Distribution of IL-2R and CD45Ro expression on CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of patients with posterior uveitis.

Different lines of evidence support a major role for activated T-lymphocytes in the pathogenesis of posterior uveitis. The initial site of activation of these autoreactive T-cells, either locally in the eye or in the peripheral immune compartment, is still unknown. This study was undertaken to investigate whether with currently available techniques, it is possible to detect alterations in the levels and subsets of activated T-cells in the peripheral blood of patients with posterior uveitis. For this reason, 3-colour immunofluorescent staining was performed to assess the distribution of IL-2 re

Assessment of choriocapillaris and choroidal vascular changes in posterior uveitis using swept-source wide-field optical coherence tomography angiography.

PURPOSE: To evaluate choriocapillaris (CC) and choroidal vascular changes in patients with posterior uveitis using swept-source (SS) wide-field optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). METHOD: Consecutive patients with posterior uveitis were evaluated using 3×3 mm and 12×12 mm OCTA scan patterns and montage images of 5×12×12 mm or 2×15×9 mm, covering approximately 70°-90° of the retina. The images were quantitatively and qualitatively analysed and compared with healthy controls. RESULTS: Eighty-six eyes of 56 patients with posterior uveitis (mean age 45.2±19.9 years; 58.9% female), a

Real-time polymerase chain reaction and intraocular antibody production for the diagnosis of viral versus toxoplasmic infectious posterior uveitis.

PURPOSE: The aim of this work was to determine the diagnostic performance of real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and to assess intraocular specific antibody secretion (Goldmann-Witmer coefficient) on samples from patients with signs of posterior uveitis presumably of infectious origin and to target the use of these two biologic tests in the diagnostic of Toxoplasma/viral Herpesviridae posterior uveitis by the consideration of clinical behavior and delay of intraocular sampling. METHODS: Aqueous humour and/or vitreous fluid were collected from patients suspected of having posterior uv

Spectral optical coherence tomography findings in an adult patient with syphilitic bilateral posterior uveitis and unilateral punctate inner retinitis.

PURPOSE: To describe the spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) features of a punctate inner retinitis, a rare ocular manifestation of syphilis, in an HIV positive adult patient. OBSERVATIONS: In the right eye, SD-OCT images during the active period showed hyperreflectivity of the full thickness of the inner retina, precluding the individualization of the layers. In addition, multifocal areas with higher hyperreflectivity were identified within the affected retina. Once the lesion became inactive, SD-OCT images revealed inner retina layers atrophy, disruption of the ellipsoid l

[Basal uveo-retinitis (peripheral uveitis, chronic posterior cyclitis, pars planitis, vitritis, hyalo-retinitis). and other inflammations of the peripheral retina].

The study of the histological features of the peripheral retina and the observation of this periphery in 149 cases of uveitis of various types has led us to consider these peripheral retinal inflammations as presenting clinically either as a local reaction in this area during the course of anterior and posterior uveitis, manifested by a circular inflammatory condensation of the peripheral vitreous, or as a specific affection related to the periphery. These latter assume two forms: either that of a peripheral chorio-retinitis, or that of a basal uveo-retinitis, a term proposed in place of those

A Case of IgG4-Related Disease Presenting With Concurrent Uveitis, Posterior Scleritis, Serous Retinal Detachment, and Choroidal Thickening Mimicking Intraocular Lymphoma.

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic fibro-inflammatory condition characterized by tumor-like lesions, dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates rich in IgG4-positive plasma cells, and often elevated serum IgG4 levels. Ocular involvement is common, typically affecting the lacrimal glands and extraocular muscles. However, intraocular manifestations such as uveitis and scleritis are less frequent. We report the case of a 66-year-old Japanese man presenting with bilateral uveitis, posterior scleritis, serous retinal detachment, and choroidal thickening, initially mimicking intraocular lymphoma.
