Reparative hard tissue formation following calcium hydroxide application after partial pulpotomy in cariously exposed pulps of permanent teeth.

In a prospective study, partial pulpotomy was performed on six permanent molars with deep carious lesions and pulpal involvement. The bleeding pulp was irrigated with normal tap water until bleeding had stopped and the exposed pulp was covered with calcium hydroxide followed by zinc oxide eugenol, and finally covered with a semipermanent restoration. All teeth showed hard tissue barrier formation, both clinically and radiographically, within three months and were free from subjective and objective symptoms through the observation period (average observation period was 26 months). The patients

Healing of pulp exposures: an ultrastructural study.

The fine structure of tissue changes during the first 14 days following pulp exposure and capping with a hard setting Ca(OH)2 cement has been studied. The early changes included hemorrhage and moderate inflammation which were largely resolved during the first week. During the second week differentiation of cells occurred at the wound surface. These cells had the characteristic features of odontoblasts and formed a predentin-like collagen matrix. The capping material was closely adapted to cellular structures at the wound surface or to the predentin-like matrix at all observation periods. Denti

Interleukin-1 alpha stimulates interstitial collagenase gene expression in human dental pulp fibroblast.

Interstitial collagenase (matrix metalloprotease-1) is a member of a family of matrix metalloproteases and is thought to play a role in degradation of the extracellular components, such as collagens in normal extracellular matrix remodeling and in many disease processes. We examined interstitial collagenase mRNA expression in human dental pulp fibroblast cultures by Northern blot analysis. These cells did not express interstitial collagenase mRNA in an unstimulated condition. Inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1 alpha, induced interstitial collagenase mRNA expression in these cells. T

Evaluation of the biological effect of mineral trioxide aggregate in inflamed pulp-in vivo analysis.

The health of dental pulp tissue is critical to maintaining normal tooth function from the eruption of permanent teeth to the formation of the apex. The study evaluated the inflamed pulp response to the mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) after direct pulp capping with the mechanical pulp exposure in rats' incisor. Forty-eight mandibular central incisors of twenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats which were prepared with the cavities of one mm diameter, and the pulp exposures were randomly assigned into two groups: MTA group and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) group. The direct pulp capping was performed aft

Histological analysis of rat dental pulp tissue capped with propolis.

The aim of the present study was to assess the response of rat dental pulp to direct pulp capping with propolis. Flavonoid and non-flavonoid materials were purified from an ethanol extract of propolis obtained from South Sulawesi, Indonesia. A Class I cavity was prepared on the occlusal surface of the right maxillary first molar in Sprague Dawley rats. The dental pulp was exposed and then capped with a zinc oxide-based filler as a control (group I), or with propolis flavonoids (group II) or non-flavonoids (group III). The animals were sacrificed at week 1, 2 or 4, biopsy samples were obtained,

The clinical meaning of external cervical resorption in maxillary canine: transoperative dental trauma.

External Cervical Resorption in maxillary canines with pulp vitality is frequently associated with dental trauma resulting from surgical procedures carried out to prepare the teeth for further orthodontic traction. Preparation procedures might surgically manipulate the cementoenamel junction or cause luxation of teeth due to applying excessive force or movement tests beyond the tolerance limits of periodontal ligament and cervical tissue structures. Dentin exposure at the cementoenamel junction triggers External Cervical Resorption as a result of inflammation followed by antigen recognition of

ROS-responsive hydrogel for treating pulpitis: Localized immunometabolic regulation by dimethyl itaconate promotes reparative dentin formation.

Pulpitis is a common inflammatory disease of the dental pulp in which excessive inflammation and oxidative stress severely compromise the regenerative capacity of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), posing a major challenge for successful vital pulp therapy. Herein, we report an immunometabolic strategy that combines dimethyl itaconate (DMI) with a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive injectable hydrogel to modulate the inflammatory microenvironment and promote functional pulp regeneration. We demonstrated that DMI effectively suppressed lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory cytokine e

Appearance and distribution of dendritic cells and macrophages in dental pulp during early postnatal morphogenesis of mouse mandibular first molars.

Dendritic cells and macrophages were examined in dental pulp during the postnatal development of mouse mandibular first molars, by immuno- and enzyme histochemistry. F4/80 antibody against dendritic cells and macrophages demonstrated labeled cells predominantly in and around the odontoblastic layer during tooth development from postnatal day 0 (PN0) to PN5. Labeling with Mac-1, Mac-2, and MOMA-2 antibodies against macrophages showed varied distribution patterns. Mac-1-positive cells were not detected in the dental pulp. Mac-2-positive cells appeared in the dental pulp at PN0, but not in or aro
