Dimensionality tuning of the electronic structure in Fe3Ga4 magnetic materials.

This work reports on the dimensionality effects on the magnetic behavior of Fe3Ga4 compounds by means of magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and specific heat measurements. Our results show that reducing the Fe3Ga4 dimensionality, via nanowire shape, intriguingly modifies its electronic structure. In particular, the bulk system exhibits two transitions, a ferromagnetic (FM) transition temperature at T1 = 50 K and an antiferromagnetic (AFM) one at T2 = 390 K. On the other hand, nanowires shift these transition temperatures, towards higher and lower temperature for T1 and T2, respec

Evaluation of different classification methods using electronic nose data to diagnose sarcoidosis.

Electronic nose (eNose) technology is an emerging diagnostic application, using artificial intelligence to classify human breath patterns. These patterns can be used to diagnose medical conditions. Sarcoidosis is an often difficult to diagnose disease, as no standard procedure or conclusive test exists. An accurate diagnostic model based on eNose data could therefore be helpful in clinical decision-making. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the performance of various dimensionality reduction methods and classifiers in order to design an accurate diagnostic model for sarcoidosis. Various meth

Prognosis prediction of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma using conditional variational autoencoder on 3D PET images and clinical data.

BACKGROUND: Deep learning (DL) has been widely used for diagnosis and prognosis prediction of numerous frequently occurring diseases. Generally, DL models require large datasets to perform accurate and reliable prognosis prediction and avoid overlearning. However, prognosis prediction of rare diseases is still limited owing to the small number of cases, resulting in small datasets. PURPOSE: This paper proposes a multimodal DL method to predict the prognosis of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) with a small number of 3D positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT)

Diagnostic yield and multivariable-dimensionality analysis of head trauma decision rules in infants under 3 months.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in infants under 3 months is rare but potentially severe, and clinical decision-making is complicated by nonspecific symptoms and limited neurologic assessment. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic yield of PECARN, CATCH, and CHALICE rules. METHODS: This single-center retrospective study included infants aged 0-3 months who underwent cranial CT following blunt head trauma between January 2020 and December 2023. Clinical and radiological data were extracted from medical records, and each case was retrospectively evaluated using the PECARN, CATCH,

PVAED: prior-guided variational autoencoders with diffusion denoising for interpretable single-cell representation learning.

Single-cell RNA sequencing data rely heavily on dimensionality reduction methods to uncover underlying structures and patterns. Nonlinear dimensionality-reduction methods such as uniform manifold approximation and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding have been routinely used for this task. However, gene expression data alone often fails to capture and identify changes in cellular pathways, protein complexes, and TF-targets, which are more enlightening at the regulation level. To address this limitation, we present PVAED, a dimensionality reduction framework that integrates biological pr

Modeling Functional Brain Networks for ADHD via Spatial Preservation-Based Neural Architecture Search.

Modeling functional brain networks (FBNs) for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has sparked significant interest since the abnormal functional connectivity is discovered in certain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)-based brain regions compared to typical developmental control (TC) individuals. However, existing models for modeling FBNs generally use dimensionality reduction techniques to process the high dimensional input data, which results in confusion and an inaccurate representation of voxel interactions between spatially close brain regions, causing misdiagnosis o

SMORE: joint dimension reduction and cell population discovery on single-cell methylome data.

Single-cell DNA methylation profiling technology captures novel epigenetic data modality but are challenging to analyze because of their heterogeneity, high dimensionality, and ultra-sparsity. Here we present SMORE (Single-cell MethylOme Reduction and Embedding), a computational method for joint dimensionality reduction and cell population discovery dedicated to single-cell DNA methylation data. SMORE operates on a Bayesian framework that converts methylation proportions into ordered methylation states and jointly infers a low-dimensional representation, cell populations and their number. Integrative, high-resolution analysis of single cell gene expression across experimental conditions with PARAFAC2-RISE.

Effective and scalable exploration and analysis tools are vital for the extraction of insights from large-scale single-cell data. However, current techniques for modeling single-cell studies performed across experimental conditions (e.g., samples, perturbations, or patients) require restrictive assumptions, lack flexibility, or do not adequately deconvolute condition-to-condition variation from cell-to-cell variation. Here, we report that Reduction and Insight in Single-cell Exploration (RISE), an adaptation of the tensor decomposition method PARAFAC2, enables the dimensionality reduction and

Donor-Recipient Matching for Kidney Transplantation Using Uncertainty Estimation in Generalized Propensity Score.

Kidney donor-recipient matching is a complex process influenced by various clinical and demographic factors, requiring advanced techniques for effective allocation. This study explores the use of Generalized Propensity Score (GPS) modeling with uncertainty estimation and Sufficient Dimensionality Reduction (SDR) methods to enhance matching strategies. We evaluated several dimensionality reduction techniques using Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Pearson Correlation (PC). The regression method (MLP) showed the best performance with the lowest RMSE (1163) and highest PC (0.23) with single dime

Performance enhancement of classifiers through Bio inspired feature selection methods for early detection of lung cancer from microarray genes.

Gene expression in the microarray is assimilated with redundant and high-dimensional information. Moreover, the information in the microarray genes mostly correlates with background noise. This paper uses dimensionality reduction and feature selection methods to employ a classification methodology for high-dimensional lung cancer microarray data. The approach is enforced in two phases; initially, the genes are dimensionally reduced through Hilbert Transform, Detrend Fluctuation Analysis and Least Square Linear Regression methods. The dimensionally reduced data is further optimized in the next

Unsupervised learning reveals novel disease-associated proteins in high-dimensional human proteomic data.

Modern advancements in precision medicine have led to the generation of vast proteomic datasets, capturing the concentrations of thousands of proteins across tens of thousands of participants. These datasets are traditionally processed using supervised learning methods due to their relative simplicity to implement and assess the output. However, this approach can sometimes overlook subtle patterns that might offer deeper insights. In contrast, unsupervised learning, while capable of revealing hidden relationships, struggles with the challenge of high dimensionality, meaning that brute-force an

CD161 expression defines new human γδ T cell subsets.

γδ T cells are a highly versatile immune lineage involved in host defense and homeostasis, but questions remain around their heterogeneity, precise function and role during health and disease. We used multi-parametric flow cytometry, dimensionality reduction, unsupervised clustering, and self-organizing maps (SOM) to identify novel γδ T cell naïve/memory subsets chiefly defined by CD161 expression levels, a surface membrane receptor that can be activating or suppressive. We used middle-to-old age individuals given immune blockade is commonly used in this population. Whilst most Vδ1+subset cell

GMDH-based feature ranking and selection for improved classification of medical data.

Medical applications are often characterized by a large number of disease markers and a relatively small number of data records. We demonstrate that complete feature ranking followed by selection can lead to appreciable reductions in data dimensionality, with significant improvements in the implementation and performance of classifiers for medical diagnosis. We describe a novel approach for ranking all features according to their predictive quality using properties unique to learning algorithms based on the group method of data handling (GMDH). An abductive network training algorithm is repeat

Optical anisotropy enables skyrmions for robust information encoding.

Skyrmions are typically tied to sphere-valued vector fields. Here, researchers break this paradigm by generalizing their construction through parameter space dimensionality reduction and realizing it in structured optical anisotropy, which enables directly readable and perturbation robust skyrmionic states for topological information encoding.

A comparative study of manifold learning methods for scRNA-seq with a trajectory-aware metric.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) enables detailed analysis of cellular diversity, but the data's high dimensionality presents analytical challenges. We compare four dimensionality reduction methods-PCA, t-SNE, UMAP, and Diffusion Maps-on three benchmark scRNA-seq datasets (PBMC3k, Pancreas, and BAT). In addition to standard evaluations, we introduce a new metric, Trajectory-Aware Embedding Score (TAES), which jointly measures clustering accuracy and preservation of developmental trajectories. Our findings show that each method offers distinct advantages: PCA is fast but linear, t-SNE and

Optimization assisted framework for thyroid detection and classification: A new ensemble technique.

Ultrasound (US) is an inexpensive and non-invasive technique for capturing the image of the thyroid gland and nearby tissue. The classification and detection of thyroid disorders is still in its infant stage. This study aims to present a new thyroid diagnosis approach, which consists of three phases like "(i) feature extraction, (ii) feature dimensionality reduction, and (iii) classification". Initially, the thyroid images as well as its related data are given as input. From the input image, the features such as" Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix(GLCM), Grey level Run Length Matrix(GLRM), propos

Dimensionality-Driven Metal-to-Insulator Transition in Two-Dimensional Antiferromagnetic R-Cr2Se3.

The integration of magnetism and semiconductivity in a single material remains a central challenge in condensed matter physics, as conventional approaches struggle to reconcile the competing requirements of a finite bandgap and robust magnetic ordering. Here, we report a complementary strategy that inverts the traditional design logic: starting from a magnetic metal, we induce a controlled metal-to-insulator transition (MIT) through dimensionality reduction in two-dimensional (2D) layers. Using rhombohedral (r-)Cr2Se3 as a model system, we show that thinning from bulk to atomically thin nanosh
