A Comparative In Vitro Analysis of Antimicrobial Effectiveness and Compressive Resilience in Chirata and Terminalia arjuna Modified Glass Ionomer Cement.

BACKGROUND: Glass ionomer cements are commonly utilized in dental restorations due to their biocompatibility, strong chemical bond with dental tissues, and ability to resist tooth decay. However, their effectiveness can be compromised by the presence of persistent cavity-causing microorganisms. Therefore, it is essential to consider incorporating antibacterial agents into these restorative materials. Swertia chirayita (S. chirayita) and Terminalia arjuna (T. arjuna) are well-known for their rich composition of phytochemicals that can potentially inhibit the growth of bacteria. Hence, the curre

Self-Healing Bio-Concrete Using Bacillus subtilis Encapsulated in Iron Oxide Nanoparticles.

For the creation of healable cement concrete matrix, microbial self-healing solutions are significantly more creative and potentially successful. The current study investigates whether gram-positive "Bacillus subtilis" (B. subtilis) microorganisms can effectively repair structural and non-structural cracks caused at the nano- and microscale. By creating an effective immobilization strategy in a coherent manner, the primary challenge regarding the viability of such microbes in a concrete mixture atmosphere has been successfully fulfilled. The iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized. The exami

Ultralight, mechanically robust, thermal-insulated and superhydrophobic electrospinning lignin-based nanofiber aerogels.

Lignin-based nanofibers (LNFs) were fabricated via electrospinning using a mixture of lignin and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the spinning solution. Next, the LNFs were sequentially subjected to homogeneous shearing, freeze-drying, in-situ thermal cross-linking, and thermochemical vapor deposition involving treatment with organosilanes to obtain ultralight, mechanically robust, thermal-insulated, and superhydrophobic LNF aerogels (LNFAs). Careful adjustment of the LNF content aided in precise control and optimization of the network structure, density, and porosity of the obtained LNFAs, which ul

Geopolymer Concrete Physical and Mechanical Properties on a Combined Binder Reinforced with Dispersed Polypropylene Fiber.

Geopolymer concrete is a promising construction material that acts as an alternative to cement concrete. Unlike traditional cement concrete, geopolymers are environmentally friendly materials, the production of which does not involve significant carbon dioxide emissions. However, the structure formation and properties of geopolymers significantly depend on raw materials and are insufficiently studied. The aim of the study is to select the optimal combination of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and fly ash (FA) as a binder and the optimal content of polypropylene fiber to create a su

The Improving Role of Basalt Fiber on the Sulfate-Chloride Multiple Induced Degradation of Cast-In-Situ Concrete.

In salt lake areas, the cast-in-situ concrete structure has been corroded by the combination of sulfate and chloride for a long time. The incorporation of basalt fiber materials into concrete helps to improve the durability of concrete. In this paper, experiments were conducted to study the corrosion deterioration mechanisms of basalt fiber-reinforced cast-in-situ concrete under sulfate, chloride, and combined attack. The appearance, size, mass, flexural, and compressive strength of specimens were investigated during the immersion period to determine the changes in the physical and mechanical

Tailoring the mechanical property and cell-biological response of β-tricalcium phosphate composite bioceramics by SrO-P2O5-Na2O based additive.

β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) bioceramic, which is a prevalent bone graft, is deficient in mechanical strength and mediating the biological functions. In the present study, β-tricalcium phosphate composite bioceramics (TCP/SPNs) were prepared by introducing SrO-P2O5-Na2O based (SPN) sintering additive. With increasing mole ratio of SrO to P2O5, the SPN tended to crystallize. In the liquid-phase sintering process, β-TCP reacted with SPN, producing new compounds. The difference in characteristic of SPN additive affected the compressive strength and cell-biological response of the fabricated TCP

Influence of Soft Phase and Carbon Nanotube Content on the Properties of Hierarchical AZ61 Matrix Composite with Isolated Soft Phase.

Carbon nanotube-reinforced magnesium matrix (CNTs/Mg) composite has great application potential in the transportation industry, but the trade-off between strength and ductility inhibits its widespread application. In order to balance the strength and plasticity of the composite, in this work, on the basis of the AZ61 matrix composite homogeneously reinforced by Ni-coated CNTs (hard phase), 30 vol.% large-size AZ61 particles are introduced as an isolated soft phase to fabricate hierarchical CNTs/AZ61 composites. The compression tests show the fracture strain and compressive strength of this com
