Pregnant patients may present with multiple complex comorbidities that can affect peripartum management and anesthetic care. The preanesthesia clinic is the ideal setting for early evaluation of high-risk pregnant patients. Comorbidities may include cardiovascular pathology such as valvular abnormalities, septal defects, aortopathies, arrythmias and cardiomyopathies. BACKGROUND: This study aimed to assess how Dutch neurologists and anesthesiologists diagnose and treat people with sciatica in secondary care and to evaluate their adherence to the newest guidelines.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Perineal tears or lacerations are common occurrences after vaginal delivery. Understanding the degree of severity of these tears and the immediate and long-term complications of severe perineal lacerations can assist anesthesiologists with the management of these patients in the immediate postpartum period.
RECENT FINDINGS: Severe perineal lacerations have a high degree of association with postpartum depression. The presence of neuraxial labor analgesia decreases the odds of severe perineal lacerations.
