrhiza resources has made artificial cultivation essential; however, soil salinization severely limits the yield and quality of G. uralensis. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) exhibit promising potential in phytoremediation, yet their regulatory mechanisms under salt stress remain unclear. In this study, Glycyrrhiza uralensis was used to investigate the effects of salt stress and the modulating effects of ZnO NPs. Our results showed that ZnO NPs application enhanced salt accumulation in Glycyrrhiza uralensis while maintaining photosynthetic performance and root grow

Cloning and functional characterization of OsERFSR1, a negative regulator of salt stress tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.).

Salt stress is one of the major abiotic factors limiting rice growth, development and yield. In this study, a member of the AP2/ERF transcription factor family, OsERFSR1, was cloned from rice. Overexpression of OsERFSR1 (OE) significantly reduced salt tolerance, with survival rates of 53.2% compared with 70.2% in wild-type (WT) plants, whereas CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout (ko) markedly enhanced salt tolerance, with survival rates of 54.6% compared with 28.2% in WT, suggesting that OsERFSR1 acts as a negative regulator of salt stress tolerance. Physiological analyses revealed that, under salt

Salt stress and the wheat curl mite (Aceria tosichella) infestation reprograms barley nitrogen metabolism via nitric oxide signaling.

Salinity (NaCl) and wheat curl mite infestation profoundly alter nitric oxide (NO) metabolism in barley, with NaCl dose-dependent responses indicating that nitrogen metabolism is fine-tuned through NO-signaling pathways. Nitric oxide (NO) serves as a multifaceted regulator in plants' responses to environmental stress, acting as both a signaling molecule and a protective agent, while also exhibiting potential harmful effects. Our study investigated NO metabolism in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants under salinity (50 mM and 100 mM NaCl) and wheat curl mite (WCM) infestation, exposed to either

S-nitrosylation of PTP1 positively regulates MPK6 activity in response to salt or cold stress in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Nitric oxide (NO), an essential signaling molecule, greatly affects how plants respond to salinity or cold stress. It can impact specific protein activity via S-nitrosylation. We found that protein tyrosine phosphatase 1 (PTP1) participates in the response of Arabidopsis thaliana (A. thaliana) to both high-salt and freezing conditions. NO facilitated PTP1 S-nitrosylation at cysteine (Cys)-41, resulting in increased salt tolerance and altered sensitivity to freezing. Additionally, this process reduced the dephosphorylation activity of PTP1 and activated mitogen-activated protein kinase 6 (MPK6)

Genome-wide analysis of the FBA gene family in soybean and their expression profile under salt-alkali stress.

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolases (FBAs; EC 4.1.2.13) are core enzymes involved in glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, and the Calvin cycle, exerting vital functions in carbon allocation, plant growth and development, as well as the adaptation to abiotic stresses. Although the FBA gene family has been systematically characterized in a variety of plant species, a comprehensive characterization of FBAs in soybean (Glycine max) remains unreported to date, restricting the elucidation of the conserved and legume-specific functions of GmFBA genes in stress adaptation. In the present study, a total of 13

Divergent Biochemical Strategies and Organ-Specific Metabolic Adjustments in Spinach Mediated by Exogenous Amino Acids Under Salt Stress.

Understanding the physiological and biochemical responses of spinach to salt stress through amino acid supplementation is crucial for improving crop resilience under increasing soil salinity conditions. Salt stress represents one of the most severe abiotic constraints limiting vegetable crop productivity worldwide, yet comprehensive studies examining organ-specific metabolic reprogramming across entire plant systems remain limited. However, knowledge about how different amino acids mediate these responses through distinct metabolic pathways is limited. We investigated mineral nutrition, antiox

The EkSLK2-EkAACT regulatory module enhances drought and salt stress resistance in Euphorbia kansui by promoting triterpene synthesis.

Drought and salt stress are critical limiting factors for plants growth, development, and geographical distribution. Currently, plants have formed a variety of regulatory mechanisms to cope with these stresses. SEUSS protein is a transcription regulator involved in responses to multiple abiotic stresses via biomolecular condensation. Nevertheless, due to complexity of the protein function and regulatory mechanism in response to drought and salt stress, the function of SEUSS protein in plants still require further exploration. In this study, a SEUSS-LIKE gene EkSLK2 was isolated from Euphorbia

Label-Free Proteomics Reveals the Response of Oat (Avena sativa L.) Seedling Root Respiratory Metabolism to Salt Stress.

Soil salinity is among the crucial factors influencing agricultural productivity of crops, including oat. The respiratory metabolic pathways are of great significance for plants to adapt to salt stress, but current research is limited and there are few reports on salt-tolerant crops such as oat, which is necessary to conduct in-depth research. In this study, we conducted a pot experiment to determine the effects of salt stress on oat root growth and respiratory metabolism. Three salt stress levels-control (CK), moderate, and severe-were applied to compare the salt tolerance of the salt-toleran

Exogenous H2S regulates growth, and antioxidative defense in tomato seedings in a concentration dependent manner under salt stress.

H2S is a lipophilic gaseous molecule with the characteristic pungent "rotten egg" odour. Studies have shown that H2S at lower concentrations acts as a gasotransmitter, providing evidence for its crucial role in plant growth, development and stress responses. The present work underlies the effects of moderate and high concentrations of NaCl stress and two concentrations of NaHS (H2S donor) on certain metabolic signatures of tomato seedlings. In this study, tomato seedlings were grown under different NaCl concentrations (0 mM, 40 mM, 80 mM and 120 mM) and three concentrations of H2S, i.e. T0 (0

Hypoglycemic Mechanism of the Berberine Organic Acid Salt under the Synergistic Effect of Intestinal Flora and Oxidative Stress.

Both alterations to the intestinal microflora and chronic systemic inflammation predispose towards type 2 diabetes (T2D). Changes in the composition of the intestinal microflora are associated with glucose metabolism changes in rats with T2D. Here, we demonstrate that a berberine fumarate (BF) has a hypoglycemic effect by regulating the intestinal microflora and metabolism of diabetic rats. The T2D rats had disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism, an abnormal intestinal microflora, fewer butyrate-producing and probiotic-type bacteria, larger numbers of potentially pathogenic and sulfate-redu

Approaches in modulating proline metabolism in plants for salt and drought stress tolerance: Phytohormones, mineral nutrients and transgenics.

Major abiotic stress factors such as salt and drought adversely affect important physiological processes and biochemical mechanisms and cause severe loss in crop productivity worldwide. Plants develop various strategies to stand healthy against these stress factors. The accumulation of proline (Pro) is one of the striking metabolic responses of plants to salt and drought stress. Pro biosynthesis and signalling contribute to the redox balance of cell under normal and stressful conditions. However, literature is meager on the sustainable strategies potentially fit for modulating Pro biosynthesis

Dietary nitrate attenuates oxidative stress, prevents cardiac and renal injuries, and reduces blood pressure in salt-induced hypertension.

AIMS: Reduced bioavailability of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) is a central pathophysiological event in hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. Recently, it was demonstrated that inorganic nitrate from dietary sources is converted in vivo to form nitrite, NO, and other bioactive nitrogen oxides. We tested the hypothesis that dietary inorganic nitrate supplementation may have therapeutic effects in a model of renal and cardiovascular disease. METHODS AND RESULTS: Sprague-Dawley rats subjected to unilateral nephrectomy and chronic high-salt diet from 3 weeks of age developed hypertension

GTP cyclohydrolase I/BH4 pathway protects EPCs via suppressing oxidative stress and thrombospondin-1 in salt-sensitive hypertension.

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are both reduced and dysfunctional in hypertension that correlates inversely with its mortality, but the mechanisms are poorly understood. Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) critically regulates EPC mobilization and function but is uncoupled in salt-sensitive hypertension because of the reduced cofactor tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4). We tested the hypothesis that GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCH I), the rate-limiting enzyme of BH4 de novo synthesis, protects EPCs and its function in deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt mice. EPCs were isolated from periphera
