Treatment strategies with electrochemotherapy for limb in-transit melanoma: Real-world outcomes from a European, retrospective, cohort study.

BACKGROUND: This study analysed treatment strategies with electrochemotherapy (ECT) in melanoma with limb in-transit metastases (ITM). METHODS: We audited AJCC v.8 stage IIIB-IIID patients treated across 22 centres (2006-2020) within the International Network for Sharing Practices of ECT (InspECT). RESULTS: 452 patients were included, 58 % pre-treated (93 % had lower limb ITM, 44 % had ≤10 metastases [median size 1.5 cm]. Treatment strategies included first-line ECT (n = 145, 32 %), ECT with concurrent locoregional/systemic treatment (n = 163, 36 %), and salvage ECT (n = 144, 32 %). The obje

Adjuvant skin-sparing electrochemotherapy in a breast cancer patient with a prosthetic implant: 5-year follow-up outcomes.

A 55-year-old woman with previous skin-sparing mastectomy and prosthetic reconstruction for multifocal ductal carcinoma developed homolateral axillary recurrence. Following nodal dissection, partial periprosthetic capsulectomy and the overlying breast skin excision, the pathology report revealed a positive cutaneous margin. Since further breast skin excision or radiotherapy would have compromised the prosthetic implant, and the patient was adamant about avoiding any endangering intervention, the multidisciplinary recommendation included skin-directed electrochemotherapy (ECT) in the frame of a

Electrochemotherapy efficacy evaluation for treatment of locally advanced stage III cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: a 22-cases retrospective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Extensive squamous cell carcinoma has few therapeutic options. In such cases, electrochemotherapy involving electroporation combined with antineoplastic drug appears to be a new potential option and may be considered as an alternative treatment. The aim of this retrospective single-center study was to evaluate electrochemotherapy efficacy in treatment of locally advanced stage III squamous cell carcinoma, in which surgical procedures would have entailed wide tissue sacrifice. METHODS: Clinical features, treatment response, and adverse effects were evaluated in 22 patients treated

Alternatives for the treatment of local advanced disease: electrochemotherapy, limb perfusion, limb infusion, intralesional IL2. What is the role?

Nowadays, melanoma is one of the most common fatal malignancy of young adults. Incidence is increasing, but mortality rates from melanoma have remained stable. In-transit metastases from extremity or trunk melanoma are subcutaneous or cutaneous deposits of melanoma distant from the primary site, but not reaching the draining nodal basin. According to American Joint Committee on Cancer classification of stages based on Tumor, Node, Metastases classification stages IIIb and IIIc are considered local advanced disease and survival outcomes is quite poor, with 5-year survival rates of 24-54%. Locoregional Treatment of Bone Metastases in a Lung Cancer Patient: A Case Report Using Multiple Techniques: Electrochemotherapy, Cryoablation, and Cementoplasty.

Background and Clinical Significance: Bone involvement is a common and debilitating manifestation of advanced malignancies, with a substantial negative impact on patients' functional status, quality of life, and overall prognosis. Management is primarily palliative and may include several locoregional approaches such as radiotherapy, surgical stabilization, cementoplasty, thermal or cryoablation, and high-intensity focused ultrasound. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an emerging non-thermal ablative technique that combines limited invasiveness with short procedural times and a favorable safety pro

Long-Term Outcome of Electrochemotherapy in the Treatment of Advanced Stages (T3-T4) of Feline Nasal Planum Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Electrochemotherapy is increasingly used as a locoregional treatment for feline squamous cell carcinoma, but its role in advanced nasal planum disease remains poorly defined. This retrospective study evaluated the long-term outcome of ECT as a sole treatment modality in 18 cats with T3-T4N0M0 nasal planum squamous cell carcinoma. Adverse events were assessed according to VCOG-CTCAE v2. Response was assessed using RECIST v1.1 criteria, and progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and time to progression (TTP) were analysed using Kaplan-Meier methods. At the end of treatment, 72.2%

The activity and safety of electrochemotherapy in persistent chest wall recurrence from breast cancer after mastectomy: a phase-II study.

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) represents an attractive locoregional therapy for unresectable chest wall recurrence (CWR) from breast cancer. Thirty-five patients with cutaneous CWR after mastectomy who experienced progression despite re-irradiation and extensive systemic treatments were administered bleomycin-based ECT. Local response, toxicity, and superficial control were evaluated. Out of 516 metastases (median 15/patient, range 1-50), response was assessed on 196 target lesions (median size 20 mm, range 10-220). Patients received a median of 2 ECT courses (range 1-3). Two-month objective respo

Electrochemotherapy with interleukin-12 gene electrotransfer can turn local tumor ablation into a systemic antitumor response in veterinary patients.

Veterinary medicine serves as an important translational bridge between preclinical studies and human medicine, offering a valuable model for investigating naturally occurring diseases and generating data unattainable from purely experimental animal models. This is particularly relevant for evaluating novel cancer treatment approaches. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) and gene electrotransfer represent 2 such approaches in both human and veterinary clinical oncology. Current evidence indicates that ECT achieves excellent local ablative control of treated tumors; however, its principal limitation is t

European e-Delphi process to define expert consensus on electrochemotherapy treatment indications, procedural aspects, and quality indicators in melanoma.

BACKGROUND: Skin metastases are an important co-morbidity in melanoma. Despite broad adoption, electrochemotherapy implementation is hindered by a lack of treatment indications, uncertainty regarding procedural aspects, and the absence of quality indicators. An expert consensus may harmonize the approach among centres and facilitate comparison with other therapies. METHODS: An interdisciplinary panel was recruited for a three-round e-Delphi survey. A literature-based 113-item questionnaire was proposed to 160 professionals from 53 European centres. Participants rated each item for relevance a

Efficacy and safety of electrochemotherapy in the treatment of cutaneous and sub-cutaneous recurrence from breast cancer: A single-center cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous and subcutaneous recurrence of breast cancer represents a challenging clinical scenario, particularly in patients previously treated with surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapies. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) combines electroporation with cytotoxic drug administration and has shown promising local control rates; however, evidence in breast cancer remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ECT in patients with breast cancer skin recurrence. METHODS: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study including patients with histological

Combination of Pembrolizumab with Electrochemotherapy in Cutaneous Metastases from Melanoma: A Comparative Retrospective Study from the InspECT and Slovenian Cancer Registry.

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an effective locoregional therapy for cutaneous melanoma metastases and has been safely combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors in preliminary experiences. Since ECT is known to induce immunogenic cell death, its combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors might be beneficial. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of ECT on cutaneous melanoma metastases in combination with pembrolizumab. We undertook a retrospective matched cohort analysis of stage IIIC-IV melanoma patients, included in the International Network for sharing practices of ECT
