We report on a patient with chronic discoid lupus erythematosus who was treated with argon-laser. The patient suffered from long-standing lesions and had been pretreated with various drugs; with no or slight improvement. After a few argon-laser applications, the treated skin lesions improved dramatically while the untreated lesional skin showed continuous disease activity. In chronic radiation proctitis bleeding occurs from mucosal friability and neovascular telangiectasias. Fourteen patients with bleeding from chronic radiation proctitis underwent endoscopic argon laser therapy at 4 to 8 W. The goal of treatment was obliteration of all telangiectasias. The average follow-up was 35 months. Of the 51 procedures, 48 (94%) were performed on outpatients with enema preparation and little or no sedation. Stapedectomy for otosclerosis is one of the most demanding otologic procedures, especially for residents in training. The reported series in the literature, as well as our own experience with the traditional resident-performed complete stapedectomy, have been disappointing. We performed hysteroscopic metroplasty in 21 women with repeated abortion and subseptate uterus. There is substantial evidence that prostaglandins (PG's) mediate acute elevations of intraocular pressure (IOP) due to laser irradiation of the iris. In the present study, we determined the optimal laser parameters needed to produce the maximal rise in IOP in anesthetized rabbits. Application of argon laser (0.75 watts, 0.5 sec. duration, and 8 spots of 500 micron size) to the iris of pigmented rabbits elicited an acute rise in IOP and miosis accompanied by an increase in aqueous protein concentration. One hundred and one patients (112 parts) with port-wine stains were treated by argon laser therapy. We strictly evaluated all patients according to color shift, scar formation, and pigmentation. We observed good to excellent results in 44 percent of patients, and less satisfactory results in 56 percent. The relationship between the effects of treatment and several factors, such as patients' age, anatomic site, and histologic type of the lesions, were investigated. More satisfactory results tended to be obtained in patients with neck lesions and with histologic type III lesions (dilated type).

A pilot study evaluated both the safety and the effect on intraocular pressure control of argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in eyes with secondary forms of open-angle glaucoma. All patients included in this study had poor IOP control and were considered surgical candidates. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common type of malignant neoplasm in non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC). Most cases of simple cSCC are considered curable by surgical removal of the lesion. Gastric hemangioma in the neonatal period is a very rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a case of hemangioma limited to the gastric cavity in a 10-day-old infant.
