Development and Validation of The Agonistic Continuum Scale (TACS).

Sexual violence includes a wide variety of behaviors, ranging from harassment to coercion, to rape, to sexual homicide. Although the criminal justice system distinguishes these forms of sexual violence, several studies have suggested that they represent different degrees of severity of an underlying continuum, named the Agonistic Continuum. Such model proposes that sub-categories of sexual violence share a core, unifying construct. The aim of the present study was to develop and test the psychometric properties of a new Agonistic scale. Classical test theory, exploratory factor analyses, taxom

Association of Victimization by Sex among Public Facing Bus and Subway Transit Workers, New York City.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Federal data indicate that assaults on transit workers resulting in fatalities or hospitalizations tripled between 2008 and 2022. The data indicated a peri-pandemic surge of assault-related fatalities and hospitalizations, but assaults with less dire outcomes were not recorded. In collaboration with the Transport Workers Union, Local 100, we conducted an online survey in late 2023 through early 2024 of New York City public-facing bus and subway workers that focused on their work experiences during the 2020-2023 period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Items for this analysis on victimization included

The Extent and Nature of Autistic People's Violence Experiences During Adulthood: A Cross-sectional Study of Victimisation.

This study investigated the extent and nature of violence experiences reported by autistic adults. Autistic (n = 118) and non-autistic (n = 110) adults completed a questionnaire about their experiences of sexual harassment, stalking and harassment, sexual violence and physical violence since the age of 15. Autistic adults reported higher rates of all violence types, multiple forms of violence and repeated instances of the same type of violence. Typical gender differences in the patterns of violence (more physical violence reported by men and more sexual violence reported by women) were apparen

Adversity during military service: the impact of military sexual trauma, emotional bullying and physical assault on the mental health and well-being of women veterans.

INTRODUCTION: Despite making up about 11% of the UK military, there remains limited investigation on the impact of adversity women experience during their service in the UK military. Military adversity can result in a range of well-being difficulties that may persist following transition out of military. The present study therefore examined the prevalence and correlates of different types of military adversity (defined as sexual harassment, sexual assault, emotional bullying and physical assault) within a community sample of UK women veterans. METHODS: Participants were recruited from a UK ch

A Latent Class Approach to Understanding Associations between Sports Participation, Substance Use, Dismissive Attitudes, and Sexual Violence Perpetration among High School Athletes.

Sexual violence (SV) among adolescents continues to be a major public health concern with numerous consequences. Research, predominantly with male collegiate samples, has suggested an association between sports participation and SV perpetration, and has included other important risk factors such as substance use and attitudes. However, more research is needed in this area among adolescents. The current study uses latent class analysis (LCA) to examine data- driven classes of high school student athletes (N = 665) engaged in three risk factor areas for SV: sport contact level, likelihood of sub

Meaningful military engagement among male and female post-9/11 veterans: An examination of correlates and implications for resilience.

OBJECTIVE: Post-9/11 military deployment is commonly reported as stressful and is often followed by psychological distress after returning home. Yet veterans also frequently report experiencing meaningful military engagement (MME) that may buffer detrimental effects of military stressors. Focusing on the under-investigated topic of association of MME with post-deployment psychological adjustment, this study tests gender differences in MME and post-deployment outcomes. METHOD: This cross-sectional study examined the relationship of MME with deployment stressors, subsequent psychological distre

Depressive and Anxiety Symptoms Among Asian American Sexual and Gender Minoritized Youth Experiencing SOGIE- and Race-Based Bullying: A Multivariate Analysis of the Role of Social Support.

Asian American sexual and gender minoritized youth (SGMY) experience unique patterns of emotional distress in part linked to harassment based on their multiple marginalized identities, leading to elevated rates of depressive and anxiety symptoms. This paper examined the modifying associations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) family support, teacher support, and therapy attendance in relation to depressive and anxiety symptoms among Asian American SGMY. Using a national sample of Asian American SGMY (N = 1335) between the ages 13-18 (M age = 15.80, SD = 1.54), this stud

The Impact of Relationships Within Combat Units on Post-Deployment Suicide Risk.

Multiple deployment factors may affect suicidality in combat veterans. The relationships between combat deployments and suicidality are complex and not completely understood. Studies of stress in the military and psychological effects of military actions are mostly focused on stressors relating to combat operations. However, many studies suggest that interactions within combat units affect post-deployment psychiatric conditions, suicidal ideation, and behavior. The goal of this article is to review and discuss how relationships within combat units may influence post-deployment suicide risk. St

Discrimination, Abuse, Harassment, and Burnout in Surgical Residency Training.

BACKGROUND: Physicians, particularly trainees and those in surgical subspecialties, are at risk for burnout. Mistreatment (i.e., discrimination, verbal or physical abuse, and sexual harassment) may contribute to burnout and suicidal thoughts. METHODS: A cross-sectional national survey of general surgery residents administered with the 2018 American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination assessed mistreatment, burnout (evaluated with the use of the modified Maslach Burnout Inventory), and suicidal thoughts during the past year. We used multivariable logistic-regression models to assess the a

Sexual Misconduct Policies in Secondary Schools: A Mixed-Method Analysis of In-Person and Online Behaviors and Consequences.

BACKGROUND: As students' use of mobile devices during school hours continues to increase, cyberbullying and online sexual harassment now occur during school hours, on school grounds via personal devices. Despite this growing reality, there is little knowledge about secondary school efforts to address it. METHODS: To understand what is needed to construct or reform policies that reflect students' online experiences, we used a mixed method approach to identify and analyze language (e.g., definitions, disciplinary measures) in sexual misconduct policy documents from a large, representative sampl

The Association of Teen Pregnancy and Violence: A Multilevel Study in Colombia.

BACKGROUND: Colombia has a high teen pregnancy (TP) rate. In 2018, one in five pregnancies was from teen mothers between 10 and 19 years of age. While TP rates are declining globally, Colombia's TP rate decline has been particularly low, despite sexual education and contraception campaigns. Other factors must be studied to prevent TP. Colombia has a long history of violence. We aim to assess whether there is a relationship between TP and exposure to violence in Colombia. METHODS: Data from the Colombian Demographic and Health Survey 2015 and the Colombian National Department of Statistics wer
