Beyond Reality: Exploring the effect of different virtual reality environments on visual assessment of cakes.

Visual assessment triggers physiological, emotional, and cognitive responses in consumer behavior. This confluence of signals can be influenced by context, which plays a crucial role in eating behavior. The strategies used to evoke scenarios that enhance ecological validity in sensory experiences have evolved in the last years to include immersive technologies and virtual reality (VR) to simulate the complexity of the real world and predict consumer preferences. This study explored VR's effect on visual liking and hedonic responses of five virtual cakes in two virtual contexts designed with ad

Virtual reality and augmented reality- emerging screening and diagnostic techniques in ophthalmology: A systematic review.

In health care, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have been applied extensively for many purposes. Similar to other technologies such as telemedicine and artificial intelligence, VR and AR may improve clinical diagnosis and screening services in ophthalmology by alleviating current problems, including workforce shortage, diagnostic error, and underdiagnosis. In the past decade a number of studies and products have used VR and AR concepts to build clinical tests for ophthalmology, but comprehensive reviews on these studies are limited. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review o

Transforming Experience: The Potential of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality for Enhancing Personal and Clinical Change.

During life, many personal changes occur. These include changing house, school, work, and even friends and partners. However, the daily experience shows clearly that, in some situations, subjects are unable to change even if they want to. The recent advances in psychology and neuroscience are now providing a better view of personal change, the change affecting our assumptive world: (a) the focus of personal change is reducing the distance between self and reality (conflict); (b) this reduction is achieved through (1) an intense focus on the particular experience creating the conflict or (2) an

Three-Dimensional Printing, Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality for Pulmonary Atresia: Early Surgical Outcomes Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Single-stage unifocalisation for pulmonary atresia (PA) with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCA) requires a high degree of three-dimensional (3D) anatomical imagination. A previous study has reported the application of a 3D-printed heart model with virtual reality (VR) or mixed reality (MR). However, few studies have evaluated the surgical outcomes of the 3D model with VR or MR in PA/VSD patients. METHODS: Three-dimensional (3D) heart models of five selected PA/VSD patients were derived from traditional imageology of their hearts. U

Virtual Reality Planning for Mandible Reconstruction: A Case Report.

Mandibular reconstruction with a free fibula flap is considered the gold standard for implant-based prosthodontic rehabilitation. Doing so with presurgical virtual planning has become commonplace, resulting in procedure-specific osteotomy guides and fixation plates, but is limited by a cumbersome user experience. A new virtual reality (VR)-based mandible reconstruction application, ImmersiveRecon, could address these shortcomings. This case report discusses a free fibula-based mandible reconstruction and osseointegrated dental implant placement surgery planned in VR. A 17-year-old man with a h

Challenges in using virtual reality technology for pain relief.

The present paper addresses two issues pertaining to the use of virtual reality (VR). One issue pertains to the equipment utilized. VR technology can be classified into two main categories: Immersive and non-immersive. The immersive type of technology necessitates the use of substantial equipment, yet it is demonstrably efficacious. Furthermore, the efficacy of this approach is enhanced when combined with relaxation and biofeedback techniques. The other issue is that the efficacy of this approach is diminished when applied to chronic pain, in comparison to acute pain. The relief of chronic pai

Investigating Object Translation in Room-scale, Handheld Virtual Reality.

Handheld devices have become an inclusive alternative to head-mounted displays in virtual reality (VR) environments, enhancing accessibility and allowing cross-device collaboration. Object manipulation techniques in 3D space with handheld devices, such as those in handheld augmented reality (AR), have been typically evaluated in table-top scale and we currently lack an understanding of how these techniques perform in larger scale environments. We conducted two studies, each with 30 participants, to investigate how different techniques impact usability and performance for room-scale handheld VR

Novel neurodigital interface reduces motion sickness in virtual reality.

Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-created 3D environment with a focus on realistic scenes and pictures created for entertainment, medical and/or educational and training purposes. One of the major side effects of VR immersion reported in the scientific literature, media and social media is Visually Induced Motion Sickness (VIMS), with clinical symptoms such as disorientation, nausea, and oculomotor discomfort. VIMS is mostly caused by the discrepancy between the visual and vestibular systems and can lead to dizziness, nausea, and disorientation. In this study, we present one potential novel s
