[Primary care enlightenment to local inhabitants--cooperation of medical institution and community pharmacy in treatment of chronic hepatitis C].

Community pharmacy is evolving to provide additional services to patients such as compliance improvement, self-care and OTC consultations and advising on daily activities to supplement medical treatment. Currently in Japan, it has been estimated that 1.5 to 2 million people have chronic hepatitis C. We have attempted to increase the population's knowledge of this important issue with educational brochures about hepatitis C and placing posters encouraging them to ask medical professionals about their health problems. Peg-interferon and ribavirin combination therapy has an efficacy rate of appro

The results of the 1996 ASHP national survey of pharmaceutical services in nonfederal community hospitals are presented and compared with the findings of the 1994 ASHP survey. A questionnaire was mailed to pharmacy directors at hospitals randomly sampled from those registered by the American Hospital Association. A total of 713 usable surveys were returned, for a net response rate of 37.1%. Inpatient pharmaceutical services were provided an average of 17.4 hours per weekday and ambulatory care pharmaceutical services 13.3 hours per weekday. Pharmacy directors were more likely to have duties be

The Role of Community Pharmacies in Seasonal Influenza Vaccination in Syracuse, Italy.

Influenza remains a major public health challenge, and vaccination is the primary strategy to reduce its burden. Community pharmacies have been introduced as additional vaccination providers in Italy, but their contribution remains insufficiently documented. This study assessed the role of community pharmacies in influenza vaccination in the Siracusa Local Health Authority (LHA) across the 2022/23-2024/25 seasons. A retrospective analysis of the local electronic vaccination registry was conducted. All adults vaccinated during the three influenza seasons were included, with a focus on individua

Bridging PrEP access gaps: Mapping geospatial accessibility across the United States and leveraging community pharmacies for expansion.

BACKGROUND: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is key to ending the US HIV epidemic, but uptake remains low. Federal legislation permitting community pharmacists to initiate PrEP nationwide could expand access to PrEP services. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate census tract-level geospatial access to PrEP facilities and community pharmacies across the US and characterize geographic areas and populations where community pharmacies could help bridge the gap in care. METHODS: We identified census tracts with limited or no access ("deserts") to PrEP facilities and community pharmacies in 202

Evaluating Community Pharmacy Responses About Levonorgestrel Emergency Contraception by Mystery Caller Characteristics.

PURPOSE: Since restrictions on nonprescription sales were removed in 2013, levonorgestrel emergency contraception (EC) should be available without a prescription at pharmacies for consumers of all genders and ages. Using mystery callers, we assessed variations in availability of and access to EC. METHODS: In 2015-2016, three sets of mystery callers (two female physicians, two adolescent females, and two adolescent males) each called all licensed retail pharmacies in five U.S. cities using standardized call scripts. Scripts assessed same-day availability and subsequent access to EC for 17-year

Factors influencing pharmacy services in opioid substitution treatment.

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Heroin dependence is a serious health burden in Australia. Opioid substitution treatment (OST) has been delivered in Australian community pharmacies since 1985. The effectiveness of pharmacy-based OST is evident and the demand is increasing; however, the participation rate of community pharmacies is low, with over 60% non-providers. While previous Australian studies have focused on perspectives of community pharmacists providing the service, the views of non-providers have not yet been explored. This study aimed to further investigate factors influencing pharmacists' part

Defining Pharmacy Access: A Review of Pharmacy-Level Research in the United States.

BACKGROUND: Access to pharmacy services is a critical determinant of health care equity, as it directly impacts medication adherence, chronic disease management, and overall health outcomes. Despite the important role of community pharmacies in the United States, disparities in access persist, particularly among rural, minority, and low-income populations. However, there is no consensus on how pharmacy access should be defined or measured, and how these definitions relate to health outcomes. OBJECTIVE: This review evaluates how pharmacy access is defined and measured in US-based studies and e
