PURPOSE: This study examined the internal Cs exposure of residents and the Cs present in food products produced in Namie. Whole-body counter (WBC) was used for the measurement of internal exposure per each whole body of examinees.

We report an unusual severe systemic reaction that occurred in a woman after a (99m)Tc-methylene diphosphonate bone scan and for which no alternative explanation could be found. The bone scintigram showed diffusely increased uptake in the liver and kidneys accompanied by reversible dysfunction of these organs and dermatologic manifestations. We speculate that an immune-mediated mechanism may have caused this unusual reaction.

Pregnant Syrian golden hamsters were given a single oral dose of 203Hg-labelled methyl mercury (MeHg), 1.6 mumol/kg body weight, on day 12 of gestation. The uptake, retention and tissue distribution of 203Hg in the dams and pups was studied by gamma-counting during the following three weeks. Forty-eight weaned pigs were inoculated with 0 (controls), 100 (low dose), and 1,000 (high dose) itch mites, Sarcoptes scabiei (De Geer), and allowed to develop infestations for up to 10 wk.
