THE CONTEMPORARY ISSUE: Clinical and regulatory interest in psychedelic-assisted therapy has created an educational challenge for nursing. Nurses may encounter people receiving treatment in research, regulated services, ketamine-related care or unregulated settings, yet curricula were not designed for the pharmacological, relational, ethical and governance questions involved.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR NURSING EDUCATION: The supporting clinical evidence is promising but contested, and the substances grouped under the broad psychedelic label differ in mechanism, legal status and monitoring requirement

AIM: This study aimed to assess the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) among emergency department nurses.
DESIGN: The study has a cross-sectional design.
METHODS: A screening model was used to assess the risk of type 2 DM among nurses working in the emergency departments of public institutions in a province. Data were collected using a descriptive information form and the Finnish Diabetes Risk Questionnaire (FINDRISK). FINDRISK is an eight-item questionnaire used to assess DM risk, with a minimum score of 0 and a maximum score of 26. Risk categories are defined as follows: very high (≥ 20

Canadians' mental health has deteriorated over the past decade, increasing MH-related conditions and ED use. Evidence indicates that EDs are ill-suited to managing complex MH needs, negatively affecting care quality and nurses' experiences. Nurses face challenges including fear of violence, limited MH training, and insufficient organizational support. This study aimed to explore nurses' experiences and identify factors that contribute to or hinder their ability to care for individuals with MH concerns in the ED. Using a focused ethnography approach, we collected data mainly through semi-struct

BACKGROUND: Effective pain management is a fundamental aspect of prehospital emergency care. However, numerous barriers, including inconsistent protocols, limited pharmacological options, and documentation gaps, hinder optimal pain relief. Emergency medical services (EMS) nurses play a crucial role in assessing and managing pain, yet their perspectives on prehospital analgesia remain underexplored.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the experiences and perceptions of Italian EMS nurses regarding prehospital pain management, identifying key challenges and potential improvements.
METHODS: A

AIM: Missed nursing care (MNC) is a global and important phenomenon in nursing and is universally used as an indicator of the quality of nursing care. However, no precise definition is available for this concept's dimensions and clinical features during an emerging infectious disease. This study aims to furnish a comprehensive evidence-based definition of MNC in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
DESIGN: A concept analysis paper.
METHODS: This study was conducted using an integrative approach to the concept analysis of Walker and Avant. In the literature review stage, the databases CINAHL

BACKGROUND: Self-harm is a significant public health issue and a key focus of health policies globally. Emergency departments (EDs) often see self-harm cases, with emergency nurses playing a crucial role. However, care is inconsistent and substandard due to a lack of evidence-based practices and mixed attitudes among nurses.
OBJECTIVE: To understand the social context of emergency nurses' practice with self-harm patients by synthesising qualitative research findings.
METHOD: Noblit and Hare's meta-ethnography method was used to synthesise qualitative studies. Three databases (PsychINFO, CINA

AIM: To describe how the potential presence of cognitive biases in emergency nurses may influence the triage process in people experiencing homelessness compared to those who were not.
DESIGN: Qualitative descriptive design using observations and interviews.
METHODS: Twelve emergency department nurses participated in interviews after being observed for over 128 triage patient interactions. Qualitative content analysis was used for observation data and thematic analysis was used for interview data. Findings were compared to identify differences and similarities between the observed presence o

INTRODUCTION: Cognitive impairment in older adults is underrecognized in emergency departments. Despite emergency nurses' central role in facilitating ED screening for clinical and social needs, little is known about their perspectives on implementing delirium and dementia screenings. Nurses can provide insights to promote the uptake of these screenings.
METHODS: Using a case study approach, we conducted qualitative interviews with emergency nurses at a public safety net hospital about their perspectives on implementing screening for delirium and dementia. Interview topics were derived from a

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to identify the symptoms used to assess angina, determine how emergency nurses make triage decisions for potential acute coronary syndrome, and determine emergency nurses' initial actions.
METHODS: This was a cross-sectional, survey-based design. Emergency nurses were recruited through a posting on the Emergency Nurses Association website and through postcards. Measures included demographic data, assessment of angina, and the Nurses' Cardiac Triage Instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ordinal logistic regression.

Objectives: We aim to find out the prevalence, characteristics, and predictors of workplace violence (WPV) against current Chinese emergency department (ED) nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 20,136 ED nurses was conducted in 31 provinces in China between July and September 2019. Descriptive analyses were used to examine the prevalence and characteristics of WPV. Chi-square analysis and Binary logistic regression analysis were used to identify the predictors of WPV. Results: During the past 12 months, there are 79.39% of ED nurses exposed to any type of WPV, including 78.38% and 39.6

BACKGROUND: The intense working environment of the Emergency Department (ED) is exciting and rewarding; but is renowned for high staff turnover and burnout. The wellbeing and retention of the existing workforce is imperative. The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of early careers nurses in the ED; identify aspects of ED they enjoyed, the challenges and explore potential coping mechanisms used to mitigate negative situations.
METHODS: A qualitative design was used. Eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted with adult and paediatric emergency nurses who had worked in t

BACKGROUND: Acute pain is common among patients requiring assistance from prehospital emergency medical services (EMS). Nonetheless, the undertreatment of pain in this context remains a frequent phenomenon. Timely and effective analgesia is a crucial feature in emergency medicine. To ensure analgesia provision, prehospital paramedics and nurses can administer analgesics via standard operating protocols or under a physician's remote supervision. Information about such protocols in Italian EMS is lacking.
OBJECTIVE: Evaluation of the availability of nurse's standard analgesia protocols in Italy

(1) Background: Healthcare workplace violence has been a focused issue in the whole world. The rate of the occurrence is pretty high in every country. The emergency room is a high risk and high frequency place for violence to occur. Under the medical service demands from people, it is quite easy to bring about conflicts. This leads to serious physical and mental harm to nurses. When suffering from physical and mental injuries, resilience is a protective factor away from negative influence. It is rare to explore and study how the nurses' resilience ability, workplace violence and turnover inten

BACKGROUND-OBJECTIVE: In 2015 almost 2.9 million people in Germany received nursing care insurance benefits. More than 27% of those in need of long-term care lived in inpatient care facilities. Of the residents 6% included in the examination by the Medical Services of the Leading Association of Healthcare Insurances (MDS) had chronic wounds or bedsores requiring treatment. The aim of the study was to gain insights into care decisions and the research question was: what is the process of wound care in nursing homes?
METHODS: The study used a qualitative design. Based on four inpatient nursing

BACKGROUND: Emergency departments (EDs) are stressful workplaces. Limited research explores components ED staff find stressful and how they cope. The aim of this study is to describe ED staff perceptions of their working environment.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was undertaken in 2017 in a public, teaching hospital ED situated in an outer-metropolitan low socio-economic area. ED doctors and nurses completed surveys exploring workplace stressors (the ED stressors tool), coping strategies (Jalowiec Coping Scale), and perceptions of the working environment (Working Environment Scale-10).
