Changes of denervation in the anal sphincter striated and smooth muscle in patients with neurogenic faecal incontinence are well established. This study aimed to determine if there is also a more proximal visceral autonomic abnormality. INTRODUCTION: Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. There are several known risk factors for postpartum hemorrhage related to pregnancy and delivery, but less evidence of predisposing factors. Recent research has shown that vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of cesarean section due to dystocia, based on its effect on striated muscle as well as possible effect on the myometrium. Whether vitamin D deficiency increases the risk for postpartum hemorrhage and especially atonic hemorrhage is unknown.

OBJECTIVES: Laryngeal rhabdomyomas are extremely rare, benign striated muscle tumors that have been documented only ∼50 times in the literature. They can be subdivided into two types: fetal and adult types, with the adult type being more common. Common presenting symptoms include hoarseness or progressive dysphagia. Diagnosis is made via immunohistochemical and microscopic analysis. Management is typically surgical, most commonly endoscopic, or open resection.

INTRODUCTION: Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) is a potent biological toxin and powerful therapeutic tool for a growing number of clinical orofacial applications. INTRODUCTION: Hyperextension of the extensor hallucis longus (EHL) muscle is a well recognised disabling sequel of either pyramidal or extrapyramidal lesions causing what is known as striated or hitchhiker's toe. Surgery was the only effective strategy to manage EHL hyperextension before botulinum toxin's use to manage muscular dystonia and spasticity became widely popular.
METHODS: A multicentre retrospective study. A standard proforma was sent to specialists in neurological rehabilitation dealing routinely with this problem. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics.

METHODS: Retrospective review of 6328 consecutive patients with orbital disease evaluated at Aravind Eye Hospital between January 1997 and December 2008. RATIONALE: Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a malignant tumor with striated muscle differentiation, is the most common type of soft-tissue sarcoma in children and adolescents, but rarely occurs in adults, and especially in human livers. Moreover, this disease has a very poor prognosis. Here we report a case of primary RMS of the liver in a 66-year-old woman. This case is rare with respect to the location and clinical course of the tumor. The tumor had enlarged rapidly, ruptured, and eventually caused the patient's death after a long history of a stable abdominal mass that indicated a hepatic cyst.
