Solitary colonic diverticula are rare. Most have been described in the cecum or ascending colon. Solitary diverticula of the transverse colon are extremely rare, and there are only a few reports in the English medical literature, all occurring in adulthood. This paper reports the case of a 13-year-old girl with a solitary, true diverticulum of the transverse colon, presenting as acute diverticulitis.

A case of multiple appendiceal diverticula seen by barium enema is reported. Five diverticula were clearly demonstrated. The patient was asymptomatic. Most diverticula of the appendix have been found at laparotomy for complicated appendicitis. We believe that prophylactic appendectomy should be performed to prevent complications.

Female urethral diverticulum is an uncommon pathologic entity. An 80-year-old woman who underwent left hemicolectomy for descending colon cancer 2 years ago was referred for FDG PET/CT for restaging. FDG PET/CT showed a hypodense FDG-avid periurethral lesion suspicious for malignancy. Five patients under the age of 21 years are described in whom a Meckel's diverticulum was found in association with angiodysplasia of the caecum or ascending colon. Angiodysplasia has only been observed previously in patients over the age of 35 years and its demonstration in 5 young patients with Meckel's diverticulum points not only to an association between the two disorders, but suggests that angiodysplasia may have a congenital aetiology.

Giant colonic diverticulum is a rare condition, and the usual site is the sigmoid colon. In this report, magnetic resonance imaging was performed in a patient with lower abdominal pain. We report herein the case of a 70-year-old woman who presented with massive bleeding from multiple jejunal diverticula. She was initially admitted to our hospital with massive melena. Between 1966 und 1975 42 children and 46 adults were operated on Meckel's diverticulum. The diverticulum is explained as one of the possible disturbances during regression of ductus omphaloentericus. The appendicitis-like symptomatology correlates to the involvement of gastric and colonic mucosa as well as heterotopic exo- and endocrine tissue of the pancreas in the wall of the diverticulum. This report describes the case of a patient with acute ulcerative colitis who underwent an emergency colectomy and removal of an incidental Meckel's diverticulum which appeared inflamed. Histology showed acute inflammation of colonic epithelium within the Meckel's diverticulum, justifying its removal and confirming that this was indeed a 'skip lesion'.

Diversion colitis and ulcerative colitis (UC) can be caused by different mechanisms; however, several case reports have described the development of typical UC following diversion colitis. A 23-year-old male presented with occult gastrointestinal bleeding and iron deficiency anemia. A Tc-99m pertechnetate abdominal scan was positive and surgery revealed an adenocarcinoma of the cecum. No Meckel's diverticulum was identified. This is the first reported association of an abnormal Tc-99m pertechnetate scan in adenocarcinoma. Carcinoma of the right colon should be considered in any patient with a positive pertechnetate scan for Meckel's diverticulum and suggestive clinical features.

Inflammation of a solitary diverticulum of the right colon is uncommon; approximately 500 cases have been reported. A 72-year-old woman underwent laparotomy for possible appendicitis. Unexpectedly, a mass was found in the ascending colon close to the ileocecal junction. Carcinoma was suspected and right hemicolectomy was done. The pathological diagnosis was acute suppurative solitary diverticulitis with perforation and pericolic abscess.
