BACKGROUND: Effect of Heteropterys aphrodisiaca (dog-node) on anxiety and function of adult female wistar mice. The project is an experiment with the use of H. aphrodisiac root extract, in order to observe the frequency of sexual exposure of females exposed to the extract, quantify the effect of the extract on the concentration of total testosterone and observe the anxiety levels of the animals exposed. Results will be measured with the laboratory testosterone test and LCE and CA tests.
METHODS: In preparation of the extract, the root was oven dried at 40°C and diluted in alcohol extract (100

To elucidate the role of the amygdala in visual perception and cognition, the effects of ablations of the amygdala and inferotemporal cortex on several visual tasks were compared with each other, and also the distribution patterns of the projections between them were investigated. The findings indicate that the inferotemporal cortex plays a critical role in visual perception, cognition and memory, whereas the amygdala is involved fundamentally in controlling emotional and motivational behavior. However, the amygdala is concerned with vision in the following ways: It receives neutral visual inf

BACKGROUND: Supplement use is prevalent and appears to be increasing over time. In the United States, regulation by the Food and Drug Administration is limited largely to post-marketing surveillance, raising safety concerns. A variety of supplements have been associated with cardiovascular toxicity, which can occur via adulteration, substitution, or as a result of intrinsic toxicity of the supplement. Cardiovascular toxicity due to supplement use may arise via several different mechanisms, and has been reported with supplements that act as central nervous system stimulants, via poisoning of ca

Mucuna pruriens Linn. (M. pruriens), a leguminous plant, was used extensively in Ayurveda, to treat male-related infertility. Previous studies have demonstrated antioxidant, androgenic, aphrodisiac, and spermatogenic properties of M. pruriens seed extract. Surprisingly, the biological activities of M. pruriens on aging-induced pathological changes in the testis microenvironment have never been explored and the present study was focused on the testing therapeutic efficacy of M. pruriens on aged rat testis. Male Wistar albino rats were grouped as; adult (3 months), aged (24 months), aged + M. pr

Background and Aims/Introduction: Mad honey disease is caused by consuming honey containing grayanotoxanes-neurotoxins found in certain species of Rhododendron plants. Mad honey, derived from the nectar of these plants, can cause significant cardiovascular and neurological symptoms. While most cases are reported in regions where it is produced, extensive travel among diverse expatriate communities in various global regions is one of the factors that may contribute to cases occurring in nonendemic areas. Other factors leading to its increased demand include the global demand for its recreationa

Honey has been used as a folk medicine since 2100 BC; however, mad honey is different from normal natural or commercially available honey as it is contaminated with grayanotoxins, which leads to intoxication/poisoning upon consumption. Grayanotoxin is generally found in Rhododendron genus (family: Ericaceae) and is extracted by bees from nectar and pollens of flowers. Mad honey has been commonly used as an aphrodisiac (sexual stimulant), in alternative therapy for gastrointestinal disorders (peptic ulcer disease, dyspepsia, and gastritis), and for hypertension for a long time. Grayanotoxin act

It has been suggested that crystal methamphetamine may have disinhibiting or aphrodisiac effects, which may lead to unsafe sexual behavior and increase the risk of HIV transmission. Using data from two Australian studies, the Sydney Gay Community Periodic Survey study and the Positive Health (PH) cohort study, we examined changes over time in use of crystal, other recreational drugs, and Viagra, and in a range of sex-related behaviors. Compared to non-users, crystal users reported having more sex partners, looking for sex in more types of venues, and being more likely to engage in unprotected
