The transobturator suburethral tape procedure is emerging as a preferred surgical option in the management of stress urinary incontinence. This procedure, also called tension-free vaginal tape transobturator (TVT-O) procedure, has fewer risks of injury to the bladder, similar effectiveness, and shorter surgery duration compared with the older tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure. In this study, we report the case of a female patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus who developed emergency ketoacidosis and severe cellulitis after a TVT-O procedure, which was successfully managed without sling

This study compared the incidence, duration, and predictors of early postoperative voiding dysfunction (VD) after three continence operations. Charts of women undergoing tension-free vaginal tape (TVT), Burch, or suburethral sling were reviewed. Early postoperative VD was defined as urinary retention or postvoid residual (PVR) >200 ml at discharge. Analysis of variance, Chi-square, and non-parametric tests were used. Sixty-three TVT, 42 Burch and 33 slings were identified. Incidence of VD with TVT, sling, and Burch was 50, 24, and 15%, respectively ( P<0.001), and the mean number of days of po

UNLABELLED: Tension free vaginal tape is a minimally invasive surgical procedure for urinary incontinence treatment. Urethral erosion is an uncommon complication which presents in around 0.9% of the cases after the procedure.
CASE: Female of 68-year-old with an urodynamic diagnosis of type II stress urinary incontinence treated surgically with a tension free vaginal tape in February 2003 without any intraoperative complications. In the post-op she had acute urinary retention for one week, needing a transurethral catheter. Three months after surgery she reported dysuria, hematuria, frequency a

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Autologous alternatives to non-absorbable synthetic slings are needed for the surgical treatment of women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Hamstring tendon (HT) autografts-gracilis (GT) and semitendinosus (STT)-are widely used in orthopedic ligament reconstruction. The use of STT as a mid-urethral sling (MUS) has been previously described. This cadaveric study was aimed at comparing the morphometric characteristics of GT and STT harvested through a minimally invasive anterior knee approach and to assess whether their length is sufficient for suburethral plac

INTRODUCTION: Changes in surgical practice patterns to cure stress urinary incontinence (SUI) became evident after FDA warnings regarding vaginal mesh were issued. The primary aim was to describe nationwide numbers of suburethral alloplastic slings (SAS) inserted in 2010, 2015, 2018 and 2021 in Germany. Secondary, numbers were related to SUI specific non-alloplastic alternatives and bulking agents. Additionally, age distribution and overall inpatient surgeries in women were subject to analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive study utilizing data gathered from the German Federal Statistica

PURPOSE: Management for urinary incontinence in boys with sphincteric incompetence secondary to a neurogenic etiology is a challenge. Minimally invasive approaches have inconsistent efficacy and may require multiple treatments. Open bladder neck reconstruction requires inpatient hospitalizations and can be associated with a high complication rate. To overcome some of these shortcomings we placed a polypropylene male perineal sling in male adolescents with neurogenic sphincteric incontinence. We retrospectively reviewed the outcome in our initial 6 patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six patients

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The suburethral sling procedure has been widely used as the first-line treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. Although the success rate is high, difficult urination and urine retention can occur in a small portion of patients. A transvaginal sling incision can solve this problem but recurrent SUI may occur. This study investigated the long-term outcomes of women who underwent the pubovaginal sling (PVS) procedure and subsequent transvaginal sling incision for urethral obstruction.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the voiding conditions of wo

AIM: To study the incidence of erosions and tape infections following the use of intravaginal slingplasty (IVS) treatment for stress urinary incontinence after the SUSPEND trial period of 30 months. This subanalysis was carried out because of concerns regarding high percentage of delayed sling erosions and infections during follow up of the patients who participated in the trial.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The subanalysis patient group consisted of all IVS patients drawn from the SUSPEND randomised control trial that compared the safety and efficacy of three types of suburethral slings, TVT, SPAR

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this article is to review the year's literature on the treatment of female incontinence with suburethral slings.
RECENT FINDINGS: The use of slings to treat female stress urinary incontinence has had resurgence with new surgical techniques. The tension-free vaginal tape created in 1996 was the basis of most of the studies performed over the past year. The device was compared with more traditional surgical techniques as well as new techniques such as the trans-obturator tape. In addition the tension-free vaginal tape was examined in women with pelvic organ prolaps

Pelvic floor dysfunctions in women result in problems of urinary and/or anorectal incontinence, prolapse and sexual dysfunction. Their treatment is physiotherapeutic to begin with and then, possibly, surgical: colposuspensions, suburethral sling placements, intraurethral injections of a bulking agent, cystorectocele cures, sacrospinal fixations or laparoscopic promonto-fixations. The results using an endovaginal and vulvar "rejuvenation" laser need to be confirmed. Neuromuscular rehabilitation of the pelvic floor is the first therapeutic procedure to be performed. On the other hand, research i

INTRODUCTION: The synthetic mid-urethral slings are currently considered to be the most widely used technique for the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The most challenging aspect of the existing approaches is to achieve the optimal tension of the sling which treatment results are directly dependent on. To solve this problem, sling systems enabling an adjustment of the tension in the early postoperative period were created. A comparative study of the effectiveness and safety of such a system and a nonadjustable sling seems to be a relevant task.
