The role of social schema in the experience of auditory hallucinations: a systematic review and a proposal for the inclusion of social schema in a cognitive behavioural model of voice hearing.

UNLABELLED: The interpersonal nature of the voice-hearing experience has been highlighted in recent studies investigating whether social processes (or 'schemas') that guide interpersonal interactions also govern the relationship between voice hearer and voice. A systematic literature review of relevant studies was undertaken, including those that investigated how social processes interact with appraisals of voices, as well as affective and behavioural responding to voices. The review included 13 studies published between 2000 and 2010. Two well-replicated findings emerged from the review. Firs

The CBT of delusional disorder: the relationship between schema vulnerability and psychotic content.

This paper reports the process, interventions, and outcome of the cognitive-behavioural therapy of a patient who had a diagnosis of delusional disorder. The clinical features, process of therapy, and successful outcome are all discussed in relation to explanatory information processing models of delusion development and maintenance, and recent developments in formulation-driven CBT of delusions. The implications for therapy, service development, and training are discussed. Beliefs that mediate the relationship between core schemas and delusions may form a helpful focus for early therapeutic en

Schema modes as mechanisms of change in treating borderline personality disorder: A model replication study.

OBJECTIVE: Schema modes have been theorized and tested as mechanisms of change in the treatment of personality disorders. We investigated whether schema modes also function as mechanisms of change in borderline personality disorder (BPD) treatment. METHOD: Data from 494 patients (N = 68 male, N = 426 female) with borderline PD who participated in an international randomized clinical trial on effectiveness of two group schema therapy formats vs treatment as usual were analyzed. Granger Causality was tested partially replicating the model predicting PD severity as derived in Yakın et al. (2020)

Metacognitive interpersonal therapy for co-occurrent avoidant personality disorder and substance abuse.

Many patients with substance abuse problems present with co-occurrent cluster C personality disorders. Focusing on both disorders disrupts the maintenance mechanisms and the vicious cycle between the 2 conditions; however, treatment teams often neglect this issue. In this work, we describe the features of metacognitive interpersonal therapy as applied to a man with avoidant and depressive personality disorders and heroin, cocaine, and alcohol abuse. Psychotherapy proceeded through the following steps: (a) conducting drug therapy to deal with symptoms of abstinence from heroin; (b) forming a th

Validation of a Brief Internet-Based Self-Report Measure of Maladaptive Personality and Interpersonal Schema: Confirmatory Factor Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Existing digital mental health interventions mainly focus on the symptoms of specific mental disorders, but do not focus on Maladaptive Personalities and Interpersonal Schemas (MPISs). As an initial step toward considering personalities and schemas in intervention programs, there is a need for the development of tools for measuring core personality traits and interpersonal schemas known to cause psychological discomfort among potential users of digital mental health interventions. Thus, the MPIS was developed. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study are to validate the MPIS by com

Drunkorexia Among a Sample of Lebanese Adults: The Role of Early Maladaptive Schemas.

Background: Drunkorexia is a food and alcohol disturbance described as being a range of disordered and compensatory eating behaviors that co-occur with excessive alcohol consumption. The remarkable correlation, highlighted in the literature, between dysfunctional cognitions and both eating disorders and substance use disorders is able to emphasize that cognitive phenomena can be an intrapersonal factor linked to drunkorexia disorder. The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between early maladaptive schemas (EMSs) and drunkorexia among a sample of Lebanese adults.Method: We conducte

Core beliefs and narcissistic characteristics among eating-disordered and non-clinical women.

OBJECTIVES: Narcissism is a personality trait that can interfere with the application of evidence-based therapies for the eating disorders, influencing collaboration and the patient's willingness to take responsibility for participating in change. In order to understand and work with this personality characteristic, it is important to understand the cognitions that underpin the traits concerned. DESIGN: This study examined the associations between schema-level core beliefs and narcissism in eating disorders. Narcissism was conceptualized in terms of both its core element (entitlement and gran

Sexual Self-Schema Scale for Women-Validation and Psychometric Properties of the Polish Version.

INTRODUCTION: The sexual self-schema is a part of a broader concept of the self that is believed to be crucial for intrapersonal and interpersonal sexual relationships. AIM: To develop and perform psychometric validation of the Polish version of the Sexual Self-Schema Scale for Women (SSSS-W-PL). METHODS: 561 women 18 to 55 years old were included in the final analysis. Linguistic validation was performed in 4 steps in line with the MAPI Institute guidelines. Convergent validity was calculated using the Pearson r product-moment coefficient between different measures of sexuality (attitudes a

Sociocultural Implications in the Development of Early Maladaptive Schemas in Adolescents Belonging to Sexual and Gender Minorities.

Culture is a central theme across various theories and disciplines, influencing behavior and self-perception through interactions within social groups, families, and legal systems. This influence extends to the general population and particularly impacts sexual and gender minorities (SGMs), resulting in minority stress that contributes to mental health issues and the development of Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMSs). Adolescents within these groups face typical developmental stressors-such as hormonal changes and societal pressures-compounded by prejudice, increasing their vulnerability to depre

Young people's trauma-related cognitions before and after cognitive processing therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder.

OBJECTIVES: Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a psychotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with a broad evidence base. Change in trauma-related cognitions is considered its primary working mechanism. When trying to integrate a traumatic event into existing cognitive schemas, the adaptive mechanism is changing the schema (accommodation). However, PTSD patients frequently either change their schemas too much (over-accommodation), or cognitively distort the event (assimilation). We aimed to test the hypothesized connections between the three types of cognition and symptom load.

Substance abuse and personality disorders in homeless drop-in center clients: symptom severity and psychotherapy retention in a randomized clinical trial.

This study evaluated the psychiatric symptoms, psychosocial problems, and treatment response of personality-disordered substance abusers receiving services within a homeless drop-in center. Fifty-two homeless clients were assessed after program admission and randomly assigned to receive either individual psychotherapy focused on personality disorder and substance abuse relapse prevention (dual-focus schema therapy [DFST]) or standard group substance abuse counseling (SAC). Client functioning was assessed using measures of personality disorder, psychiatric symptoms, early maladaptive schemas, i

In Their Voices: Perceptions of Individuals Who Perpetrated Child Sexual Abuse About the INSIGHT Program.

Literature suggests that psychological interventions for individuals who perpetrated child sexual abuse (CSA) can be improved. Qualitative approaches are particularly valuable in this context, as they provide deeper insights into individual experiences and therapeutic processes, thereby informing the refinement of such interventions. Thus, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine men convicted of CSA, who had completed a newly developed, structured, and manualized individual program based on schema therapy (i.e. the INSIGHT), delivered either in prison or in the community in Portuga

Rituximab in severe skin diseases: target, disease, and dose.

New clinical indications for rituximab seem to appear every day. This review will trace the use of this monoclonal antibody from lymphoid malignancy, to classic autoimmune disease, and specifically severe autoimmune skin diseases. The history leading to different dosing schema with associated pharmacokinetic data will be discussed. A case of livedoid vasculopathy (atrophie blanche) responding to rituximab will illustrate how the response to therapy can help to elucidate previously obscure pathophysiology.

Auditory Cueing of Pre-Learned Skills and Role of Subcortical Information Processing to Maximize Rehabilitative Outcomes Bridging Science and Music-Based Interventions.

Auditory entrainment of motor function is a fundamental tool in neurologic music therapy with many studies demonstrating improved clinical outcomes in people with movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, acquired brain injuries, and stroke. However, the specific mechanisms of action within neural networks and cortical regions that are aroused and influenced by auditory entrainment still need to be identified. This paper draws from some contemporary neuroscience studies that indicate the role of the cerebellum and other subcortical systems in modulating pre-learned motor schema and propo

Acute exacerbations complicating interstitial lung disease.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this review is to provide an update on acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (AE-IPF), with a specific focus on new data regarding the cause, clinical features, management and prognosis of AE-IPF. In addition, the limitations of the current definition of AE-IPF are discussed and a novel classification schema is proposed. RECENT FINDINGS: AE-IPF occurs in up to 15% of IPF patients annually and has a mortality of approximately 50%. The incidence of AE-IPF is higher in patients with worse lung function and may be increased in some populations. Eme

Palliative radiation therapy for symptomatic advance breast cancer.

In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of palliative breast radiation therapy (RT), with single fraction RT compared with fractionated RT. Our study showed that both RT fractionation schemas provide palliation. Single fraction RT allowed for treatment with minimal interference with systemic therapy, whereas fractionated RT provided a more durable palliative response. Due to equivalent palliative response, at our institution we have increasingly been providing single fraction RT palliation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

[Cognitive-behavioral therapy for treatment of social anxiety disorder].

There is good evidence for the effectiveness of exposure-based cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of social anxiety disorder (SAD). In this article, the Clark's cognitive model of SAD is presented, followed by the description of general CBT strategies, such as the shift from internal to external attention and the correction of anticipatory/postevent processing. Typical schemata in SAD and comorbid avoidant personality disorder are then illustrated, along with schema-focused approaches. Finally, a four-step CBT for SAD is suggested.

Next-Generation Sequencing Reporting Practices among the Genomics Organization for Academic Laboratories Institutions: Current State and Opportunities for Harmonization.

Tumor next-generation sequencing (NGS) is widely used to refine diagnosis and identify therapy targets. However, reporting criteria, schemas, and formats vary greatly, which can affect uniformity of clinical cancer care. With the aim of promoting harmonization, the current state of NGS reporting practices was profiled across Genomics Organization for Academic Laboratories members. The assessment included a group landscape analysis to refine topics followed by a survey of member laboratories and post-survey discussions. A total of 28 surveys covering hematology and/or solid tumor panels from 21
