Zygomatic implants/fixture: a systematic review.

Patients with moderate to severe atrophy challenge the surgeon to discover alternative ways to use existing bone or resort to augmenting the patient with autogenous or alloplastic bone materials. Many procedures have been suggested for these atrophied maxillae before implant placement, which include Le Fort I maxillary downfracture, onlay bone grafts and maxillary sinus graft procedures. A zygomatic implant can be an effective device for rehabilitation of the severely resorbed maxilla. If zygomatic implants are used, onlay bone grafting or sinus augmentation would likely not be necessary. The

Implant/Abutment Biomechanics and Material Selection for Predictable Results.

Change in crestal bone height and volume around endosseous dental implants is a complex issue involving interactions among many variables such as surgical approach, patient health, volume of hard and soft tissues, and implant configuration. Establishing and maintaining a soft-tissue seal around transmucosal abutments on bone-level implants or on the collar of one-stage tissue-level implants is paramount to maintaining crestal bone height, and failing to do so will result in apical migration of the soft tissue onto the implant. Bone-level implants have been constructed with many connection conf

Assessment of Dental Implant Stability in Areas Previously Submitted to Maxillary Sinus Elevation.

This study aimed to compare the primary and secondary stability, measured by resonance frequency analysis (RFA), in implants of different lengths installed in areas submitted to maxillary sinus lift. Correlation between RFA and implant insertion torque was also assessed. Twenty implants of 9 and 11 mm were inserted in areas submitted to maxillary sinus lift. The insertion torque was measured by the Bien Air motor. Osstell, through RFA, determined the implant stability quotient (ISQ) 2 times: the day of implant installation (T1) and 90 days after implant installation (T2). No differences were o

Usefulness of Wedge-Shaped Implants in the Full-Arch Rehabilitation of Severe Maxillary Atrophy: A Case Report.

The management of marked horizontal bone atrophy represents a critical challenge for traditional implantology procedures. For this purpose, clinicians have developed several protocols and procedures to allow the most suitable and accurate surgical and prosthetic implant rehabilitation. Despite the development of guided bone regeneration methods and the use of small-diameter implants, the rehabilitation of thin bone areas is a clinical dilemma for the medium- and long-term survival of implant-prosthetic therapies. This clinical case evaluates the use of wedge-shaped implants for the full-arch r
