Neoplasia in wild fish populations is increasingly recognized as an important indicator of environmental stress and ecosystem health. The present study reports the first documented case of chondroma in the largescale mullet Planiliza macrolepis from the southeast coast of India. An adult female exhibiting a conspicuous external tumorous growth near the caudal peduncle was collected from the Pondicherry fish landing centre during a routine survey. Gross examination revealed a firm, irregular, pinkish-white mass measuring approximately 3.0 × 3.1 × 3.2 cm. Histopathological analysis demonstrated

Chondroma of the mandibular condyle is rare and its signs and symptoms can mimic those of patients with more common disorders of facial asymmetry or dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). We report a case of chondroma of the mandibular condyle that presented as temporomandibular pain with malocclusion, and which relapsed 5 years after the initial treatment. To our knowledge only 7 cases of chondroma of the mandibular condyle have been reported in the last 70 years. This case is the eighth.

We report a case of a chondroma found in the soft tissues of the hand. Reports in the literature show that this cartilaginous tumor is a rare slowly-evolving benign tumor. Diagnosis is difficult as standard x-rays show variable images depending on the degree of calcification. Magnetic resonance imaging is helpful in orienting the diagnosis and delimiting the tumor but is not always useful in determining its exact origin. Positive diagnosis is provided by the pathology examination, but confirmation may be difficult to establish. We stress the importance of repeated microtrauma in the developmen

The coexistence of enchondromas and vascular lesions characterizes the principal feature of a rare congenital condition known as Maffucci syndrome. We present a 20-year-old male with a mosaic distribution of vascular malformations and atrophic overlying dermis and subcutis. Enchondroma and multiple periosteal chondromas of the ipsilateral limb led to the working diagnosis of Maffucci syndrome. Of interest, this patient also has a history of congenital fibrosarcoma with concomitant thrombocytopenia. To our knowledge this is the first report of this constellation of findings, which may represent

Nasal chondromas and nasal atypical cartilaginous tumors (or chondrosarcoma grade 1) are very rare chondrogenic tumors. Approximately 150 cases of nasal chondroma and fewer than 50 cases of nasal atypical cartilaginous tumors have been described. We reported a case with nasal chondroma in the right ethmoid area and a case with a nasal atypical cartilaginous tumor of the anterior septum. No chondroma recurrence was noted for 17 years after endoscopic resection. Recurrence was noted for the nasal atypical cartilaginous tumor 36 months after wide surgical excision via midfacial degloving. Revisio

BACKGROUND: Lumbar spinal chondroma (LSC) is a rare benign tumor. Most LSCs are located in the epidural space, and some exhibit a dumbbell-shaped growth pattern. Its presentation mimics lumbar disc herniation, leading to frequent misdiagnosis. While hemilaminectomy has been the conventional treatment, we report a case successfully managed with a novel technique: Arthroscopic-assisted Uni-portal Spinal Surgery (AUSS) via a far-lateral extraforaminal approach. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 42-year-old male with recurrent left lower limb radicular pain for one year. Preoperative MRI revealed an L

Carney triad (CT) describes the association of paragangliomas (PGLs) with gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) and pulmonary chondromas (PCH). A number of other lesions have been described in the condition including pheochromocytomas, oesophageal leiomyomas and adrenocortical adenomas; CT is a novel form of multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN), a genetic condition with a female predilection. Inactivating mutations of the mitochondrial complex II succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) enzyme subunits SDHB, SDHC and SDHD have been found in familial and sporadic PGLs, and gain-of-function mutations of t

This report discusses Maffucci's syndrome associated with intracranial chordoma. Of the 170 reported cases of this syndrome, only 27 have been associated with intracranial lesions and none was involved with intracranial chordoma. Chordomas are occasionally difficult to differentiate from chondroma and chondrosarcoma. An immunohistochemical analysis was able to prove, however, that the chordoma of this case significantly differed from chondroma and chondrosarcoma.

We report a case of a dural-based chondroma in the right frontal extra-axial region. Chondromas are benign cartilaginous tumors which are uncommon intracranially. Their diagnosis should be predicated on the exclusion of a chondrosarcoma and clinical studies should be performed to rule out any underlying tumor predisposition syndromes.

A chondrosarcoma arising in the posterior cricoid plate is presented. The tumour gave rise to increasing inspiratory stridor: laryngectomy was performed. The tumour consisted of loose cartilaginous tissue with great predominance of highly differentiated cartilage cells and only small areas with nuclear polymorphism. This complicated the differential diagnosis between chondroma and highly differentiated chondrosarcoma. From the fact that the patient died from massive pulmonary metastases 3 1/2 years later, it is evident that the degree of malignancy of cartilaginous tumours should be determined

Carney's triad is a combination of at least 2 of 3 tumor sites: multiple gastric leiomyoblastoma, pulmonary chondroma and paraganglioma, most often extra-adrenal and secreting. Thirty-three cases have been published; we report a new case in a 20 year-old woman, with multiple gastric leiomyoblastomas, liver metastasis, and bilateral pulmonary chondroma. The research of paraganglioma, in regard to Carney's disease, led to the discovery of corticoadrenal adenoma.

Radiologic images suggestive of chondroma may be observed in polyostotic or mono-osteotic fibrous dysplasia and were detected in 11 out of 27 patients with the polyostotic form and 1 out of 7 with the mono-osteotic form. Histology in some cases showed cartilaginous tissue foci suggestive of an isolated chondroma or Ollier's disease. Pathogenicity of these cartilaginous lesions and relations between Ollier's chondrodysplasia and fibrous dysplasia are discussed.

160 patients (72 men and 88 women) in the age from 12 to 71 were admitted to Orthopaedic and Traumatology Department Skubiszewski Medical University in Lublin because of enchondromas. In 126 patients chondromas were located in hand, and in 34 remaining patients (21,3%) in: humerus, forearm, femur, tibia, fibula and foot. The typical signs of enchondroma were: pain, little limitation of movement, thickening of tissues or pathological fracture. 31 patients were operated on. Enchondroma was resected with cutterage, the walls of osseus cavity cleaned with reamer and bone loss filled up with bone g

INTRODUCTION: ?Introduction: Periosteal chondromas are rare, slow-growing, benign cartilaginous tumors arising from the cortical surface of the bone, beneath the periosteal membrane. Typically affect young males, the most common site being the proximal humerus. There have been no reported cases of periosteal chondroma of the talus in the literature.
CASE REPORT: A 9-year-old Indian boy presented with a 1.5-year history of atraumatic right ankle pain and swelling, exacerbated by walking, with limited dorsiflexion. Physical examination revealed a firm, painless swelling on the anterior ankle's

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to evaluate by cross-sectional imaging the prevalence and degree of cortical scalloping by small eccentric chondromas correlated with histologic diagnosis and patient history.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 122 patients with histologically proven enchondromas and two patients without histology but with radiologic and clinical follow-up, 11 patients with small, eccentrically located chondromas in the long bones had cross-sectional imaging available. The lesions were evaluated for location, size, presence, and degree of cortical scalloping. The patient's

The authors report the case of a 54-year-old male who was found to have a large intracranial chondrosarcoma at the site from which chondromas had been partially removed twice, 6 and 10 years previously. On the third admission, the second through tenth and the twelfth cranial nerves on the right side were involved. Computed tomographic scans showed a large mass in the right middle and posterior fossae and the right ethmoid sinus. Angiography demonstrated an extradural mass in the right middle fossa. The tumor in the middle and posterior fossae was subtotally removed, and second, third, and eigh

Progressive unilateral knee stiffness is an uncommon complaint in older adult. Tumor and specific infection should be considered in addition to osteoarthritis. We report a case of intracapsular and paraarticular chondroma in the infrapatellar Hoffa's fat pad that presented as a painless limited knee in 64-year old man. A physical examination revealed a firm, movable mass in the infrapatellar area. Radiographs and Magnetic resonance images showed an ovoid, well-defined, soft tissue mass with focal calcification in the infrapatellar fat pad. The mass was completely resected surgically through a

Intracranial osteolipomas and chondromas are rare benign tumors. Forty-five chondromas, mostly supratentorial, have been reported in the literature since 1981, with origins most commonly in the sellar regions. Twenty-one osteolipomas have been described to date, usually located near the tuber cinereum or the corpus callosum. The authors present a case of an osteochondrolipoma arising from the tentorium diagnosed in a pediatric patient at the age of 9 years. The case and treatment are discussed, and a review of the literature is provided.

Osteochondroma is a rare tumor of the mandibular condyle. Much confusion seems to exist in the literature in differentiating these tumors from chondromas as well as condylar hyperplasias. Due to considerable overlapping features between chondromas and condylar hyperplasia, it is likely to get misdiagnosed, thereby resulting in inadvertent errors in the treatment. A case report of a 35 year old male patient with mandibular deviation and malocclusion is presented here. He initially went unnoticed for features of an osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle but was subsequently treated for the sam
