BACKGROUND: The purpose of our study was to assess intraocular pressure control (IOP) and postoperative complications in nonpenetrating very deep sclerectomy (NPVDS) with reticulated hyaluronic acid implant (SKGEL) and Mitomycin C (MMC).

PURPOSE: The evaluation of postoperative results of the non-penetrating deep sclerectomy in primary open angle glaucoma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: From September 1999 to October 2000 the procedure was performed in 10 patients (15 eyes). There were 7 men and 3 women aged from 45 to 87 years. Preoperative IOPs ranged from 16 to 38 mm Hg. The follow up time ranged from 3 to 12 months.

A new intervention for neovascular glaucoma is suggested: submuscular decompression multisclerectomy with collagen implant impregnated with 5-fluorouracyl. Immediate and remote (up to 2.5 years) results in 29 patients were analyzed. Intraoperative complications were observed in 24.1% cases: vitreous prolapse in 13.8% and hyphema in 10.3%.
