Efficacy and Safety of Topical Morphine: A Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Opioids are the cornerstone of the therapy used in both acute and chronic pain syndromes to treat pain of moderate to severe intensity. The knowledge that opioid receptors also occur in other tissues outside the central nervous system has created a possibility for the topical use of opioids. Thus, local analgesia may be obtained without systemic adverse effects. METHODS: A narrative review of scientific papers discussing the topical use of morphine was conducted. For this purpose, the PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and Mendeley databases were searched. RESULTS: The cur

TCM nonpharmacological interventions for ankylosing spondylitis: A protocol for systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a common infammatory rheumatic disease that affects the axial skeleton. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) nonpharmacological interventions are gaining an increasing popularity for AS. Nevertheless, the evidence of efficacy and safety of random controlled trials (RCTs) remains controversial. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of different TCM nonpharmacological therapies by systematic review and network meta-analysis. METHODS: According to the strategy, the authors will retrieve a total of 7 electronic databases by December 20

CONSTANCES, the French nationwide population cohort: major accomplishments.

The CONSTANCES cohort is an epidemiological research infrastructure accessible to the international epidemiologic research community (doi.org/ https://doi.org/10.13143/inserm_constances ). CONSTANCES also provides public health authorities with data regarding prevalence of numerous health conditions and determinants among the French population. CONSTANCES comprises a representative sample of about 220,000 French adults aged 18-69 at enrolment (7.6% participation rate). Follow-up begins at enrolment and is intended to last for the lifetimes of study participants. At inclusion, the selected subj

Quality of Life in Patients with Phenylketonuria: A Systematic Review.

The impact of phenylketonuria (PKU) on Quality of life (QoL) has been a topic of interest in recent research. This article reviews current researches on the impact of PKU on QoL. The review examines factors that may influence QoL, such as age, metabolic control, and treatment adherence. In this systematic review study, relevant articles were identified using a search strategy built with the keywords phenylketonuria, PKU, or hyperphenylalaninemia (or their synonyms) and QoL in Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed databases. After identifying the articles, duplicates, reviews, scientific abstracts

Bacterial and Viral Rodent-borne Infections on Poultry Farms. An Attempt at a Systematic Review.

INTRODUCTION: Rodents are quite common at livestock production sites. Their adaptability, high reproductive capacity and omnivorousness make them apt to become a source of disease transmission to humans and animals. Rodents can serve as mechanical vectors or active shedders of many bacteria and viruses, and their transmission can occur through direct contact, or indirectly through contaminated food and water or by the arthropods which parasitise infected rodents. This review paper summarises how rodents spread infectious diseases in poultry production. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The aim of this re

Publication rates of registered strabismus trials from ClinicalTrials.gov.

Presently, little is known regarding the characteristics and publication rates of registered strabismus trials from ClinicalTrials.gov. We queried registered strabismus trials that were completed prior to January 1, 2021, from ClinicalTrials.gov. Publication of trials in peer-reviewed journals was confirmed using PubMed.gov, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Google Scholar. Of the 117 trials found, only 69 (59%) were published with a publication delay of nearly 2.5 years. Interventional trials were associated with publication status compared with observational trials. The low publication rates and signi

Comprehensive database and individual patient data meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials on psychotherapies reducing suicidal thoughts and behaviour: study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Psychotherapy may reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviour, but its effectiveness is not well examined. Furthermore, conventional meta-analyses are unable to test possible effects of moderators affecting this relationship. This protocol outlines the building of a comprehensive database of the literature in this research field. In addition, we will conduct an individual patient data meta-analysis (IPD-MA) to establish the effectiveness of psychotherapy in reducing suicidality, and to examine which factors moderate the efficacy of these interventions. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: To build

Identifying randomized clinical trials in Spanish-language dermatology journals.

INTRODUCTION: The necessary foundation for good clinical practice lies in knowledge derived from clinical research. Evidence from randomized clinical trials (RCTs) is the pillar on which decisions about therapy are based. OBJECTIVE: To search exhaustively and rigorously to identify RCTs in dermatology journals published in Spanish. METHODS: We located dermatology journals through the following search engines and indexes: PubMed, LILACS, SciELO, Periódica, Latindex, Índice Médico Español, C-17, IBECS, EMBASE, and IMBIOMED. We also sought information through dermatology associations and dermat

Nonoperative treatment for pain sensitization in patients with low back pain: protocol for a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a disability that occurs worldwide. It is a heterogeneous disorder that affects patients with dominant nociceptive, neuropathic, and central sensitization pain. An important pathophysiology of low back pain involves pain sensitization. Various nonoperative interventions are available for treatment, but there is inconclusive evidence on the effectiveness of these interventions for pain sensitization, leading to arbitrary nonoperative treatments for low back pain. METHODS: We will conduct a systematic review of RCTs evaluating the effectiveness and safety of nonoper
