Spectroscopy of Spin-Split Andreev Levels in a Quantum Dot with Superconducting Leads.

We use a hybrid superconductor-semiconductor transmon device to perform spectroscopy of a quantum dot Josephson junction tuned to be in a spin-1/2 ground state with an unpaired quasiparticle. Because of spin-orbit coupling, we resolve two flux-sensitive branches in the transmon spectrum, depending on the spin of the quasiparticle. A finite magnetic field shifts the two branches in energy, favoring one spin state and resulting in the anomalous Josephson effect. We demonstrate the excitation of the direct spin-flip transition using all-electrical control. Manipulation and control of the spin-fli

Watch-sized 12 Tesla all-high-temperature-superconducting magnet.

We demonstrate the construction of 7 Tesla and 12 Tesla all high-temperature-superconducting (HTS) magnets, small enough to fit on your wrist. The size of the magnet reduces the cost of fabrication, decreases the fringe field to permit facile siting of magnets, and decreases the stored energy of high field magnets. These small HTS-based magnets are being developed for gyrotron microwave sources for use in high-field nuclear magnetic resonance applications. The 7 Tesla and 12 Tesla magnets employ a no-insulation winding technique and are cooled to 4.2 Kelvin in a liquid helium cryostat. The 7 T

Superconducting Valve Exploiting Interplay between Spin-Orbit and Exchange Interactions.

We theoretically investigated the proximity effect in SNSOF and SF'F structures consisting of a superconductor (S), a normal metal (NSO), and ferromagnetic (F',F) thin films with spin-orbit interaction (SOI) in the NSO layer. We show that a normal layer with spin-orbit interaction effectively suppresses triplet correlations generated in a ferromagnetic layer. Due to this effect, the critical temperature of the superconducting layer in the SNSOF multilayer turns out to be higher than in a similar multilayer without spin-orbit interaction in the N layer. Moreover, in the presence of a mixed type

Multi-qubit phase gate on multiple resonators mediated by a superconducting bus.

We propose a one-step scheme for implementing multi-qubit phase gates on microwave photons in multiple resonators mediated by a superconducting bus in circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) system. In the scheme, multiple single-mode resonators carry quantum information with their vacuum and single-photon Fock states, and a multi-level artificial atom acts as a quantum bus which induces the indirect interaction among resonators. The method of pulse engineering is used to shape the coupling strength between resonators and the bus so as to improve the fidelity and robustness of the scheme. We als

Coherent microwave-photon-mediated coupling between a semiconductor and a superconducting qubit.

Semiconductor qubits rely on the control of charge and spin degrees of freedom of electrons or holes confined in quantum dots. They constitute a promising approach to quantum information processing, complementary to superconducting qubits. Here, we demonstrate coherent coupling between a superconducting transmon qubit and a semiconductor double quantum dot (DQD) charge qubit mediated by virtual microwave photon excitations in a tunable high-impedance SQUID array resonator acting as a quantum bus. The transmon-charge qubit coherent coupling rate (~21 MHz) exceeds the linewidth of both the trans

Mechanism for the Structural Transformation to the Modulated Superconducting Phase of Compressed Hydrogen Sulfide.

A comprehensive description of crystal and electronic structures, structural transformations, and pressure-dependent superconducting temperature (Tc) of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) compressed from low pressure is presented through the analysis of the results from metadynamics simulations. It is shown that local minimum metastable crystal structures obtained are dependent on the choice of pressure-temperature thermodynamic paths. The origin of the recently proposed 'high-Tc' superconducting phase with a modulated structure and a diffraction pattern reproducing two independent experiments was the low

Predicted Pressure-Induced Superconducting Transition in Electride Li_{6}P.

Electrides are unique compounds where most of the electrons reside at interstitial regions of the crystal behaving as anions, which strongly determines its physical properties. Interestingly, the magnitude and distribution of interstitial electrons can be effectively modified either by modulating its chemical composition or external conditions (e.g., pressure). Most of the electrides under high pressure are nonmetallic, and superconducting electrides are very rare. Here we report that a pressure-induced stable Li_{6}P electride, identified by first-principles swarm structure calculations, beco

Superconducting H5S2 phase in sulfur-hydrogen system under high-pressure.

Recently, hydrogen sulfide was experimentally found to show the high superconducting critical temperature (Tc) under high-pressure. The superconducting Tc shows 30-70 K in pressure range of 100-170 GPa (low-Tc phase) and increases to 203 K, which sets a record for the highest Tc in all materials, for the samples annealed by heating it to room temperature at pressures above 150 GPa (high-Tc phase). Here we present a solid H5S2 phase predicted as the low-Tc phase by the application of the genetic algorithm technique for crystal structure searching and first-principles calculations to sulfur-hydr

Van Hove Singularities, Superconductivity, and the Josephson Diode Effect in NiTe_{2} and PdTe_{2}.

Superconductivity in the transition-metal dichalcogenide PdTe_{2} has been attributed to the proximity of a three-dimensional Van Hove singularity to the Fermi level. In isostructural NiTe_{2}, recently used as the weak link in a Josephson diode, a similar Van Hove singularity has been predicted to occur, but superconductivity is mysteriously absent. Using bulk-sensitive soft x-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we reveal that this Van Hove singularity lies even closer to the Fermi level in NiTe_{2} than in PdTe_{2}. To explain the lack of superconductivity in NiTe_{2}, we perform

Type-II Dirac Fermions in Monolayer In2O: Interplay of Magnetotransport, Spin Hall Effect, and Superconductivity.

Topological quasiparticle excited states, magnetotransport, spin Hall effect, and superconductivity in solid-state materials have consistently been the four key issues in condensed matter physics. In this work, we theoretically demonstrate that monolayer In 2 O ${\rm In}_2{\rm O}$ provides an effective platform to explore these intertwined phenomena through its unique electronic topology. First-principles calculations reveal a type-II Dirac point near the Fermi level of the electronic band structure of monolayer In 2 O ${\rm In}_2{\rm O}$ , which is split into two pairs of Weyl points wi

Repulsive-Interaction-Driven Topological Superconductivity in a Landau Level Coupled to an s-Wave Superconductor.

A two-dimensional topologically nontrivial state of noninteracting electrons, such as the surface state of a three-dimensional topological insulator, is predicted to realize a topological superconductor when proximity-coupled to an ordinary s-wave superconductor. In contrast, noninteracting electrons partially occupying a Landau level, with Rashba spin-orbit coupling that lifts the spin degeneracy, fail to develop topological superconductivity under similar proximity coupling in the presence of the conventional Abrikosov vortex lattice. We demonstrate, through exact diagonalization, that intro

Dual Instability of Superconductivity from Oxygen Defects in La_{3}Ni_{2}O_{7+δ}.

We uncover a dual mechanism by which oxygen defects suppress superconductivity in the bilayer nickelate La_{3}Ni_{2}O_{7+δ} using density functional theory, dynamical mean-field theory, and functional renormalization group analysis. Apical vacancies and interbilayer interstitials emerge as the dominant low-energy defect species and are further stabilized by orthorhombic domain walls. These two defect classes drive the electronic structure in opposing directions. Vacancy-induced disorder generates local magnetic moments and promotes Anderson localization at moderate concentrations, whereas peri

Tunable Mirror-Symmetric Type-III Ising Superconductivity in Atomically-Thin Natural Van der Waals Heterostructures.

Van der Waals (vdW) crystals with strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) provide great opportunities for exploring unconventional 2D superconductors, wherein new pairing states emerge due to the interplay of SOC with crystalline symmetries, electronic correlations, quenched disorders and external modulation forces, etc. Here, a distinct mirror-symmetry protected Ising pairing state with unprecedented Γ- and M-valley symmetries in natural vdW heterostructures (vdWH) of interweaving tetragonal SnSe and trigonal 1H-TaSe2 monolayers is reported, in which the unidirectional lattice interlocking effective

Dual-guest-metal control of stability and superconductivity in ambient-pressure B-C clathrates X0.5Y0.5B2C8.

Phonon-mediated superconductivity in boron-carbon clathrates has become an active area of research, but how mixed guest-metal occupancy affects stability and superconductivity is still unclear. Using high-throughput first-principles calculations, we study quaternary X0.5Y0.5B2C8 clathrates (X, Y = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba) at ambient pressure. We identify 15 dynamically stable phases, all involving combinations of two large-radius guest metals. Fourteen of these phases are predicted to be superconducting: compounds with an average formal oxidation state at the metal sites of +1.5

Interplay of strong correlations and superconductivity in 4Hb-TaS2: a natural van der Waals heterostructure.

Van der Waals heterostructure materials provide a versatile platform for tuning electronic properties by stacking different two-dimensional layers. Among them, 4Hb-TaS2is a naturally occurring van der Waals heterostructure composed of alternating layers of 1T-TaS2and 1H-TaS2. In this review, we comprehensively discuss the emergence of multicomponent superconductivity, time-reversal symmetry breaking, the Kondo effect, and the magnetic memory effect in this system, highlighting how these phenomena arise due to the coexistence of the two distinct structural phases. We particularly emphasize the

Reversible Tuning of Magnetic Order and Intrinsic Superconductivity in Strained FeTe Films via Stoichiometry Control.

FeTe is a prototypical parent compound of iron-based superconductors. While bulk FeTe is nonsuperconducting with a long-range bicollinear antiferromagnetic order, superconductivity has been achieved in thin films. However, the approaches usually involve complex oxygen incorporation or interfacial effects, the microscopic mechanisms of which remain elusive. Here, we prepare high-purity, bare FeTe thin films on SrTiO3 using molecular beam epitaxy and investigate their magnetic and superconducting states combining both microscopic and macroscopic characterizations. By reducing the interstitial Fe

Intertwined Superconductivity and Orbital Selectivity in a Three-Orbital Hubbard Model for the Iron Pnictides.

We study a three-orbital Hubbard-Kanamori model relevant for iron-based superconductors using variational wave functions explicitly including spatial correlations and electron pairing. We span the nonmagnetic sector from filling n=4, which is representative of undoped iron-based superconductors, to n=3, where a Mott insulating state with each orbital at half filling is found. In the strong-coupling regime, when the electron density is increased, we find a spontaneous differentiation between the occupation of d_{xz} and d_{yz} orbitals, leading to an orbital-selective state with a nematic chara

Metal-bonded perovskite lead hydride with phonon-mediated superconductivity exceeding 46 K under ambient pressure.

In the search for high-temperature superconductivity in hydrides, a plethora of multi-hydrogen superconductors have been theoretically predicted, and some have been synthesized experimentally under ultrahigh pressures of several hundred GPa. However, the impracticality of these high-pressure methods has been a persistent issue. In response, we propose a new approach to achieve high-temperature superconductivity under ambient pressure by implanting hydrogen into lead to create a stable few-hydrogen binary perovskite, Pb4H. This approach diverges from the popular design methodology of multi-hydr

Superconductivity of Co-Doped CaKFe4As4 Investigated via Point-Contact Spectroscopy and London Penetration Depth Measurements.

The iron-based superconductors (IBSs) of the recently discovered 1144 class, unlike many other IBSs, display superconductivity in their stoichiometric form and are intrinsically hole doped. The effects of chemical substitutions with electron donors are thus particularly interesting to investigate. Here, we study the effect of Co substitution in the Fe site of CaKFe4As4 single crystals on the critical temperature, on the energy gaps, and on the superfluid density by using transport, point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy (PCARS), and London penetration depth measurements. The pristine co

Tunable Superconductivity and Möbius Fermi Surfaces in an Inversion-Symmetric Twisted van der Waals Heterostructure.

We theoretically study a moiré superlattice geometry consisting of mirror-symmetric twisted trilayer graphene surrounded by identical transition metal dichalcogenide layers. We show that this setup allows us to switch on or off and control the spin-orbit splitting of the Fermi surfaces via application of a perpendicular displacement field D_{0} and explore two manifestations of this control: first, we compute the evolution of superconducting pairing with D_{0}; this features a complex admixture of singlet and triplet pairing and, depending on the pairing state in the parent trilayer system, ph
