Use of ultrasound and cystoscopically guided pancreatic allograft biopsies and transabdominal renal allograft biopsies: safety and efficacy in kidney-pancreas transplant recipients.

The use of allograft biopsies to guide treatment after solid organ transplantation is a valuable tool in the detection and treatment of rejection. Prior development and use of the cystoscopically guided pancreatic allograft biopsy have allowed for more accurate and timely diagnosis of pancreatic allograft dysfunction, possibly contributing to our 1-year pancreas graft, renal allograft and patient survival rates of 87.1%, 88.5% and 96.8%, respectively. We reviewed our experience, examining efficacy and complication rates of pancreas and kidney biopsies in 31 cadaveric pancreas or combined kidne

Complications and outcomes of 25 dogs undergoing surgery for intramural ureteral ectopia via a minimally invasive modified cystoscopic-guided scissor transection.

OBJECTIVES: Ureteral ectopia is a common cause of urinary incontinence in juvenile dogs that is commonly treated with cystoscopic-guided laser ablation due to reduced post-operative pain and hospitalisation time compared with open surgical techniques. However, due to the surgical training and substantial costs relating to laser equipment, this may not always be feasible. This aim of this study was to describe a novel, modified surgical technique for cystoscopic-guided scissor transection of intramural ureteral ectopia detailing the complications and outcomes in dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Si

Single-use digital flexible cystoscope for double J removal versus reusable instruments: a prospective, comparative study of functionality, risk of infection, and costs.

BACKGROUND: The removal of ureteral stent can be performed with disposable or reusable flexible cystoscopes, but limited comparative data are available on functionality, risk of infections, and costs. METHODS: We performed a multicentric, prospective, observational study on patients undergoing in-office ureteral stent removal with Isiris-α® or a reusable Storz™ flexible cystoscope. Study endpoints were the functionality and effectiveness of the devices, the rate of postoperative bacteriuria and UTIs, and the costs of the procedure. RESULTS: A total of 135 patients were included, 80 (59.2%) t

Routine short-term ureteral stent in living donor renal transplantation: introduction of a simple stent removal technique without using anesthesia and cystoscope.

OBJECTIVE: We evaluated routine short-time insertion of ureteral stent in living donor renal transplant at a single center. It was easy to remove the stent without cystoscopy and anesthesia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between October 2007 and July 2010, a single surgeon performed 76 living donor renal transplantations at one institute. All recipients underwent extravesical ureteroneocystostomy with a 2-0 silk suture passed through the venting side hole of the double-J stent into the bladder; a quadruple knot prevented the suture's slippage or distraction from the stent. After removal of the indwe

Combined Cystoscopic-Abdominal Versus Abdominal-Only Route for Complete Excision of Large Deep Endometriosis Nodules Infiltrating the Supratrigonal Area of the Bladder: A Comparative Study.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: Surgical excision of large deep endometriosis nodules infiltrating the bladder may be challenging, particularly when the nodule limits are close to the trigone and ureteral orifice. Bladder nodules have classically been approached abdominally. However, combining a cystoscopic with an abdominal approach may help to better identify the mucosal borders of the lesion to ensure complete excision without unnecessary resection of healthy bladder. This study aimed to compare classical excision of large bladder nodules by abdominal route with a combined cystoscopic-abdominal approach.

Optimal timing for the first cystoscopic follow-up using time-to-treatment initiation analysis of oncologic outcomes in primary non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Various guidelines recommend the first follow-up cystoscopy at 3 months; however, no data exist on the optimal timing for initial follow-up cystoscopy. We tried to provide evidence on the timing of the first cystoscopy after the initial transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TUR-BT) for patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) using big data. This was a retrospective National Health Insurance Service database analysis. The following outcomes were considered: recurrence, progression, cancer-specific mortality, and all-cause mortality. Exposure was the time-to-treatment initia

Hand-assisted laparoscopic nephroureterectomy with cystoscopic en-bloc excision of the distal ureter and bladder cuff and isthmusectomy in a horseshoe kidney for invasive urothelial carcinoma of the renal pelvis.

Upper tract invasive urothelial carcinoma and horseshoe kidneys are familiar to the practicing urologist but relatively rare individual entities. The complication of managing them when they coexist in the same patient can be challenging. Herein, we present the first reported case in which an upper tract invasive urothelial carcinoma in a horseshoe kidney was successfully managed with a combined hand-assisted laparoscopic nephroureterectomy and isthmusectomy with cystoscopic en-bloc excision of the distal ureter and bladder cuff. This highlights the fact that complex anatomy can be managed in a

Three-dimensional cell groups with disordered nuclei and cellular discohesion (3DDD) are associated with high sensitivity and specificity for cystoscopic urine cytopathological diagnosis of low-grade urothelial neoplasia.

Cystoscopic urine obtained before the resection of low-grade urothelial carcinoma (LGUC), with adequate cytological sampling of the tumor, frequently revealed the presence of three-dimensional cell groups with disordered nuclei and cellular discohesion (3DDD). 936 cystoscopic urine specimens were categorized into five groups: Group 1 (80 specimens) with biopsy-proven LGUC within 6 months of cytologic examination, Group 2 (23 specimens) with biopsy proven LGUC within 6 to 36 months of cytologic examination, Group 3 (527 specimens) with a history of LGUC but no tumor for a period of greater than
