OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that having a scar and a positive tuberculin skin test (TST) response after vaccination with Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is associated with reduced infant mortality.
METHODS: We studied cohorts of 2709 normal-birthweight (NBW) and 1102 low-birthweight (LBW) infants in Guinea-Bissau. Although the tuberculin skin test has long been the standard for detecting latent tuberculosis infection, it has many limitations. OBJECTIVE: To study if different forms of clinical presentation of tuberculosis in children are associated with a different type of tuberculin reaction.
METHODS: This cross sectional study, describing Tuberculin skin testing (TST) responses in 268 children (134 cases and 134 controls) less than 12 yr of age was carried out over a period of 18 months at JIPMER, a tertiary care referral hospital in Pondicherry, India. The qualitative and quantitative TST responses in various clinical forms of Tuberculosis were analysed.

Because there is no tuberculin screening schedule currently recommended for adults, we used a Markov process in a cost-effectiveness analysis to determine an optimal strategy. One-hundred and seventy-two pregnant patients were identified as tuberculin sensitive in the first trimester. These patients were followed throughout pregnancy for any signs or symptoms of active tuberculosis which were discovered only in the index case. Skin testing with antigens from Histoplasma capsulatum, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (PPD-S), and atypical mycobacteria (PPD-B, PPD-G, PPD-Y, and PPD-platy) was carried out among six population groups in the Solomon Islands between 1968 and 1972. AIM: The aim of this study is to interpret purified protein derivative (PPD) induration sizes with respect to the number of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) scars.
METHODS: We have considered 1879 school children between the ages of 7 and 14 years from seven primary schools in Kocaeli, Turkey.
