Several risk factors have been identified that appear to be consistently and strongly associated with the development of atopic dermatitis (AD): a family history of atopy, an inherited genetic predisposition, and active and passive exposure to tobacco smoke. Recent studies also have demonstrated that a simple intervention from birth-the daily application of an emollient moisturizer-seems to protect susceptible infants from the development of AD.

This study aimed to develop a prototype skincare product with bee venom, propolis, honey, beeswax, and royal jelly. The prototype formulation contained 0.1% bee venom, 0.3% propolis extract, 0.45% honey, and 1.0% royal jelly. The prototype body cream was analyzed for stability, antioxidant activity, dermatological response, and cytotoxicity. In addition, a panel test evaluated the prototype for the claims such as skin smoothness, feelings of nourishment, moisturizing, skin tone, brightness, and visibility of wrinkles. This is the English version of guidelines for the management of asteatosis 2021 in Japan. Asteatosis is a synonym of xerosis found in a wide range of diseases that induce dry skin through impaired functions of either water retention of the stratum corneum or skin covering with acid mantle. Patients with asteatosis may be accompanied by pruritus. Moisturizers are the first-line treatment for asteatosis and their adequate use must be recommended. The optimal treatment of atopic dermatitis requires regular medical supervision. The course of this chronic skin disease is influenced by multiple triggers which are relevant for the treatment. The mainstays of topical therapy include regular use of emollients coupled with antimicrobial substances, corticosteroids and immune modulators as required. Ultraviolet radiation and immunosuppressive regimens represent further options for the treatment of severe exacerbations and may lead to long term improvement. Data from experimental studies provide insight into possible future treatment methods.

Ponatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor used for chronic myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia, can cause rare cutaneous side effects. In this case, a 63-year-old woman developed a pityriasis rubra pilaris-like eruption 1 month after starting the drug. The skin reaction improved with dose reduction and recurred more mildly at a lower dose. Symptomatic relief was achieved with topical tretinoin, triamcinolone, and emollients. This case underscores the importance of managing dose-dependent skin reactions while maintaining cancer therapy.

A 31-year-old male who had been suffering from ichthyosis vulgaris developed hyperkeratosic lesions on the palms and soles and ungual alterations of both hands and feet. These lesions were resistant to topical corticosteroid and emollient cream treatments and were found to be caused by Trichophyton rubrum. Association of ichthyosis vulgaris and dermatophytosis--both very common disorders--is to our knowledge a very rare event.

An outbreak of hand dermatitis is reported amongst employees working on a new assembly line of an electronics factory. 24 out of 41 employees had signs of irritant contact dermatitis. The fingertips and the dorsal parts of the hands were especially affected. Mechanical factors in combination with zinc-chromium compounds from galvanised steel seemed to be responsible for the dermatitis and the dry skin. The use of an emollient solved the problem.

Eleven patients with chronic pityriasis lichenoides chronica were treated with topically applied bland emollient cream and minimally erthemogenic doses of UV radiation from fluorescent sunlamps. The conditions of all patients cleared completely in an average of 29 treatments, requiring an average UV dose of 388 millijoules/sq cm at clearance. Phototherapy provides a convenient effective outpatient therapy for pityriasis lichenoides chronica.

INTRODUCTION: Urea is an organic compound that has been used clinically for dermatological diseases for more than a century. Urea is a potent emollient and keratolytic agent, making urea an effective monotherapy for conditions associated with dry and scaly skin. A systematic review of the literature is needed to provide clinicians with evidence-based applications of urea in the treatment of dermatological diseases.
METHODS: A PubMed search was conducted using the term "urea" combined with "skin," "ichthyosis," "psoriasis," "xerosis," "emollient," "onychomycosis," "dermatitis," and "avulsion."

In this study, we have analysed the treatment traditions in a dermatological outpatient clinic, from a gender perspective. Eczema and psoriasis were of similar frequency in male and female patients, while a higher number of female patients had eczema of the hands.
