INTRODUCTION: Differences in bone density before and after endodontic treatment were examined in teeth with periapical lesions in Hounsfield units (HUs) by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
METHODS: Sixteen patients requiring endodontic treatment for periapical lesions underwent CBCT scan before and after treatment. Their bone densities were calculated in HUs. The study included 16 lesions measuring 8-10 mm in diameter. HU measurements were taken from an area of 2.25 mm(2) on the CBCT images where the bone density was lowest, before and after treatment.
RESULTS: The initial and fin

BACKGROUND: Furcation involvement complicates the management of periodontitis and increases the risk of tooth loss. Conventional methods of detection, such as probing and two-dimensional radiographs, are limited by operator variability and anatomical complexity. Deep learning has shown a potential to detect furcation involvement on radiographic images. The aim of this review was to systematically evaluate the diagnostic potentials of deep learning models in detecting furcation involvement on radiographic images.
METHODS: Systematic search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, CENTRAL, ClinicalTria

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The principal goal of endodontics is the prevention of periapical infection. Acute and chronic apical periodontitis occur due to the persistence of pathogenic microorganisms such as Enterococcus faecalis and Candida albicans harboring the root canal systems of the teeth. The concept of the use of probiotics in addressing endodontic disease is new and has not been studied adequately. On the basis of the success of probiotics in periodontal treatment, this preliminary work was performed (a) to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of probiotics against common endodontic pathog

BACKGROUND: Severe periodontitis often results in extensive attachment loss and non-contained bony defects, compromising regenerative predictability. This case series evaluates the clinical and radiographic outcomes of treating extensive infrabony defects with buccal dehiscence using a synergistic approach: the connective tissue graft (CTG) wall technique combined with freeze-dried bone allograft (FDBA) and concentrated growth factors (CGF).
METHODS: Two patients underwent regenerative surgery following initial periodontal therapy. Intraoperatively, two-wall, non-contained defects with comple

Odontogenic pain is one of the most intense forms of orofacial pain, yet durable mechanism-directed therapies remain limited. Traditionally, tooth pain has been framed as a local consequence of pulpal, dentinal, periodontal, or periapical disease. However, contemporary orofacial pain and headache frameworks increasingly position dental pain within a broader trigeminal pain network, where nociceptive input from the teeth and surrounding tissues may contribute to referred facial pain, headache-related orofacial pain overlap, and trigeminal sensitization. In this review, we synthesize odontogenic

Root canal perforation and root resorption are challenging clinical conditions to correctly diagnose and treat, especially when they occur in anterior teeth. This clinical report describes the computed tomography findings, endodontic treatment, prosthetic rehabilitation, and clinical outcome of an iatrogenic root perforation and internal resorption in a maxillary central incisor. The case management consisted of endodontic retreatment, periodontal surgery, and prosthetic rehabilitation. Gray mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was used to fill the resorption space and seal the perforation. The pr

In this study, the antibacterial activity of the different antibacterial solutions using as root canal irrigant was compared in the teeth with pulpal necrosis and with periapical pathosis. Thirty root canals of incisors and premolars of 20 patients were used. Before and after the root canal preparation, two canal samples were obtained by a harvesting method using a sterile paper point in the first appointment. During the biomechanical preparation, both irrigant solutions were used for each tooth which were randomly divided into two groups. Last samples were also obtained before the root fillin

OBJECTIVE: Apical periodontitis (AP) is characterised by inflammatory infiltration and periapical bone loss, accompanied by high expression of tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). SID1 transmembrane family member 2 (Sidt2) is a lysosomal membrane protein associated with inflammation. However, the effect of Sidt2 on AP remains unknown.
METHODS: We established an AP mouse model, and then the adenovirus-associated virus was used to inhibit Sidt2 expression in the AP model. Periapical lesions were detected using micro-computed tomography. Haematoxylin and eosin staining, tartrate-resistant acid

This study evaluated the microbiological conditions of root canals, using smears and culture from anterior teeth and premolars with necrotic pulps associated with chronic periapical pathologies, before and after biomechanical preparation (BMP). During double-flared instrumentation, 1, 2.5 and 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl)-based irrigants were used in 3 groups: GI (n=39), GII (n=36) and GIII (n=36), respectively. Before BMP, all cultures were positive and the smears showed microbiologically diverse morphotypes, including fusiforms, pleomorphic, rods, cocci and filaments. Quantitatively, 20, 20

A 24-year-old female patient reported with a mutilated maxillary left central incisor. The coronal tooth structure remaining was very less, discolored, and brittle. She gave history of trauma about 15 years back when the tooth got fractured. An intraoral periapical radiograph revealed an open apex and a large periapical lesion. The case was managed successfully by conservative means using intracanal calcium hydroxide and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apical barrier followed by a fiber post and a core. The final crown restored back esthetics and function. A 6-month follow-up demonstrated a c

External cervical resorption (ECR) is a sequela of dentoalveolar trauma that may cause functional, esthetic, and psychologic alterations. The aim of this study was to report a successful multidisciplinary treatment approach performed in a 12-year-old patient who presented with posttraumatic ECR associated with extensive opened cavity, pulp necrosis, and periapical lesion of tooth number 9, with an initial unfavorable prognosis. Crown lengthening was done to enable restoration of vestibular surface with resin composite, forming a barrier that allowed endodontic treatment. Afterwards, a prefabri
