Ileorectal fistula after resection of perforated sigmoid tumor and Hartmann's procedure with uterine invasion: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal fistulas are rare but serious postoperative complications, particularly when arising between the ileum and rectum. They are typically associated with complex intra-abdominal surgeries, malignancies, or inflammatory conditions. This case report presents a rare instance of ileorectal fistula formation following resection of a perforated sigmoid tumor with uterine invasion and subsequent Hartmann's procedure. CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old Kurdish woman with a history of diabetes mellitus presented with abdominal pain, weight loss, and diarrhea. Imaging revealed

[A Case of Malignant Lymphoma of the Ileum and Uterine Cervix with Perforating Peritonitis of Ileum Tumor Detected during Chemotherapy].

A 77-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of right lower abdominal pain. CT revealed tumors in the ileum and uterine cervix. After a gynecological biopsy of the uterine tumor, we diagnosed Stage Ⅳ diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We treated her with R-THPCOP chemotherapy. On day 8 after the first chemotherapy, she developed perforated peritonitis, and an emergency partial ileum resection was performed. Histopathologically, viable cells were not found in the resected intestine. Chemotherapy was resumed on postoperative day 21, and she achieved a complete response 8 months after the

Prospective comparison of clinical and computed tomography assessment in detecting uterine perforation with intracavitary brachytherapy for carcinoma of the cervix.

Brachytherapy (BT) is an essential component of radical treatment for cervix cancer. Uterine perforation is a potential complication of intrauterine applicator (tandem) insertion. Postprocedure pelvic computed tomography (CT) scans are routinely performed at this center. The objective of this study was to prospectively compare radiation oncologists' (RO) clinical impression of satisfactory tandem placement with actual tandem placement as determined from pelvic CT. Patients with cervix cancer undergoing low-dose rate BT from April 2003 to December 2005 were prospectively identified. After tande

Diagnosis, management and outcomes of incarceration or intussusception of Fallopian tubes following uterine perforation after vacuum aspiration or dilatation and curettage of the uterine cavity: a systematic review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Dilation and curettage and vacuum aspiration are frequently performed gynaecological procedures used to treat uterine pathology. This procedure carries a risk of uterine perforation, which can lead to injury of abdominal organs and, rarely, to fallopian tubes. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate symptoms and diagnostic signs and to propose the most appropriate management for the intussusception and incarceration of fallopian tubes following uterine aspiration and curettage. METHODS: We screened three major databases (Medline, Scopus, Google Scholar) from 2000 to May 2024. Our review examined

Small intestine perforation due to metastatic uterine cervix interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma: a rare manifestation of a rare disease.

Interdigitating Dendritic Cell Sarcoma (IDCS) is an infrequent dendritic cell tumor which mainly affects the lymphatic system. Intestinal metastasis from uterine IDCS is extremely rare. Here we report a case of a 76-year-old female presenting with vaginal bleeding and acute abdomen. The final diagnosis revealed a small bowel perforation due to metastatic involvement from uterine cervix IDCS. In this paper, we report the clinical manifestation, computed tomography and histopathological findings helpful for the accurate diagnosis of this rare tumor.

Ultrasound-guided tandem placement for low-dose-rate brachytherapy in advanced cervical cancer minimizes risk of intraoperative uterine perforation.

OBJECTIVES: Tandem placement as part of low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy boost for cervical cancer may be complicated by uterine perforation. The objective of this study was to describe a 10-year experience of using intraoperative ultrasound guidance in an attempt to minimize the risk of uterine perforation. METHODS: Operative and inpatient records were reviewed to identify cases in which intraoperative ultrasound guidance was employed in order to assist tandem placement, and to determine whether clinical or radiographic findings subsequently suggested uterine perforation. Demographic factor

Trojan horse in obstetric complications: A case report of concurrent uterine perforation, incarcerated fallopian tube and cesarean section scar pregnancy.

RATIONALE: Uterine perforation complicated by incarcerated fallopian tube and cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) constitutes an exceptionally rare and clinically challenging condition. The diagnostic dilemma arises from elevated β-hCG levels combined with parauterine mass formation, which frequently mimics tubal ectopic pregnancy presentation. This case report aims to highlight the critical importance of differential diagnosis in preventing clinical mismanagement of this complex obstetric emergency. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 35-year-old woman (gravida 3, para 2) with recent Dilation and Curettage (D&C)

Intraperitoneal haemorrhage secondary to perforation of uterine fibroid after cystic degeneration. Unusual CT findings resembling malignant pelvic tumor: case report.

Intraperitoneal haemorrhage is a rare complication of myomatous uterus. We present a case of a 37-year-old white nullipara who presented in the emergency room with acute, lower-abdominal pain which reportedly started after riding over a bump on a motorcycle. On examination, the abdomen was diffusely tender, with moderate spasm and rebound tenderness in both iliac fossae. Pregnancy test was negative. Computed tomography revealed a soft-tissue mass with cystic components and inhomogeneous appearance. Free fluid in the peritoneal cavity suggested ascites. The patient underwent an exploratory lapa

Development and validation of a novel scoring system to predict the risk of uterine perforation during intracavitary brachytherapy for cervical cancer.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a novel scoring system for predicting the risk of uterine perforation during brachytherapy (BT) in cervical cancer patients and to stratify patients based on this score to guide the use of ultrasound guidance during BT. METHODS: Fifty patients with uterine perforation during BT between January 2018 and December 2020 were included. Common reasons for perforation were identified and a scoring system was developed. This was then applied to a cohort of 50 patients without perforation. The 2 cohorts were compared using the χ² test. To validate the scoring system,

Multiple uterine perforations during manual vacuum aspiration: the need to increase the clinical awareness of attending healthcare professionals.

BACKGROUND: The risk of uterine perforation during manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) is reduced by using Karman cannula (which has a rounded tip) during the procedure. METHODS: A 35-year-old multigravida at 13 gestational weeks presented with vaginal bleeding of a day duration and ultrasound evidence of retained products of conception suggestive of incomplete miscarriage. The patient was rhesus D positive and stable. She had MVA which was performed using Karman cannula, and developed severe vaginal bleeding. The differential diagnoses were incomplete uterine evacuation and uterine perforation.

Bleeding in the retroperitoneal space under the broad ligament as a result of uterine perforation after dilatation and curettage: Report of a case.

Uterine perforation, a complication of dilation and curettage, is typically recognized immediately after the procedure by clinical symptoms of peritoneal irritation resulting from intraperitoneal bleeding. Our patient complained of having an uncomfortable feeling, slight dizziness, palpitation in the sitting position and abdominal discomfort but did not show signs of peritoneal irritation 24 h after dilation and curettage. However, she suddenly complained of abdominal pain. Tenderness and rebound tenderness were detected at the lower abdominal wall. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imagi

Clandestine abortion resulting in uterine perforation and a retained foreign body led to generalized peritonitis: a case report from Lilongwe, Malawi.

Abortion is criminalized in Malawi in the absence of a life-threatening condition. Consequently, women often undergo unsafe abortions. A large proportion of abortions performed in Malawi require subsequent treatment at a healthcare facility. We describe the case of a 17-year-old who presented with generalized peritonitis and was found intraoperatively to have a necrotic and perforated uterus with a stick retained in her abdominopelvic cavity from a clandestine abortion. This case demonstrates the need for awareness and vigilance among healthcare providers in all specialties to suspect surgical

Hysteroscopy combined with laparoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of omentum majus incarceration secondary to uterine perforation: A case report and literature review.

Cervical dilatation, uterine evacuation, and curettage (D&E&C) are common gynecological procedures for abortion, yet they carry risks of complications such as uterine perforation and intra-abdominal organ incarceration. Here, we report a rare case of a breastfeeding patient who had an embedded abdominal greater omentum in the anterior wall of the uterus and into the uterine cavity during D&E&C. We used combined hysteroscopic and laparoscopic treatment for this case and successfully removed the embedded greater omentum. Our experience underscores the importance of vigilant intraoperative monito

Herniation of fallopian tube through perforated uterine wall during previous first trimester surgical abortion in an infertile patient.

A unique case of fallopian tube herniation into the endometrial cavity after dilatation and curettage is presented. A 28-year-old patient who had secondary infertility for 2 years following dilatation and curettage without any other specific complaint was evaluated by laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. During these procedures, herniation of the right tube and infundibulopelvic ligament into the uterine cavity were observed. The herniation was repaired through a minilaparotomy incision.

Laparoscopic Surgery for Ovarian Cyst Infection with Avoidance of Ureteral Injury and Uterine Perforation following Intrauterine Insemination after Abdominal Modified Radical Trachelectomy.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) sometimes develops after intrauterine insemination (IUI). We herein present a case of PID which developed after IUI performed after abdominal modified radical trachelectomy (AmRT) and was treated with laparoscopic surgery. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of laparoscopic surgery for PID that occurred after AmRT in Japan. A 39-year-old woman who was diagnosed with cervical cancer stage IA1 with lymphovascular invasion underwent AmRT and pelvic lymphadenectomy. At 3 years and 6 months after the surgery, she had fever and pain in her left lower abd
