Primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma: a rare primary pulmonary tumor.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary sarcomas overall are very uncommon and comprise only 0.5 % of all primary lung malignancies. The diagnosis is established only after sarcoma-like primary lung malignancies and a metastatic extrathoracic sarcoma have been excluded. Synovial sarcoma accounts for ~8 % of soft-tissue sarcomas. Synovial sarcoma arising from the pleura has rarely been reported. METHODS: We report a case of a 58-year-old woman who complained of right-sided chest pain and shortness of breath. Chest CT scan revealed a large heterogeneous mass, occupying most of the right hemithorax. Histologic

Pathological fracture of femur secondary to infected synovial sarcoma.

Pathological fracture is not uncommon in musculoskeletal oncological surgical practice. When complicated by infection, it is both limb- threatening and life-threatening problem. Pathological fractures require urgent investigation, not urgent treatment. We present the case of a 75-year-old man who presented with an infected sarcoma causing a pathological fracture of his right femur.

Chronic synovitis after synovial sarcoma resection: a case report.

We present a diagnostic course and treatment of synovial sarcoma in a young 16-year-old male patient. The clinical course with special emphasis on the imaging techniques is presented here, providing an overview of this subject and offering a useful educative material. The course of the follow-up is also described, largely relying on MRI in diagnosis course. Changes in the synovial tissue of the knee were recorded, later to be classified as the sarcoma. Post-operative course suggested the existence of chronic synovitis. Further studies are needed to fully understand the changes that may affect

Primary mediastinal synovial sarcoma: a report of 2 cases.

Synovial sarcoma is the third most common histological type of extremity soft tissue sarcoma. However, primary mediastinal synovial sarcoma is extremely rare. We present 2 cases of unresectable primary mediastinal synovial sarcoma. The radiographic imaging of our present cases was characteristic of a heterogeneously enhancing mass. They were treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, there was complete obstruction of esophagus resulting from progressive diseases. The radiographic findings and treatment were discussed.

Submandibular synovial sarcoma with t(X;18) and synovial sarcoma of the toe with additional cytogenetic abnormalities: presentation of two cases and review of the literature.

We report cytogenetic findings from fine-needle aspiration samples of two synovial sarcoma patients. The cases are of interest because (1) one case is of a rare site (submandibular region) of the head and neck, and (2) the other is a patient with synovial sarcoma of the toe showing additional cytogenetic abnormalities along with t(X;18). The literature of this tumor is reviewed.

A rare intraosseous synovial sarcoma of the mandible: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Synovial sarcoma is a relatively common high-grade soft-tissue sarcoma. This lesion accounts for 5-10 % of soft-tissue sarcomas, which tend to appear in the limbs, especially the lower limbs. Synovial sarcoma in the neck is rare and causes involvement of the head and neck in 6-7 % of cases. Intraosseous involvement of the mandible is rare. In this report, a rare intraosseous synovial sarcoma of the mandible is reported. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 29-year-old man with a complaint of painless outgrowth of the gingiva in the posterior region of the left mandible. In the intraoral exam

Synovial sarcoma of the dorsal aspect of the hand: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Synovial sarcoma is a rare soft tissue sarcoma, with incidences of 0.81/1,000,000 in children and 1.42/1,000,000 in adults. It is most commonly found in soft tissue and rarely in bone. It often has a slow growth pattern and a benign radiologic appearance. CASE PRESENTATION: This study reports a case of metacarpal synovial sarcoma occurring in the hand-wrist of a 32-year-old Iranian man presented with the chief complaint of a lump on the dorsal ulnar side of his left hand and wrist. Initially, the first physician suspected the case to be a ganglion cyst. After two months of conserv

Synovial Sarcoma of the Hypopharynx in a Filipino Female: A Case Report.

Synovial sarcoma of the hypopharynx is an uncommon malignancy, with less than 100 cases reported in available journals. We report a case of a 22-year-old female presenting with dysphagia and enlarging hypopharyngeal mass, clinically diagnosed as hypopharyngeal malignancy, right, at least stage III. Histopathologic examination including immunohistochemistry study with TLE1 and SS18 Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) confirm the diagnosis of synovial sarcoma. This is the first reported case of synovial sarcoma of the hypopharynx in the Philippines confirmed by SS18 FISH. Due to the size o

Primary Synovial Sarcoma of the Nasopharynx in a Case-Case Report.

Synovial sarcoma (SS) is a rare malignant tumor with bidirectional differentiation potential in epithelial and mesenchymal tissues and is a more chemosensitive subtype of soft tissue sarcoma. It occurs around the synovial soft tissues of large joints of the extremities and rarely in the nasopharynx. We present a young man with recurrent left-sided nasal congestion with nosebleeds, confirmed by immunohistochemistry and cytogenetic examination as SS. SS is easily misdiagnosed, and the tumor should be considered in the differential diagnosis, with surgery combined with radiotherapy as the primary

A case of primary pleural synovial sarcoma with endobronchial recurrence.

Primary pleural synovial sarcoma (PPSS) is an extremely rare malignancy without a known cause. The diagnosis is made after excluding metastasis from an extra-thoracic sarcoma. We report a case of a 67-year-old gentleman who presented with an incidental finding of a left lung mass on a routine chest X-ray. A computed tomography (CT) of the thorax and whole-body positron emission tomography (PET)-CT was done confirming a left lung mass with no other extra-thoracic involvement. A lobectomy was performed with a diagnostic and therapeutic intent. The histopathological examination and immunohistoche

Clinical and strategic outcomes of metastatic synovial sarcoma on limb.

OBJECTIVE: Synovial sarcoma (SS) is one of the most frequent malignant soft-tissue tumors, and nearly 65% arise in the lower extremities. Survival prediction and the risk factors of the patients are poorly understood. Thus, this study examined the survival and prognostic variables of metastatic limb SS (LSS). METHODS: Clinical data of LSS patients with metastasis at the presentation from 1975 to 2017 were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database program database. Kaplan-Meier method was used to describe the survival curves. Univariate and multivariate Cox regress

Synovial sarcoma mimicking a traumatic pseudoaneurysm in the upper extremity.

Synovial sarcomas are a rare but aggressive malignancy that primarily affects young patients. Diagnosis is often difficult and delayed due to its insidious onset, heterogenous presentation and mimicry of other pathologies. We present the case of a patient with a history of a slow-growing left arm mass that arose after a traumatic fracture of the humerus. Multimodal imaging was undertaken and reported the mass as being consistent with a vascular malformation of the brachial artery. The patient underwent surgical repair of the artery and intraoperative biopsies confirmed a diagnosis of synovial

Synovial Sarcoma of the Digits: A Case Report of an Unplanned Excision.

Synovial sarcoma is a rare occurrence in the lower extremity, although the presenting symptoms can mimic those of other more common and benign musculoskeletal pathologies. We present the case of a patient who was originally thought to have a Morton's neuroma or ganglionic cyst. The correct diagnosis, synovial sarcoma, was determined only after an unplanned excision. Despite the patient presenting with symptoms similar to those of a compressive neuropathy, a high index of suspicion should be present when a patient presents with any soft tissue mass, especially if it has an unusual clinical appe

Pericardial synovial sarcoma: a case report and review of the literature.

Primary pericardial synovial sarcoma is a rare disease. We herein report a case of synovial sarcoma that originated in the epicardium. A 13-year-old male visited our hospital with a fever and chest pain. Copious pericardial effusion and a large intrapericardial tumor were detected. An open-chest tumor resection was performed. A solid nodular tumor was observed in the pericardial cavity. The tumor was a polypoid mass that was pedunculated and grew from the inner surface of the pericardium near the origin of the SVC and ascending aorta. Histologically, the tumor cells were uniformly spindle shap

Primary monophasic synovial sarcoma of the pleura: diagnosis and treatment.

Synovial sarcomas are uncommon soft tissue malignancies that usually affect the extremities in the vicinity of large joints. The recognition of this tumor in an unexpected site, such as the pleura, is often difficult and the monophasic variant of synovial sarcoma is often mistaken for some other spindle cell tumor. In this report, we describe a very rare case of primary monophasic synovial sarcoma of the pleura treated with radical surgery.

Pericardial synovial sarcoma of the heart; is it always worth operating?

Synovial sarcoma is a rare malignant soft-tissue tumor that most commonly occurs in the extremities of young adults. Primary pericardial synovial sarcoma is extremely rare. We report the case of a 37 year old male patient who presented with intermittent fever, nocturnal sweating and asthenia. Chest X-ray revealed an enlarged cardiac silhouette. Echocardiography identified pericardial effusion and a mass compressing the right ventricle. After percutaneous drainage of the effusion, the mass was not visible and deemed to have been septations of the effusion. Chest computed tomography (CT) did not
