An easy and simple analytical method was standardized and validated for the estimation of residues of thiamethoxam and its metabolites in cotton. A method for the quantification of clavulanic acid in calf plasma using high-performance liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry, operating in the negative ionization mode (LC-MS/MS), is presented. A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method is described for the simultaneous determination of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and its main metabolite salicylic acid (SA) in human plasma. Acidified plasma is deproteinized with acetonitrile which is separated from the aqueous layer by adding sodium chloride. ASA and SA are extracted into the acetonitrile layer with high yield, and determined by reversed-phase HPLC (column: Novapak C18 4 microns silica, 150 x 4 mm I.D.; eluent: 740 ml water, 900 microliters 85% orthophosphoric acid, 180 ml acetonitrile) and photometric detection (237 nm).

Methyleneaminoacetonitrile (MAAN) when reacted with other amino acids, gives rise to the formation of peptides in addition to the usual hydrolytic products. It acts as a precursor of glycine and also as a dehydration condensing agent. It has been shown that MAAN is easily formed by the reaction of hydrogen cyanide, ammonia and formaldehyde as well as by the reaction of formaldehyde with aminoacetonitrile, in dilute ammoniacal solution.

The kinetics of reaction of the [W(3)PdS(4)H(3)(dmpe)(3)(CO)](+) hydride cluster (1(+)) with HCl has been measured in dichloromethane, and a second-order dependence with respect to the acid is found for the initial step.
