Electrochemical behavior of pyrite in sulfuric acid in presence of amino acids belonging to the amino acid sequence of rusticyanin.

The impact of different concentrations of three amino acids (cysteine, histidine and methionine) which are part of the amino acid sequence of rusticyanin on dissolution of pyrite is investigated by the application of electrochemical techniques. Cyclic voltammetric studies conducted in the anodic direction from corrosion potential have shown that in the vicinity of corrosion potential, histidine and methionine do not influence dissolution of pyrite independently on their concentrations. On the other hand, cysteine and solutions of these amino acids in the molar ratios Cys:His:Met/1:1:1 and Cys:

Factors Influencing the Selection of α-Amino Acids over β-Amino Acids in Nature: Studies Involving Protein-l-isoaspartyl Methyltransferase Substrates and Related Peptides.

To understand the differences resulting from the presence of an α- or β-amino acid in a peptide, we used two sets of amino acids corresponding to Asp/isoAsp and Ala/isoAla in two types of host peptides: one containing Gly (with no side chains) and the other containing Ala (representing amino acids with side chains), and measured their tendency to form fibrils. The peptides with a β-amino acid formed fibrils, while those with an α-amino acid did not exhibit this proclivity, as inferred from the thioflavin T (ThT) fluorescence intensity measurements. The fibrillation of the hexapeptide with isoA

Serum branch chain amino acids and aromatic amino acids ratio and metabolic risks in Koreans with normal-weight or obesity: a cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVES: Metabolic disease is strongly associated with future insulin resistance, and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. Thus, identifying early biomarkers of metabolic-related disease based on serum profiling is useful to control future metabolic disease. Our study aimed to assess the association of serum branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and aromatic amino acids (AAAs) ratio and metabolic disease according to body mass index (BMI) status among Korean adults. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 78 adults aged 20-59 years in Korea. We compared serum amino acid (AA) levels be

Apparent jejunal amino acid digestibility, gut morphology, and the expression of intestinal amino acid transporters in pigs fed protein or free amino acids.

Dietary amino acids (AA) supplied as protein or in free form are not only digested and absorbed at different rates but can also induce differences in the intestinal physiology of pigs. We compared the apparent jejunal AA digestibility, intestinal morphology, and gene expression of AA transporters of pigs fed diets providing different forms of AA. Thirty growing pigs (33.7 ± 4.1 kg) were fed one of three experimental diets that provided AA either as protein from feather meal (INT), as free AA and small peptides obtained by extensive acid hydrolysis of feathers (HYD), or as a mix of individual p

Methionine to cystine ratio in the total sulfur amino acid requirements and sulfur amino acid metabolism using labelled amino acid approach for broilers.

BACKGROUND: Assuming that part of Methionine (Met) is converted into Cystine (Cys), but ignoring the rates with which such phenomenon occurs may lead to an excessive supply of Met in poultry diets. Such inconvenient could be easily avoided with the knowledge of the ideal Met:Cys/Total sulfur amino acids (TSAA) ratio and the rates of Met conversion into Cys. RESULTS: Met sources did not affect performance. Met:Cys/TSAA ideal ratio was determined using curvilinear-plateau regression model. Both optimum body weight gain and feed conversion ratio were estimated in 1007 g/day and 1.49, respectivel

Effects of Dietary Protein Levels on Fecal Amino Acids Excretion and Apparent Digestibility, and Fecal and Ileal Microbial Amino Acids Composition in Weaned Piglets.

Background and Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of low protein diets with the same Lys, Met + Cys, Thr, and Trp levels as in high protein diets on the fecal amino acid excretion and apparent digestibility, and ileal and fecal microbial amino acids composition in weaned piglets. Methods: Fifty-four 21-day-old Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire weaned piglets were randomly divided into three groups and fed with corn-soybean meal basal diets, in which the crude protein (CP) content was 20% (H-CP), 17% (M-CP), and 14% (L-CP), respectively. The experiment included a 7-day adap

Effect of insulin in conjunction with glucose, amino acids and potassium on net metabolism of glucose and amino acids in the goat mammary gland.

The hyperinsulinaemic euglycaemic insulin clamp technique was used to study the effect of insulin on the arterio-venous concentration differences of glucose and amino acids across the mammary gland in dairy goats. Insulin was given in conjunction with K to prevent insulin hypokalaemia. Appropriate amino acid infusion was used to blunt insulin-induced hypoaminoacidaemia or to create hyperaminoacidaemia and maintain this state under insulin treatment. Hyperaminoacidaemia alone only stimulated mammary leucine uptake but did not significantly modify the net metabolism of other amino acids and gluc

Atherosclerosis Linked to Aberrant Amino Acid Metabolism and Immunosuppressive Amino Acid Catabolizing Enzymes.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading global health concern and responsible for more deaths worldwide than any other type of disorder. Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease in the arterial wall, which underpins several types of cardiovascular disease. It has emerged that a strong relationship exists between alterations in amino acid (AA) metabolism and the development of atherosclerosis. Recent studies have reported positive correlations between levels of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) such as leucine, valine, and isoleucine in plasma and the occurrence of metabolic disturbance

Transforming growth factor e: amino acid analysis and partial amino acid sequence.

Our previous studies have demonstrated that transforming growth factor e (TGFe) acts as a mitogen for epithelial and fibroblastic cells in both monolayer and soft agar. We have also identified TGFe in both normal and neoplastic tissues of mostly epithelial origin, and in body fluids. In this study we report on the purification of TGFe to homogeneity from bovine kidney using a multistep purification protocol which utilizes high performance electrophoresis chromatography in the final step. Amino acid analysis of TGFe revealed high content of proline, aspartate and glutamate. Examination of parti

Intestinal amino acid and peptide transporters in broiler are modulated by dietary amino acids and protein.

This study evaluated the effect of three levels of digestible amino acids (DAA; 100, 107 and 114% of Cobb recommendations) on mRNA abundance of peptide (PepT1) and amino acid (AA) transporters in 480-day-old broilers during prestarter period. Jejunal mRNA levels of the PepT1 and b0,+AT increased as DAA level increased from 100 to 114%. The expression of CAT1 mRNA in the jejunum was higher in birds fed 100% DAA diet. The transport systems B0AT and y+LAT1 were not affected by the dietary treatments. These results demonstrated that dietary content of protein and DAA differentially affected the ex

C-Terminal Functionalization Methods of Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins.

The functionalization of the C-terminus of amino acids, peptides, and proteins has been extensively studied for more than 150 years and is central to modern peptide synthesis. While most functionalization methods target the N-terminus or reactive residues, such as lysine, cysteine, or tyrosine, the chemo- and regioselective modification of the C-terminus remains relatively underdeveloped. In this review, we discuss strategies for C-terminal activation and functionalization, including classical coupling reagents, enzymatic modifications, photo- and electrochemical decarboxylation, and emerging

Engineering inflammation-responsive proteins through nitric oxide-caged amino acids.

Nitric oxide is upregulated in inflammatory tissues but has not been used to directly control the activity of folded proteins. Here we report a protein engineering strategy that enables selective restoration of protein function in nitric oxide-rich environments. Protein activity is temporarily suppressed by site-specific substitution of a catalytically or structurally essential glutamate residue with a synthetic amino acid whose side chain is chemically masked. Exposure to nitric oxide triggers decaging of this residue, regenerating the native glutamate and restoring protein function. Using th

Enhancement of production of pathogen-suppressing volatiles using amino acids.

Bacterial volatile organic compounds can play a significant role in antagonistic interactions. Enhancing the production of bacterial volatiles that suppress the growth of soil-borne phytopathogenic fungi, has perspective as a sustainable disease control strategy. In the present study, we explored the potential of stimulating Burkholderia AD24 and Paenibacillus AD87 to produce volatiles that suppress the growth of the plant pathogenic fungi Fusarium culmorum PV and Rhizoctonia solani AG2.2IIIb. We provided the bacterial strains with a mixture of amino acids that can serve as precursor molecules
