The use of transthoracic echocardiography to detect the presence of thymic tissue has been reported in patients at risk for graft versus host disease. We confirmed the accuracy of this method in patients with tetralogy of Fallot and tetralogy of Fallot/pulmonary atresia, and suggest using a threshold distance of 6.1 cm/m2 (5.5 to 6.3 cm/m2).

This study was based on 7 children aged 20 months to 13 years with tetralogy of fallot (TOF) and tricuspid valve defects. Cases of endocardial cushion defects (8 cases of atrioventricular) were excluded. Three types of tricuspid valve defect were observed: 4 tricuspid valve prolapse (with one associated mitral valve prolapse); 2 accessory tricuspid valves passing through a ventricular septal defect to prolapse in diastole under the aortic valve; 1 Ebstein anomaly. The prevalence of tricuspid valve defects associated with TOF 3 p. 100 in this series. The diagnosis can: usually be made by 2D ech

Two rare patients are reported with tetralogy of Fallot and congenital aortic valvar stenosis. The anatomic and developmental interrelationship between tetralogy of Fallot and truncus arteriosus is summarized. A study of 100 randomly selected postmortem cases of tetralogy revealed aortic valve pathology in 8%, myxomatous aortic valve leaflets without stenosis in 4%, bicuspid aortic valves without stenosis in 3%, and congenital aortic valvar stenosis in 1%. The frequency of systemic semilunar valve pathology in truncus was much higher (66%): moderate to marked myxomatous change in 44%, mild myx

INTRODUCTION: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common malformation from birth. The severity of the different forms of CHD varies extensively from superficial mild lesions with follow-up for decades without any treatment to complex cyanotic malformations requiring urgent surgical intervention. One of the most common severe forms of CHD is tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), characterized by a misalignment of the canal septum leading to a deviation of the aorta to the right. microRNAs (miRs) are crucial in cardiac development, giving rise to possible phenotypes in CHD.
AIM: We aimed to evaluat

Neurodevelopmental sequelae are prevalent and debilitating for patients with congenital heart defects. Patients born with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) are susceptible for abnormal neurodevelopment as they have several risk factors surrounding the perinatal and perioperative period. Some risk factors have been well described in other forms of congenital heart defects, including transposition of the great arteries and single ventricle heart disease, but they have been less studied in the growing population of survivors of TOF surgery, particularly in infancy and childhood. Adolescents with TOF, eve

INTRODUCTION: Modified Blalock-Taussig shunt (BT shunt) is a palliative operation used for cyanotic heart diseases with decreased pulmonary blood supply. The definitive management of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is total corrective surgery, but these patients can be palliated with BT shunt. In the modern world, the BT shunt is getting out of favour in patients with TOF. In this article, we will share our 5-year experience at our institute, which also shows a decreasing trend.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: It is a retrospective study. Files of all the patients admitted in our department from January 2019

BACKGROUND: Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) is a cyanotic congenital heart disease, composed of four malformations: persistent communication between the right and the left ventricle, pulmonary stenosis, overriding aorta, and right ventricle hypertrophy. The etiology of this disease is not entirely known as yet, but it has been proposed that the pathology has genetic components. During embryonic development, the fetus is exposed to a physiological hypoxia to facilitate the formation of blood vessels and blood cells through de novo processes.
METHODS: After researching scientific databases on the imp

Surgery for tetralogy of Fallot has a long history, which may be described as both a success story and a failure story. It is a success story because prognosis without surgery is very poor, but surgery makes it possible for affected babies to reach adulthood and lead productive lives. It is a failure story, however, since we still cannot cure this condition; we can only palliate it as illustrated in the sobering long-term outcome of affected patients. In this review article, we aim to explore the reason for this failure. This may be summed up in terms of the nature of the obstruction to the ri

Introduction: Advancements in surgery and management have resulted in a growing population of aging adults with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). As a result, there has been a parallel growth in late complications associated with the sequelae from the underlying cardiac anomalies as well as the surgical and other interventional treatments.Areas covered: Here, we review challenges related to an aging population of patients with TOF, particularly late complications, and highlight advances in management and key areas for future research. Pulmonary regurgitation, heart failure, arrhythmias, and aortic co

Tetrology of Fallot's (TOF) is the most common cause of cyanotic congenital heart disease, and accounts for 10% of all congenital heart diseases. Right to left shunting and hyperviscosity of blood predisposes these patients to brain abscess. Perioperative management of these patients with uncorrected TOF for noncardiac surgery is a challenge for the anesthesiologists owing to the long-term effects of hypoxia and decreased pulmonary blood flow, resulting in considerable modification of the physiology and neurological complications. We are hereby reporting the anaesthetic management of an 8 year

An 8-year-old, intact male Persian cat was presented with a prominent heart murmur, exercise intolerance, anorexia, and periodontitis. There was no cyanosis and no laboratory evidence for systemic hypoxemia. Echocardiography showed a dextropositioned aorta, moderate pulmonic stenosis (maximal velocity 4.06 m/s), ventricular septal defect, and right ventricular hypertrophy. The shunt direction was predominantly left-to-right in systole and minimally right-to-left in diastole. The cat was diagnosed with acyanotic (pink) tetralogy of Fallot and was managed medically with atenolol.

Most infants with tracheomalacia do not need specific therapy as it usually resolves spontaneously by the age of 1-2 years. Severe forms of tracheomalacia characterized by recurrent respiratory infections require active treatment which includes chest physiotherapy, long term intubation or tracheostomy. Aortopexy seems to be the treatment of choice for secondary and even primary forms of severe tracheomalacia. Itentails tracking and suturing the anterior wall of the aorta to the posterior surface of the sternum. Consequently, the anterior wall of the trachea is also pulled forward preventing it

Although arrhythmias are commonly found in patients with all different types of congenital heart disease, perhaps no patient is at higher risk of late development of arrhythmias that may result in sudden death than in the patient following tetralogy of Fallot repair. Despite major improvement in the surgical repair of this disease, a significant percentage of these patients continue to remain at risk for the late development of arrhythmias, and a small percentage will develop life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden death. Which patients remain at highest risk is still not clearly delineated. D

This presentation will demonstrate the essential features of tetralogy of Fallot in the infant and child before surgery, as well as some noteworthy features in the foetus. The four features, namely, subpulmonary stenosis, ventricular septal defect, aortic override, and right ventricular hypertrophy, can all be easily demonstrated by echocardiography. In addition, morphology of the pulmonary valve and the main and branch pulmonary arteries can be seen. The position of the coronary arteries and the major variants of proximal coronary anatomy can be defined. The arch anatomy and the presence of a

Complete surgical repair of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) around 3 months of age is the commonly undertaken management strategy in many centers and has excellent outcomes. Intervention at an earlier age, including the newborn period, may be required for children with symptoms. Early extubation from mechanical ventilation where possible may help improve outcomes for children undergoing complete repair of TOF.

As a major success story of an early surgical era, corrective surgery transformed the prognosis of patients born with tetralogy of Fallot. With lifelong care, healthy survival well into adulthood is now the norm, albeit somewhat blemished by long-term sequelae. Arrhythmias are an important source of morbidity and a leading cause of mortality. This succinct review provides a contemporary summary of the prevalence and types of arrhythmias encountered in tetralogy of Fallot, including conduction disorders, atrial and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, and sudden death. Current prognostic markers and e
