Purpose: Steroid hormones in hormonal contraceptives influence a variety of metabolic parameters. Mainly, ethinyloestradiol (EE) in combined hormonal contraceptives (CHC) is a potent inducer of hepatic coagulation factors, has an impact on cholesterol and triglyceride levels and glucose tolerance. INTRODUCTION: The use of progestin-only pills (POPs) is still relatively infrequent, mainly for their unpredictable effect on menstrual bleeding. A new POP consisting of 4 mg drospirenone (DRSP) for 24 days plus 4-day hormone-free interval has been developed to address this need. DRSP is a potent progestin analogue of spironolactone, with antiandrogenic and antimineralocorticoid properties.

INTRODUCTION: Clinical characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (menstrual irregularities, obesity, anovulation, etc.), occur together with a series of conditions at skin level like seborrhea, acne, hirsutism, and androgenetic alopecia. Estroprogestins (EPs) are recognized as the most powerful therapy to treat hyperandrogenism and/or hyperandrogenemia and regularize menstrual cycle.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: This review includes the most relevant publications about the effects of EPs in PCOS women published between 1995 and 2025.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) has been the standard-of-care (SOC) for metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) since the middle of the twentieth century. Recently, several practice-changing trials have added new therapy options for these patients. Here we review these studies and discuss guidelines on treatment decision-making.
