Management of crown root fracture by interdisciplinary approach.

Fracture of tooth after trauma is distressing to a person because of the discomfort and pain due to pulpal injury. Crown root fractures of anterior teeth cause concomitant periodontal injury and there will be concern about appearance, and aesthetics. Management of pulpal and periodontal tissue relieves pain and restoration of tooth form regains patients confidence. Restoration of fractured tooth will be accepted readily if it is minimally invasive, less expensive, and aesthetically acceptable. Reattachment is an option for restoration of anterior teeth compared to other artificial replacements

Facial Cellulitis of Unusual Odontogenic Origin.

A healthy man in his 40s was referred to the Oral Surgery and Implantology Unit of Geneva University Hospital for diagnosis and management of facial swelling affecting the right side of his lower jaw. The patient's history revealed that the patient had been hit by several punches to the face a few months earlier. To investigate the swelling, an intra-oral radiograph, an orthopantomographic radiograph, and computed tomography were performed, which revealed no fracture of the lower jaw but the presence of a partly impacted fractured wisdom tooth (third molar). This finding, together with the cli

Biological approach for management of anterior tooth trauma: triple case report.

Anterior crown fractures are a common form of injury that mainly affect children and adolescents. The position of maxillary incisors and their eruptive pattern carries a significant risk for trauma. In the pre-adhesive era, fractured teeth needed to be restored either with pin-retained inlays or cast restorations that sacrificed healthy tooth structure and were a challenge for clinicians to match with adjacent teeth. The development of adhesive dentistry has allowed dentists to use the patient's own fragment to restore the fractured tooth. Three cases are presented here with complicated crown

Treatment of a crown-root fracture with intentional replantation - case report with 16-year follow-up.

AIM: To report the intentional replantation of a maxillary central incisor with a crown-root fracture. SUMMARY: An 11-year-old girl was referred to a paediatric clinic with an extensive crown-root fracture of the maxillary right central incisor (tooth 11) with pulp exposure. Radiographs revealed that tooth 11 had a periapical radiolucent lesion, which suggested pulpal necrosis. The treatment option chosen was planned extraction and immediate intentional replantation of tooth 11 in a more coronal position. Sixteen years after treatment, tooth 11 was aesthetically and functionally sound, sugges

Multidisciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of a tooth with two trauma episodes: systematic review and report of a case.

Studies have shown that some children and adolescents are affected only once with dental trauma, while others seem to be accident-prone and suffer from multiple dental trauma episodes. Less is known about treatment consequences related to repeated traumatic dental injuries to the same tooth and treatment guidelines are not well established. Complicated crown fractures and crown-root fractures pose difficulties for dentists to establish adequate treatment plans because these fractures require multidisciplinary knowledge and approach for a correct case planning and prognosis. The objective of th

Intentional Replantation of a Second Premolar with Internal Resorption and Root Fracture: A Case Report.

AIM: This case aims to detail intentional replantation as a last resort to save an otherwise hopeless premolar with perforated internal resorption and root fracture. BACKGROUND: Internal root resorption, progressive destruction of intraradicular dentin, is a condition that sometimes renders a tooth non-restorable. In the rare cases reported where severe internal resorption leads to root fracture, extraction of the tooth seemed to be a common treatment of choice, and a few literatures had reported endodontic surgery as an alternative treatment option. To date, there had been no report of treat

Survival rate of teeth adjacent and nonadjacent to dental implants: A retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the risk of tooth loss for teeth adjacent and nonadjacent to dental implants. METHODS: A total of 787 patients with an average follow-up of 57.1 months were examined to define the tooth loss, cumulative survival rate, and odds ratio (OR) for teeth adjacent versus nonadjacent to implants. A multivariate logistic regression was employed to assess the association between dental history and various recorded etiologies of tooth loss among teeth adjacent to implants. RESULTS: The incidence of tooth loss for teeth adjacent to implan

Multidisciplinary Management of Cervical Horizontal Root Fracture: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Cervical horizontal root fractures (CHRFs), although less common than mid-root fractures, present a significant clinical challenge due to their location near the alveolar crest, compromising tooth stability and complicating treatment. This paper reviews the etiology, classification, diagnosis, and current evidence-based management strategies for horizontal root fractures, and a case report on the management of CHRF is presented. Emphasis is placed on decision-making between conservative, prosthetic, orthodontic, or surgical treatment, and prognosis factors that influence long-term outcomes. Ma

Imaging and management of a caudal mandibular fracture in an immature dog.

Interfragmentary wire surgical technique was used to repair a caudal mandibular fracture in a 15-week-old Labrador Retriever dog. Computed tomographic imaging aided the diagnosis and treatment planning for the application of this method. Abnormal tooth development of caudal molar teeth was related to the traumatic event and/or surgical technique. The strategically important mandibular first molar tooth was maintained. The fracture fixation method used in this case provided early return to function and radiographic evidence of expected fracture healing during a 10-month period despite wire disp

Surgical exposure and crown lengthening for management of complicated fractures of maxillary anterior teeth. A case report.

When a tooth fracture occurs, the fracture line can extend in a variety of directions, and the direction of the fracture line often dictates the treatment plan. In cases where fracture lines extend apical to the gingival margin, exposure of fractured margins becomes necessary. And management of such tooth fractures often requires an interdisciplinary approach involving endodontic, periodontic and restorative procedures. This article describes a case in which severely traumatized maxillary anterior teeth were managed by a combined approach involving surgical exposure and crown lengthening, endo

Regenerative Endodontic Procedures for Traumatized Teeth after Horizontal Root Fracture, Avulsion, and Perforating Root Resorption.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic injury to the teeth can cause horizontal root fractures and inflammatory root resorptions (external and internal). Traditionally, traumatized teeth with horizontal root fractures resulting in pulp necrosis and inflammatory root resorptions are treated with conventional root canal therapy. METHODS: A 15-year-old boy had a history of traumatic injury to mature tooth #8 resulting in horizontal root fracture and pulp necrosis of the coronal fragment. A 7-year-old girl suffered an avulsion injury to immature tooth #9, which developed inflammatory replacement resorption and

Incidental Finding of a Suspected Horizontal Root Fracture During Mucogingival Surgery.

Periapical and bitewing radiographs lack the sensitivity to reliably diagnose horizontal root fractures, and, therefore, asymptomatic teeth with root fractures may remain undetected for years. This article reports a case in which a patient presented with a mucogingival defect on tooth No. 24 with no apparent history of dental trauma. During a free gingival graft procedure, a horizontal root fracture was observed in the apical third of the aforementioned tooth. After the clinician communicated this finding to the patient, the patient recollected two instances of trauma that had occurred to this

Tooth pattern, development, and replacement in the yellow catfish, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco.

Studies of teleost teeth are important for understanding the evolution and mechanisms of tooth development, replacement, and regeneration. Here, we used gross specimens, microcomputed tomography, and histological analysis to characterize tooth structure, development, and resorption patterns in adult Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. The oral and pharyngeal teeth are villiform and conical. Multiple rows of dentition are densely distributed and the tooth germ is derived from the epithelium. P. fulvidraco exhibits a discontinuous and non-permanent dental lamina. Epithelial cells surround the teeth and are
