Harnessing the developmental events of mesenchymal condensation to direct postnatal dental stem cell aggregation represents a cutting-edge and promising approach to tooth regeneration. Tooth avulsion is among the most prevalent and serious dental injuries, and odontogenic aggregates assembled by stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) have proven effective in revitalizing avulsed teeth after replantation in the clinical trial. However, whether and how SHED aggregates (SA) communicate with recipient components and promote synergistic tissue regeneration to support replanted teet

BACKGROUND: Placement of interradicular orthodontic miniscrews poses a potential risk of root damage, including superficial root contact and root fracture. This case report describes the iatrogenic root-injured tooth movement of a 27-year-old male with skeletal Class III malocclusion as nonsurgical orthodontic treatment.
CASE PRESENTATION: An orthodontic miniscrew between the mandibular right first and second molars perforated the distal root of the mandibular first molar. A root fracture was discovered 4 months after miniscrew placement. Owing to the potential risk of ankylosis related to su

Traumatic dental injuries are prevalent among children and adolescents, especially those between 6 and 12 years of age with varying degrees of severity. The complexities of their diagnosis, management and overall prognosis are compounded by their occurrence in combination. International Association of Dental Traumatology guidelines provide a systematic roadmap for the management of isolated dental trauma but the management of a combination of injuries is still left to clinicians' discretion. This case report illustrates the uncommon occurrence of multiple luxation injuries, including avulsion,

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore risk factors for dental intervention in patients presenting to the pediatric emergency department (PED) after dental injury.
METHODS: We retrospectively explored patients aged 0 to 18 years who presented to our PED between 2017 and 2021 after dental injury.
RESULTS: Of the total of 830 patients (mean age 7.1 ± 3.9 years, 589 [71.0%] male patients), 237 (28.5%) required dental intervention. All patients with alveolar fractures and those with involvement of permanent teeth with extrusive luxation mandated urgent dental consultation. Additional independent

A 19-year-old man presented to the plastic surgeons with a wound between his fourth and fifth metacarpophalangeal joints, with associated hand swelling and pain. He admitted to accidentally striking his brother in the mouth the previous evening. His brother reportedly made a hasty exit, and the patient dismissed the wound to his hand until waking up the next morning with swelling, pain and ascending lymphangitis. Radiographs revealed the unusual extent of his 'fight bite' injury with an entire human tooth embedded in his hand. Removal of the tooth and aggressive debridement was performed in th

Dental and dentoalveolar injuries are common in the pediatric population. Management is predicated on the type of tooth injured (primary or permanent), extent of injury, the dental and behavioral age of the patient, and ability of the patient to tolerate treatment. Although many dental injuries occur in isolation, a systematic evaluation of the patient is mandatory to confirm the absence of basal bone fractures of the maxilla or mandible, traumatic brain injury, cervical spine injury, and/or facial soft tissue injury. Long-term follow-up is paramount to achieving a functional occlusion and opt

Natal teeth are teeth present in the oral cavity at the time of birth. It is extremely rare to find natal teeth in association with pathological conditions of the oral cavity. Pyogenic granuloma is a type of inflammatory hyperplasia that appears as an over exuberant connective tissue response to a stimulus or injury, in the present case the injurious agent is the natal tooth. The parents of the eight day old male infant brought the child with a natal tooth associated with a soft tissue lesion growing from the gum pad. A provisional diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma was made on behalf of the clin

Managing defects caused by pathological root resorption in permanent teeth can be challenging. If not diagnosed and treated efficiently, progressive root resorption can result in the loss of a tooth. This paper reports the consequences and treatment of poorly managed dental trauma 3 years ago affecting maxillary central and lateral incisors of an 11-year-old male child. Intraoral periapical radiographs revealed resorption defects involving the cervical, middle and apical thirds of Tooth Numbers 12, 11, 21 and 22 (FDI numbering system). A blunderbuss canal with a wide open apex was also noted i

The purpose of the study was to assess the lifetime prevalence of dental injuries and risk factors involved in a general population-based birth cohort. The study population consisted of 5737 subjects who had participated in a health survey at the age of 31 years. Altogether 52% of the participants were women. This partly computer-based health survey included two questionnaires on previous dental and non-dental injuries, general health, occupational status and lifestyle. The current study was based on these questionnaires. The lifetime prevalence of dental fractures was 43% and the lifetime pre

BACKGROUND: Athletes with disabilities may be at an even greater risk of orofacial trauma than their counterparts, and the risk may vary depending on the type of sports. This study aimed to assess the incidence of sports-related dental injuries and oral health status among Malaysian para-athletes.
METHODS: A questionnaire survey was conducted to assess self-reported dental injuries and knowledge of their management. An intraoral examination was performed using the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index following the World Health Organization guidelines.
RESULTS: A total of 61 para-a

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: The total re-impaction of primary tooth is a very uncommon phenomenon and few cases have been reported in the literature. "Re-Impaction of deciduous tooth " is a rare phenomena involving more often mixed denture than permanent dentition.
CASE PRESENTATION: A completely re-impacted deciduous tooth in an adult patient presented an occlusal tooth decay. The presence of the decay cavity indicated that this tooth had once been erupted. After the removal, the tooth anatomy confirmed that it was deciduous tooth.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION: The etiologies remain diverse but the

This case report describes the consequences of delayed (24 hours) reimplantation of an avulsed maxillary central incisor, findings over a 4-year follow-up period, and the management of ankylosis during facial growth. After a traumatic event, a 10-year-old boy was taken to a hospital emergency department due to injuries to his face, including avulsion of the maxillary left central incisor. Despite the short amount of time before arriving at the hospital (10 minutes) and use of the correct storage medium (milk), the tooth was not reimplanted, and the parents did not receive instructions to seek

Traumatic dental injuries are common, particularly among children and young adults, with maxillary incisors most frequently affected. Injuries occurring during periods of active growth can significantly compromise tooth retention, alveolar development, and long-term esthetics, with physical and psychological consequences. Prompt recognition and management are essential, as outcomes depend heavily on timely intervention and appropriate treatment selection. Management strategies must balance immediate symptom relief with preservation of pulpal and periodontal health and consideration of future g

Trauma to primary teeth may result in direct damage to underlying developing permanent teeth because of the close relationship that exists between the apices of the primary teeth and their permanent successors. Injuries to developing teeth have been classified into ten different categories, using a classification that is largely based on developmental alterations to the permanent teeth. However, this classification does not include other types of trauma that may occur to developing teeth, such as crown fractures. Although apparently rare, such injuries can occur by direct contact of the impact

Severe traumatic injuries to immature teeth often cause damage to periodontal ligament as well as dental pulp; pulp necrosis, root resorption and subsequent apical lesion are common consequences. This article reports the surgical management of an infected immature maxillary central incisor associated with a gigantic periradicular lesion and severe root resorption. The tooth had a history of trauma and the patient suffered from purulent sinus tract and tooth mobility. After unsuccessful multi-session disinfection with calcium hydroxide, root end surgery was planned. During flap surgery and lesi

A brief review of the lingual nerve anatomy is followed by an examination of the consequences of injury to the lingual nerve during mandibular wisdom tooth extraction on sensibility and sensorial activities. The circumstances of such injury are described as a function of the position of the tooth together with means of prevention. The clinical course of injury to the lingual nerve is unpredictable and varies over time and in quality of recovery. No prognosis can be made before a reasonable delay of 18 months to 2 years. Prevention remains the best treatment and consists of using a flexible bar

BACKGROUND: Intrusive luxation, also called central dislocation, is often the result of an axial impact in the apical direction, moving the tooth within the alveolar bone. This is possibly one of the most traumatic injuries, since the displacement of a tooth within its socket implies extensive and acute involvement of the periodontal ligament, bone damage and rupture of the neurovascular bundle. The close relationship between the apexes of the primary teeth and the developing permanent successor in turn can lead to multiple complications, which are greater when the permanent tooth is affected

Intrusion injuries are considered among the most severe forms of dental trauma, potentially leading to ankylosis as a late consequence. In 1991, a 7-year-old boy suffered a traumatic intrusion leading to an infraposition of tooth 21 along with its immobility. Based on the clinical findings, including bright-sounding percussion testing, disappearance of the periodontal space and a failed attempt at orthodontic movement, a diagnosis of ankylosis was made. Following prosthetic restoration of the infrapositioned tooth, spontaneous re-eruption occurred 15 years later. With the help of a partial mul

Intrusion is defined as the axial dislodgment of the tooth into its socket and is considered one of the most severe types of dental trauma. This longitudinal outcome study was undertaken to evaluate clinically and radiographically severely intruded permanent incisors in a population of children and adolescents. All cases were treated between September 2003 and February 2008 in a dental trauma service. Clinical and radiographic data were collected from 12 patients (eight males and four females) that represented 15 permanent maxillary incisors. Mean age at the time of injury was 8 years and 9 mo

We report 3 cases of unusual dental injuries following facial fractures. The first patient sustained intrusion of a maxillary incisor into the nasal cavity following a mandibular fracture. The tooth dislocated into the pharynx and was found lodged in the piriform fossa during surgery. The second patient sustained intrusion of molars into the maxillary sinus following maxillary and mandibular fractures. His treatment was delayed due to life-threatening hemorrhage. The third case involved ingestion of multiple avulsed teeth into the alimentary tract following severe maxillofacial fractures. Alth
