Phylogenetic Characteristics and Low-Temperature Response Expression Patterns of PmKIN Gene Family in Prunus mume.

Background: Kinesins are ATP-dependent molecular motors that mediate intracellular transport, cytoskeleton remodeling, and abiotic stress responses in plants. The KIN gene family remains poorly characterized in Prunus mume. This study aimed to explore the evolutionary features and cold-responsive functions of the PmKIN gene family. Methods: A systematic genome‑wide analysis was performed in P. mume. We performed phylogenetic classification, conserved domain detection, gene duplication and selection pressure analysis, cis-element prediction, tissue expression profiling, cold stress expression a

A stable transformation platform in pomegranate uncovers PgMYB10 as a key regulator of anthocyanin biosynthesis.

An efficient genetic transformation platform enables functional validation of PgMYB10, identifying it as a master regulator governing anthocyanin biosynthesis in pomegranate. Limited availability of stable genetic transformation systems restricts functional genomics research in pomegranate. Here, we established efficient in vitro regeneration and Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation systems for 'Taishanhong' pomegranate using stem segment explants. Optimized medium combinations produced high-frequency regeneration: a 93.3% shoot-induction rate on MS medium with 1.5 mg/L 6-benzylam

Response of rice production to rising CO2 and its adaptive cultivation strategies.

Rice is the staple food for more than half of the population in China. Therefore, enhancing the grain yield of rice is the core of ensuring food security. In recent decades, the increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration generally increases the photosynthetic rate of rice and then the rice yield. This phenomenon is generally termed the CO2 fertilization effect (CFE), which plays a pivotal role in sustaining global rice yield in the context of climate change. In order to accurately understand the impact of elevated CO2 on rice productivity and yield, this study first presents th

Acaricidal effect and histological damage induced by Bacillus thuringiensis protein extracts on the mite Psoroptes cuniculi.

BACKGROUND: The mite Psoroptes cuniculi is a common worldwide ectoparasite and the most frequently found in rabbit farms. It causes significant economic losses on commercial rabbit breeding associated with poor leather quality, reduced conception rates, weight loss, poor growth and death. Several strategies have been proposed for the treatment of mange caused by this mite, ranging from the use of acaricides, entomopathogenic fungi, essential oils and vaccines. However, therapy and control of both human scabies and animal mange are still based mainly on the use of drugs and chemicals such as iv

Chlamydiosis in cattle and in man: an epidemiologic and serologic study.

In the Pardubice area, the systematic examinations for Chlamydia-specific antibodies in cattle were started in 1967. In the years 1967-1978 the detectable levels of antibody to Chlamydia were demonstrated in 16.1% of 38,394 sera from cattle and in 18.6% of 5,244 sera from slinking cows. In the year 1979 the percentage of seropositivity in cattle increased significantly to 23.5% of the 4,197 sera examined. Examinations in 1980 revealed that 23.1% of 4,042 sera from cattle, 34.4% of 319 sera from slinking cows and 17.9% of 209 sera from calves were found antibody positive. Over the period from 1

Ergot on cereal grains.

Ergot is caused by a fungus (Claviceps species) which has been found on hundreds of plants in almost every country of the world. The fungus can adapt itself to form many different varieties. New species of the fungus and new hosts are still discovered today. The alkaloids in ergot have caused hundreds of thousands of deaths in the Middle Ages after consumption of contaminated cereal grains, but during the last two decades there has not been a recorded outbreak of ergotism. Grain standards in most countries are very strict and do not permit grain which contains ergot to reach commercial food ch

Omics-driven research progress on phosphate activation mechanisms and stress adaptability regulation of Phosphate-Solubilizing Microorganisms (PSMs).

Phosphorus (P) is an indispensable macronutrient for crop growth and development, but most phosphorus in soil exists in insoluble forms with extremely low availability. Although the application of traditional chemical phosphorus fertilizers can meet the phosphorus demand of crop growth, the extensive exploitation of phosphate rock resources has led to problems such as phosphate rock depletion and environmental pollution, highlighting an urgent need for sustainable phosphorus management strategies. Phosphate-Solubilizing Microorganisms (PSMs) provide an environmentally friendly biological appro

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of nucleotide-binding site leucine-rich repeat genes associated with downy mildew resistance in spinach.

BACKGROUND: Downy mildew is a destructive disease that causes severe losses in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) yield and quality. Nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) genes are core regulators of plant innate immunity and play critical roles in defense against pathogen infection. However, the characteristics of NBS-LRR family genes in spinach and their specific functions in downy mildew resistance remain unclear, limiting the development of resistant spinach cultivars. METHODS: Using available spinach genome data, we identified NBS-LRR family members via bioinformatics approac

Allelic Variation in Zmfatb Gene Defines Variability for Fatty Acids Composition Among Diverse Maize Genotypes.

Edible oil with lower saturated fatty acids is desired for perceived quality and health benefits to humans and livestock. fatb gene encoding acyl-ACP thioesterase is a key player in the conversion of palmitic acid to oleic acid, thereby modifying the ratio of saturated to unsaturated fatty acids in maize kernels. The present investigation characterised the full-length sequence of the Zmfatb gene (4.63 kb) in two mutants (Zmfatb) and eight wild-types (ZmfatB) inbreds to study allelic variation, gene-based diversity, phylogenetic-relationship, protein-modelling, and molecular-docking to identify

Bioactive compounds, antioxidant activity, and mineral content of bróquil: A traditional crop of Brassica oleracea var. italica.

Brassicaceae edible plants are rich in bioactive compounds and promote health benefits. However, there is less interest in expanding knowledge about the Brassica cultivars to date. In particular, underutilized species and local cultivars could constitute a source of agrodiversity in adapting to the territory with likely higher contents of nutraceutical compounds. In this context, Bróquil (Brassica oleracea var. italica) is a traditional Brassicaceae crop grown in the Spanish region of Aragón. Currently, it is cultivated mainly in family orchards for autoconsumption and, in minority, in small f

Association analysis of rice resistance genes and blast fungal avirulence genes for effective breeding resistance cultivars.

Utilization of rice blast-resistance (R) genes is the most economical and environmentally friendly method to control blast disease. However, rice varieties with R genes influence the outcome of genetic architectures of Magnaporthe oryzae (M. oryzae), and mutations in avirulence (AVR) genes of M. oryzae may cause dysfunction of the corresponding R genes in rice varieties. Although monitoring and characterizing rice R genes and pathogen AVR genes in field populations may facilitate the implementation of effective R genes, little is known about the changes of R genes over time and their ultimate

Genotype calling of triploid offspring from diploid parents.

BACKGROUND: Polyploidy is widespread in animals and especially in plants. Different kinds of ploidies exist, for example, hexaploidy in wheat, octaploidy in strawberries, and diploidy, triploidy, tetraploidy, and pseudo-tetraploidy (partly tetraploid) in fish. Triploid offspring from diploid parents occur frequently in the wild in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and, as with triploidy in general, the triploid individuals are sterile. Induced triploidy in Atlantic salmon is common practice to produce sterile fish. In Norwegian aquaculture, production of sterile triploid fish is an attempt by gove
