BACKGROUND: Bilateral benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo (bBPPV) is rather rare, accounting for up to 10% in the reported benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo (BPPV) series. Inappropriate head positioning during testing in unilateral BPPV causes the otolith debris in the uppermost ear to move toward the cupula, resulting in an inhibitory nystagmus and mimicking bBPPV.
PURPOSE: We analyzed the clinical data of patients with bilaterally positive Dix-Hallpike maneuver and compared them with the characteristics of patients with unilateral BPPV. We further tried to propose a simple schematic a

The electronystagmographic auditory brainstem response and magnetic resonance imaging findings for a 33-year-old male with a 3.5 cm left vestibular schwannoma are presented. Of particular interest was the presence of an unusual positioning nystagmus following the Dix-Hallpike maneuver in the right head-hanging position. The patient demonstrated a nystagmus that was immediate in onset and not fatigueable upon repeated positioning. During positioning, the patient experienced a vertical bobbing sensation and dysphoria, but not rotational vertigo. Most importantly, the nystagmus had a predominant

Acute positional vertigo is a common neurological presentation, which is often assumed to be due to benign peripheral vestibular causes. This paper presents the case of a woman in her late 30s who presented with brief, recurrent, position-triggered vertigo. She had no headache, neck pain, trauma history, or vascular risk factors. The clinical history closely resembled benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. However, neurological examination revealed subtle central signs: internuclear ophthalmoplegia and cerebellar ataxia. Brain imaging demonstrated infarction in the left cerebellar hemisphere. B

OBJECTIVE: We investigated symptom scores and quality of life in unilateral posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) patients.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this retrospective and multicentric study, 78 patients with unilateral posterior canal BPPV (47 right-sided and 31 left-sided) were included. All patients have performed the Standard Epley maneuver. Features of the nystagmus [nystagmus duration (second), latent period (second)] and features of the disease [side (right or left-sided), disease duration (years), and recurrence of disease (present or absent)] were noted. OBJECTIVE: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of dizziness in the general population. BPPV is known to be closely related to the serum vitamin D level. This study aimed to examine the relationship between serum vitamin D levels and BPPV recurrence.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted on 50 patients diagnosed with posterior and lateral canal BPPV. The diagnosis of BPPV was based on the finding of vertigo and nystagmus induced by certain head positions (The Dix-Hallpike maneuver and head roll tests). The patients were classified into BPPV recurr

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common peripheral vestibular dysfunctions encountered in clinical practice. Although the treatment of BPPV is relatively successful, many patients develop recurrence after treatment. Our purpose is to evaluate the mean recurrence rate and risk factors of BPPV after treatment. A review of the literature on the risk factors of BPPV recurrence was performed. A thorough search was conducted using electronic databases, namely Pubmed, CINAHL, Academic Search Complete and Scopus for studies published from 2000 to 2020. Thirty studies were

BACKGROUND: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is a frequent diagnosed disorder, most of the patients are successfully treated with reposition maneuvers. In between 3-12.5% of these patients remain symptomatic. Recent studies support the use of intratympanic corticosteroid for intractable vertigo with promising results.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients diagnosed with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo between June 2017 and December 2019 in a tertiary university hospital and in two private hospitals were included in the study and analyzed prospectively. They were treated and followed with re

BACKGROUND: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common clinical entities, which develops spontaneously in most of the cases, but it can be secondary as a result of different conditions such as head injuries, viral neurolabyrinthitis, Meniere's disease and vertebrobasilar ischemia. The aim of presenting this case is to point out to the need of taking a precise clinical history and performing Dix-Hallpike manoeuvre in all patients who complain about vertigo regardless of the previously diagnosed primary disease of the inner ear.

Diagnosis of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) often causes difficulties, in particular, in elderly people with concomitant diseases. The article presents a case of a 77 year-old woman with BPPV. A patient's complaint on vertigo was mistakenly diagnosed as brain ischemia because the patient had long suffered from uncontrolled arterial hypertension. MRI-study revealed leucoaraiosis and one lacuna as well as a meningioma which was mistakenly linked to vertigo. The diagnosis of BPPV, use of Epley maneuver with the following vestibular exercises resulted in complete stopping of vertigo.
