The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of microtubular-microfilament (MT-MF) modifying agents on gastrin release from antral mucosal cells maintained for 3 days under tissue culture conditions. Gastrin levels in the media, determined by radioimmunoassay, were monitored at hourly intervals for 6-8-hr periods. Colchicine, 1 mM, produced mild depression in media gastrin levels and completely inhibited dcAMP-theophylline-induced gastrin release. Ethyl alcohol depressed secretion of gastrin. Acute gout may be associated with fever but activation of EP production by crystalline urate in vivo has not been previously reported. We found that crystalline urate or silica stimulated macrophages but not PMNs to produce EP, without mediation by lymphocytes. We investigated some effects of prostaglandin E1 on the metabolism of rat parathyroid glands using a culture system containing basal Eagle's medium supplemented with 5--10% heat-inactivated rat serum. Macrophage cultures pulsed with viable Mycobacterium leprae were assessed for erythrocyte rosetting in three groups of individuals, i.e., normal subjects, and tuberculoid and lepromatous patients.
