PURPOSE: This study investigated whether resonant voice training would enhance facial bone vibration during resonant voice production.
METHODS: Twelve normal healthy participants undertook four sessions of resonant voice training, each lasted for 30 minutes. Piezoelectric accelerometer was used to measure the vibratory level on the face (nasal bridge and upper lip) and the perilaryngeal area during the production of nasal consonant /m/ and vowels /a/, /i/, and /u/ before and after the resonant voice training. The extents of vibration of these four sounds among these three sites were compared.

INTRODUCTION: The Meige's syndrom is characterized by the presence of bilateral, symmetrical, dystonic cramp of face muscles or muscles of middle line of body, the respiratory muscles and muscles of throat. The etiology of Meige's syndrome is uncertain. The disorders of basal ganglia function and neurotransmitters' imbalance (dopamine and acetylocholine) can be with reason of pronouncement of symptoms presumably.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: Our aim was to introduce a case of 71 years old patient in whom we diagnosed spasmodic dysphonia in course of Meige's Syndrom. Patient has been treated by 3 year

OBJECTIVES: There is currently a lack of objective treatment outcome measures for transgender individuals undergoing gender-affirming voice care. Recently, Bensoussan et al developed an AI model that is able to generate a voice femininity rating based on a short voice sample provided through a smartphone application. The purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility of using this model as a treatment outcome measure by comparing its performance to human listeners. Additionally, we examined the effect of two different training datasets on the model's accuracy and performance when present

BACKGROUND: effectiveness of the sonorous tongue vibration technique (STVT).
AIM: to investigate the sensations and the vocal and laryngeal impact produced by the sonorous tongue vibration technique.
METHOD: The STVT was performed in three sets of fifteen repetitions, in maximum phonatory duration using a normal tone and intensity - with 30 seconds intervals of passive rest between each set. Twenty-four women aged between 20 and 30 years and with no vocal complaints participated in the study. All participants were submitted to a larynx evaluation through videolaryngostroboscopy examination;

To date, a limited number of formal studies have assessed the efficacy of voice therapy for laryngeal nodules. The present study represents a preliminary stage of inquiry in a series of planned studies on this topic. Thirteen women with nodules participated as paid subjects. Some subjects received "confidential voice therapy," some received "resonant voice therapy," and some received no therapy (control condition) over a period of approximately 2 weeks. Pre- and post-therapy measures of phonatory effort, auditory-perceptual status of voice, and laryngeal appearance provided evidence of a benef

OBJECTIVES: Public speaking (PS) is frequently necessary in many professional, educational, and personal settings. Mastering this communication skill is particularly important in today's society. Training techniques for PS have been described in the literature. Given that PS anxiety affects performance, especially voice characteristics and speech fluency, the purpose of this scoping review is to examine, map, and narratively summarize the available evidence on PS interventions that target or affect voice or speech.
METHODS: An extensive literature search was conducted in three bibliographic d

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Benign vocal fold lesions (BVFLs) cause dysphonia by preventing full vocal fold closure, interrupting vibratory characteristics and increasing compensatory muscle tension. Management includes phonosurgery, voice therapy, pharmacological treatment or more commonly a combination of these interventions. This review aims to present current perspectives on the management of BVFLs, particularly exploring the role of voice therapy.
RECENT FINDINGS: The review highlights variation in the management of BVFLs. There is evidence that phonosurgery is a well tolerated and effective inte

If the phenomenon of reverse voice is well known as a transitional phenomenon occurring during normal phonation, it is less known as a pathological entity. In this connection it seemed interesting to get a fix on this type of phonation. We will illustrate our discussion with one of our patients for which the reverse voice was continuously used instead of the usual blown voice. We will present all clinical and functional investigations conducted with this patient. We also focused on the particular psycho-dysfunctional context this patient was struggling with. Instrumental investigations concern

Thirty patients diagnosed as suffering from non-organic dysphonia were assigned to one of three treatment groups: direct therapy, indirect and no treatment for a period of 8 weeks. Therapeutic outcome was evaluated by independent judges, patient self-evaluation, electrolaryngograph ratings and measures of fundamental frequency. The direct treatment group showed the most significant improvement in the return to normal voice functioning followed by the indirect treatment group. One patient in the control group showed improvement without any intervention. This study provides evidence in support o

Electroglottography is a useful, non-invasive technique that can assist in the assessment of vocal fold dysfunction. However, if it is to become a useful clinical tool, there is a need for normative studies of the electroglottogram waveform types that characterize different groups of speakers. This report compares the electroglottogram waveform types characterizing one trained professional voice user phonating in 15 experimental sessions under various fundamental frequencies, intensities and voice qualities with those obtained from 52 untrained non-professional speakers.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the current assessment practices of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in the United States working with adult clients with voice disorders with regard to the frequency, utility, and confidence in the use of five elements of a comprehensive voice evaluation, as well as training, access to instrumentation, and the use of published scales.
METHODS: An online survey was distributed to SLPs who currently see adults with dysphonia as part of their caseload. Clinicians in a voice-focused setting were compared to those who worked in a general medical setting.
RESULTS: Nea

PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect of expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) on voice production, dysarthria, and voice-related quality-of-life issues in persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). It was hypothesized that PwMS would have improved voice production and reduced voice-related quality-of-life issues following EMST.
PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS: Seventeen participants with MS and 14 healthy (H) controls completed 8 weeks of EMST, followed by 4 weeks of no training. Analyzed outcomes as a function of EMST were maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), sustained vowel prolongation (SV

OBJECTIVE: Several techniques have been practiced in the field of voice therapy to balance glottal pressures and improve glottal adduction. As such, Semioccluded Vocal Tract Exercises using narrow diameter straws have shown promise as a technique to increase glottal contact as reflected by Closed Quotients (CQ) measured from electroglottograph (EGG). This study explored the effect of nasal resistance (NR) technique, a manually induced NR approach, on glottal adduction in phononormal subjects as a possible new therapeutic technique to assist in glottal closure.

STATE OF THE ART: Theater actors are a high risk group for developing voice disorders.
AIMS: The first purpose of this study was to examine and compare the objective and subjective vocal quality between professional theater actors, non-professional theater actors and a control group of professional dancers. Secondly, the impact of one theater performance on the objective and subjective vocal quality was investigated within and between the groups. It is hypothesized that actors will experience vocal fatigue and a deteriorated vocal quality compared with dancers as a result of the vocal load du
