Gonococcal polyarthritis with sternoclavicular joint involvement in pregnant woman: a case report.

Pregnancy is one of conditions that increase the risk of gonococcal arthritis which result from blood dissemination of neisseria gonorrhoeae. A 20-year-old africain female patient (in the second trimester of pregnancy), was admitted to hospital because of fever, asymmetric joint swollen affecting the hands, wrists, left ankle, and right sternoclavicular joint. Laboratory findings (erythrocyte sedimentation rate was 117 mm in first hour, The serum C-reactive protein level was 152 mg/L) the gram stain of genital sample was positif of neisseria gonorrhoeae and trichomonas vaginalis. With antibiot

[Short-term effectiveness of reconstructive locked plate for treating sternoclavicular joint dislocation].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the short-term effectiveness of reconstructive locked plate for treating sternoclavicular joint dislocation. METHODS: Between February 2008 and February 2012, 11 patients with sternoclavicular joint dislocation were treated with reconstructive locked plate, and the clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. There were 7 males and 4 females, aged 30-55 years (mean, 44 years). The causes of injury included traffic accident in 8 cases and crashing in 3 cases. The disease duration ranged from 2 hours to 11 days (median, 6 days). All patients had anterior dislocation of

Sternoclavicular joint involvement in psoriatic arthritis: a hidden indicator of disease severity.

OBJECTIVES: Sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) involvement in PsA is poorly characterized. We aimed to assess its prevalence and clinical associations in a longitudinal PsA cohort. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed prospectively collected data from the Gladman Krembil Psoriatic Arthritis Program. Patients with SCJ involvement (tender and/or swollen SCJ) were identified, and their demographic, clinical, laboratory and treatment details were retrieved. Univariable and multivariable generalized estimating equation models were used to assess associations with clinically swollen SCJ. Results are repo

IgG4-Related Disease Inflamatory Pseudotumor Affecting the Sternoclavicular Joint: A Clinical Challenge.

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a rare, progressive, and immune-mediated fibroinflammatory disorder that primarily affects middle-aged men and is more prevalent in Asian populations. Although extensively studied, its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood. This case report describes a 44-year-old male presenting with multiple abscesses and progressive inflammatory symptoms, ultimately diagnosed with IgG4-RD with musculoskeletal involvement. Imaging and histopathological evaluation confirmed osteolytic lesions and significant IgG4-positive plasma cell infiltration. Soft tissue tumors

Innominate artery pseudoaneurysm from a Salter-Harris fracture of the sternoclavicular joint.

Fractures and dislocations of the sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) are uncommon, accounting for <5% of all shoulder girdle injuries. They are relatively more common in the pediatric population than in the adult population and can often present concurrently as a posteriorly displaced medial clavicular dislocation with a fracture through the unfused physis. It is especially important to recognize this injury, because its management and potential sequelae are very different from those for fractures of the clavicle shaft. This type of injury frequently requires closed or open operative management beca

Septic arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint: A unique late complication after tracheostomy.

BACKGROUND: Septic arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint is a rare infection associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Several risk factors for septic arthritis have been reported in the literature ranging from immunodeficiency to intravenous drug use. CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old male previously treated for synchronous squamous cell carcinomas of the epiglottis and floor of mouth presented with tenderness and swelling of the sternoclavicular joint two months after tracheostomy decannulation. Computed tomography and bone scans confirmed the diagnosis of septic arthritis of th

A Case of Isolated Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of the Sternoclavicular joint: A Rare Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (SEP) is a rare proliferative clonal plasma cell disease. However, its occurrence in the sternoclavicular joint region has not yet been reported. Owing to the complex anatomical structure of this area and the lack of specific clinical manifestations, early diagnosis is challenging, and it is often misdiagnosed as other common bone and joint diseases. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 62-year-old male patient with a 2-month history of progressive swelling and pain in the left sternoclavicular joint. Upon admission, elevated levels of i

Evaluation of the range of motion of scapulothoracic, acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joints: State of the art.

The scapulothoracic, acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joints play a fundamental role in the shoulder function. Shoulder complex kinematics have been studied with different methods using: goniometers, 2 static radiographs, 3D motion analyzers (invasive or noninvasive) and digital inclinometers. Goniometers have been used traditionally to assess scapular rotation in relation to the thorax. The intrinsic limit of multiple static two-dimensional shoulder radiographs is the attempt of describing in two what is occurring in three dimensions. Technology innovations have led to the development o

Septic arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint in a patient with human immunodeficiency virus infection.

Septic arthritis is an unusual manifestation in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The sternoclavicular joint is rarely affected, although it should be considered in immunosuppressed patients and users of intravenous drugs. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common pathogen detected and should be covered by empiric antibiotic therapy.

Ipsilateral sternoclavicular joint anterior dislocation with fracture of the mid shaft of the clavicle.

Even though fractures of the clavicle are very common but fracture of the shaft of clavicle associated with sternoclavicular joint dislocation is extremely rare. This is a case report of a 50-year old woman who met with a road accident. Radiographs revealed right mid shaft clavicle fracture with inferior angulation of fracture fragments, anterior dislocation of sternoclavicular joint. The sternoclavicular joint was stabilized with sutures whereas the midshaft fracture was managed non-operatively. In postoperative period the sternoclavicular joint was found stable whereas the shaft clavicle uni

Evaluation of the Sternoclavicular Graft for the Reconstruction of Temporomandibular Joint After Gap Arthroplasty.

INTRODUCTION: Ankylosis may be defined as the fusion of the articular surfaces with bony or fibrous tissue. The treatment of temporomandibular joint ankylosis poses a significant challenge because of the high incidence of recurrence. A number of interpositional materials have been used including alloplastic materials (acrylic, proplast-teflon, silastic), and autogenous tissues (temporalis muscle flaps, buccal fat pad, dermis, costochondral grafts, metatarsal, fibula, tibia, iliac crest, cranial bone and Sternoclavicular graft SCG and cartilage). Literature suggests that rather than growth cent

Bilateral sternoclavicular joint dislocation due to sternal fracture: Is it a dislocation or a separation?

Traumatic bilateral sternoclavicular joint dislocation is very rare injury. In shoulder girdle injuries, anterior dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint accounts for 3 % and posterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation is lesser. Previous reported cases about bilateral sternoclavicular joint dislocation were result from proximal clavicle fracture with intact connection between sternum and ribs. But, the sternoclavicular joint dislocation secondary to fracture and angulation of the sternum with intact relationship between ribs and clavicle has not been reported. Authors experienced patient w

A 'safe' surgical technique for stabilisation of the sternoclavicular joint: a cadaveric and clinical study.

In symptomatic patients with recurrent anterior sternoclavicular dislocation, surgery may be required to stabilise the joint. Posterior sternoclavicular dislocations may also require open reduction and stabilisation due to the complications that may arise. We present a new, 'safe' technique of surgical stabilisation of the sternoclavicular joint that is not technically demanding and does not require exposure of the first rib, as is often the case in other methods described. The repair was tested in cadavers before being employed in three patients and was found to be effective under both static

Is there a relation between loss of shoulder external rotation and sternoclavicular joint disorders?

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Scapulothoracic movements are essential in shoulder kinematics and can partially compensate  stiffness and loss of motion of glenohumeral joint. The scapulothoracic movement is strictly dependent on the translation and rotation of the clavicle at the sternoclavicular joint (SCJ), this being the only true joint between the axial and the upper appendicular skeleton.  Aim of the study is to define a possible correlation between loss of shoulder external rotation following surgery for anterior shoulder instability and long-term sternoclavicular joint disorders. METHODS: A grou
