OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to compare apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values from diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) among normal salivary glands, cases with sialadenitis and cases with pleomorphic adenoma of major salivary glands.
METHODS: 22 patients (totalling 44 major salivary glands) diagnosed with either unilateral sialadenitis (on either parotid or submandibular gland) or parotid gland pleomorphic adenoma were selected. Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease is a rare systemic diseases. A 67-year-old male presented at our institution with mild upper abdominal pain and jaundice for 20 d. Minor salivary glands have an important role in the physiology and pathology of the oral cavity though they have been neglected at times. Smoking has a direct effect on the palatal minor salivary glands, and their most common presentation is stomatitis nicotina. We report a case of ulceration in the palatal salivary gland presented with intermittent heavy bleeding from the lesion.

During a 9-year period from October 2002 to October 2011, 561 patients with swelling in the submandibular gland (n=474) and parotid gland (n=87) were successfully studied using sialendoscopy, and the features and pathological changes of the duct evaluated and recorded. Abnormalities were noted in 552/561 cases (98%), and normal features in 9 (2%). The pathological changes in 467 submandibular glands were identified both endoscopically and radiographically, and endoscopic findings showed 3 types: sialolith (n=423, 91%), mucus plug (n=15, 3%), and stenosis (n=29, 6%). OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical outcome of patients treated surgically for chronic parotid sialadenitis.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study of patients whose clinicopathologic information had been collected prospectively onto a dedicated head and neck database.
METHODS: Between 1987 and 2006, a total of 75 patients had 78 parotidectomies, 17 superficial and 61 near-total, to treat chronic parotid sialadenitis. The clinicopathologic data including treatment morbidity and outcome were analyzed.

Thymic hyperplasia with lymphoepithelial sialadenitis-like features (LESA-like TH) is a rare benign thymic lesion sometimes associated with autoimmune diseases or mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. OBJECTIVES: To establish an inflammation grading system for radioactive iodine-induced sialadenitis (RAIS) based on spiral computed tomography (CT), ultrasonography and sialography.
METHODS: In all, 120 RAIS patients (18 males and 102 females) were retrospectively included. Spiral CT, ultrasonography and sialography appearances were analysed and categorized as follows: grade I, approximately normal or mild sialadenitis; grade II, moderate sialadenitis; and grade III, severe sialadenitis. Adenitis severity was analysed relative to sex, age, RAI treatment sessions and cumulative doses.

BACKGROUND: Chronic sclerosing sialadenitis is a fibroinflammatory disease of the salivary glands, characteristically of the submandibular gland. One prior Asian study proposed that chronic sclerosing sialadenitis is a part of the spectrum of IgG4-associated disease. This association has not been confirmed in Western populations. We therefore, investigated the relationship between IgG4 and chronic sclerosing sialadenitis, and compared the histomorphologic features of this condition with those of chronic sialadenitis-not otherwise specified, Sjögren syndrome, and lymphoepithelial sialadenitis.
